In and out. In and out. Dory felt her breathing synch with the tide of the ocean she loved so much. If she had been a Mer Soquili..it was a thought that drifted in, and left again as swiftly has it had come. She shut her eyes, inhaling the salted air and then turned away from the water, moving on heavy hooves up the beach.
Pain. Hearts pain. Her memory wasnt the best; that she readily admitted. But the emptiness left behind from her once lifemate leaving her remained. It troubled her because she knew that he had left, but her mind played tricks and she kept expecting to see him. She crested a dune, crossing from sand to stiffly waving grass in a few hoof-steps, and smiled as a sea-bird wheeled over head, calling a strident voice.
The thoughts of Swafi trickled away like sand through fingers and her bobbed tail flicked as she wandered in a vague direction towards the human Village..well where she believed it was at any rate!

 Vasu'Raj was busy trying to be lazy. The late part of the morning, had been spent with his father. He had filled his belly with apples from the harvest, then popped off to go take a nap.
He had made his way to the edge of the camp. It was away from most of the everyday noise of the tribe and the herd. Here he could hopefully find the silence needed to rest his head.
He flopped on the lush grass, listening to the calm of the wind. Closing his eyes, he enjoyed the day first. He was in no rush to sleep just yet. He would relax first, until his eyes grew heavy.

Dory hummed an idle tune to herself as she trotted along, her bobbed tail in full swing and the curls of her mane dancing around her neck. One would think that she and the mare that had stood in sad contemplation were two different Soquilis.
She stopped, glancing around and kicked the ground uncertainly. Was this the way to the Village? She chewed on her lip, twisting around as she looked in the distance. Thankfully for Dory, she hadnt wandered too far in the wrong direction and from here the tops of the Village teepees were visible. Her tail swished again and she was once more on her way, this time in the right direction.
'Just keep swimmin..' she hummed along and just as she was almost forgetting why she had set out for the two-leggers place she virtually tripped over the stallion who was lain on the grass.
'Oh!..' she peered closely at him.
'Did you fall down?'
Maybe he had..or maybe she had knocked him over and had forgotten it already. Her ears flicked as she tried to recall..

He felt himself being pulled into a light slumber. He took a deep breath and laid his head down on the ground. He would sleep until...
What tha heck?! His body jerked as something pushed into his side, and right over top of him in a clumsly fit of motion. His eyes shot open, looking for the bringer of such an assault on his naptime. He expected to find one of his siblings. Instead, his head twitched with suprise. It was a true blue colored mare, with short frippy hair.
He clambered to his feet and met eyes with the stranger. "Are you okay?" he responded to her question with one of his. "No, I didn't fall down, I was laying there, about to take a nap. I'm so sorry." he pleaded.

'Are you sure? It seems a funny place to lie down and sleep. It really does..' Dory stood quietly for a moment, looking around. Oh there was the Village. She was going there wasnt she? Why had she stopped here?
Dory looked down at the ground, and at the stallion sprawled at her feet.
'Oh my. Did you fall down?' she tilted her head quizzically at him.

Vasu nodded. "I'm sure."
His head slowly caught itself in a tilt as she broke off mid sentence, looking about her as if she was lost. When she asked him the repeated question, he raised an eyebrow, head still cocked to the one side.
"Uhh...no, I assure you I didn't fall down." He straightened his head with a quizzical look across his brow. "Is...everything okay?" He watched the mare with curiosity, scanning her face and her sunshine yellow hair.

Dory nodded, her freckled nose crinkling into a smile as she did so.
'I am perfectly well.' she said.
'I'm Dory..I didnt say that already did I?' she asked, a look of worry crossing her features like a small black cloud covering the sun. From the look on the stallions face she must have repeated herself already at some point.

He straigtened his head and smiled. "Good." He didn't think much of her asking twice at the moment. "Nope." he shook his head softly. "You didn't ask twice. I am Vasu'Raj." He tucked a hoove under in a bow, dropping his head at a straight angle. "Nice to meet you Dory."
He felt that something was different about this mare, but tried not to read to much into it. Everyone was weird in their own way after all.

'Vasu'Raj, Vasu'Raj..' she repeated the stallions name several times under her breath, trying to imprint it in her mind so she wouldnt look too foolish. She screwed her face up in concentration, then looked at him in surprise as he bowed and spoke her name.
'Wow! You know my name? I'm sure we've not met before. That's a really neat trick.' Dory nodded her head fervently.
'Can you guess my age as well?'

Vasu's mouth almost gapped at the mare. What kind of game was she playing? Or was she..?
"Um..." he pursed his lips together, carefully thinking of what to say. "Yes...I know your name since you gave it to me moments ago....Dory." He thought not to smile, but did it anyways.
He couldn't help but be curious about the odd mare in front of him. His head cocked to the side as he watched her face, waiting to see what she would do next.

'Really? I did?' Dory wrinkled her nose and sighed a little.
'I was afraid of that..I have a problem with my memory. I forget things that I've just been told, or things I've done..' she fell silent again.
'It's a real problem.' she made a half-smile, and looked around herself again. Then she looked back at Vasu'Raj. He looked really familiar..
'Almost! I almost forgot again.' she flicked her ears as she concentrated.
'You didn't fall down. You were napping..why right there?'

That explains a good bit. he thought in silence, almost speaking his thoughts. "Ooooh, okay." he smiled at her. "I imagine that is tuff, not being able to remember things."
He watched her as she seemed to almost forget again. "That's right, I'm Vasu'Raj, but call me Vasu, it might be easier to remember." he winked at her. "Yup, I was taking a nap. It's quieter out here, away from the village." he nodded.

'Who doesnt remember things?' Dory asked, her face a mask of puzzlement once more. Then she nodded;
'Oh Vasu! We were talking, and you were laying down.' she glanced away from him at the Village. Did she remember it being a noisy place? Well she'd already shown herself up completely to this stallion and so she decided to merely nod along.
'Oh yes, noisy there. Very noisy.' she flicked her little cropped tail, and peered at him.
'I like those patterns..'

He chuckled a light hearty laugh. It sure was odd the way she forgot stuff. He wasn't laughing at her of course, but the situation.
"Yes, Vasu." he assured. "Well, it's not that noisy, but it's still peaceful to be on my own." He actually kept to himself for the most part, incresingly less as of late. He had met a few people, and even took a visit to his loving mother.
"Patterns...?" he had a puzzled look all of his own. Your patterns you dolt. came the thought in his mind. "Oh! Yes! Thank you." he grinned.

'So are you going to nap in the grass all day?' she asked, her tilted to one side like a very large, blue and yellow dog. Her cropped tail gave a flick as well and she smiled at him.
'I know!' Dory said suddenly, as though she hadnt just asked him a question.
'We can race, do you like to run?' she reared a little, lifting her two front hooves about a foot from the ground before dropping down again.
'I'm built for speeeed.' she grinned, elongating the latter word.
