A cold blue shadow raced throughout the night, the moon shining down and causing his sleek form to almost glow. His spotted paws pushed through the slightly wet alleyways as he let the winds brush across his pelt. Occasionally, he crossed the street infront of blazing lights, but as before he had no concern for the humans or their machines. He merely looked forward to his freedom runs, enjoying the chances he got and knowing that every day could possibly be his last on the streets.
Finally slowing down, he jumped over a puddle and towards a dark alleyway. Tail wagging slowly, he moved close to a trashcan and nudged it with his nose. Nodding slightly, he stepped back and rammed into it, knocking it over and spilling the beautiful contents to his eyes.
"Perfect..."

Not far from where the scavenging dog was, another escapee (in his own right) lay, curled up and semi-dry on an old fire-escape. The rusty metal floor of the steps provided little comfort for the feline, but with a bit of ingenuity and skill the tom had managed to reel in one of the clothes drying lines and pull off a white shirt on which to sleep. Said long-sleeved shirt, once white and dry, now wet, covered in paw-prints and cat fur was quite a lovely mattress.
An ears twitched with slight irritation at the clambering sound below, then a nose twitched, enticed with the fresh scent of...what else? Warm, stinky garbage. Living on the streets, one was never a picky eater and the combination of sound and olfactory ticklings roused the oddly colored Manx from his rest. Stirring he couldn't help but be a little peeved at his early wake-up call though, and meowed out a complaint. "'Ey! Can't let a cat sleep, can you?"

Blue eyes darted away from their treasure at the sound of another, and his nose lifted to follow the sounds. Suddenly, over the smell of garbage which was quite potent, he caught the sent of a cat. Grinning, he realized just what he was being chastised about, and couldn't help but shift closer.
Barking loudly upon sight of the white battered shirt, he hoped that he scared the feline, always enjoying the idea of messing with the creatures. Snorting as soon as he finished, he turned back and rummaged through the cans, working to make extra noise just to annoying the orange feline.

Snorting and wrinkling up his nose as the dog did exactly the opposite of what he wanted, the cat draped one paw over his head in an attempt to cover his ears and another resting under his chin. But this didn't work so well as the noises continued. Why, Mowgli was beginning to think that this mutt was doing it on purpose! Quite rude on that dog's part.
A small growl rumbled in the cat's throat as he stood, fur bristling irritatedly on the back of his neck. Now, the tom never had a real beef with dogs, heck, he'd been on kind terms with a couple himself. But this one was just a jerk.
Getting an idea, the tom-cat grasped the dirty shirt in his teeth and padded towards the edge of the fire-escape; with a strong flick of his head the article of clothing flew off of the railing and drifted down towards the aggravating canine. Hopefully it'd hit him.

The clothing fell right on the edge of his nose, covering the cold part a moment before Coty found himself snorting. Looking up, he finally caught sight of the feline, and tilted his head with perked ears.
"What's got you all ruffled up, félin?" As if it hadn't occurred to him that he was the cause of the cat's bane. And to prove that point, he moved his paw to fling the shirt away, and simply went back to digging through the trash. Finally, after seeming ages, he pulled out a chicken wing bone with a bit of meat left on it, and smirked with triumph.
"Au revoir, kitty cat, hopefully you wont get too frazzled, or you'll find your lives wearing thin." Mock filled his voice as his eyes challenged the cat, though the wag of his tail did show a bit of fun in the game. To him, that's all it was, simply a game, no harm no foul.

Padding down the fire-escape, the tom found the fact that his aim wasn't as accurate as he believed it was, for it only caught the nose of the overly-noisy dog.
"Either you are deaf or very arrogant, dog." Mowgli replied coolly, crouching as he leaped from the low point of the fire-escape to one of the aluminum cans soundlessly, the Manx settling onto his haunches as he eyed the chicken wing the dog had in his possession. "Waking one from his sleep."

"I digress-" The small dog said with a bit of a muffle, the food swinging as he moved his mouth, "I feel I am neither...just one enjoying the life that is given to me...I hope I have not offended you." He added the last part in a bit of a haste, eying the feline up close and offering a lopsided smile.
"You see, félin, I do enjoy a good game now and than, and can find myself getting carried away, but on a night like this, one mustn't spend all his time sleeping, do you agree? It is only the beginning of a time to remember."
Finishing up his speech, he took a chomp into the meat, spitting out the bone as he moved to his belly and tried to tear apart as much as he could. Sloppy, but he didn't mind, it came with a good goal in the end.

The cat listened to the mutt's reasoning, and found it, strangely, quite persuading. After all, he himself had spent most of the day asleep. Why waste the night, when there were things to see and tail to chase?
"What's your name, dog?" The tom inquired suddenly, sitting calmly atop the damp can.

"Coty," He said quickly, glancing back up at where the cat sat atop the cans. He found himself blinking slightly a moment before yawning, merely because as soon as he ate he felt sleepy.
"Tell me, what do you do when you stay up?" Tilting his head, he blinked again before shaking his head, trying to get all the drowsy feeling from his eyes, and settling upon his haunches. And there, he waited patiently, tail wagging a smile crossing his maw.

"Mowgli." He replied, acknowledging himself with a soft nod as he looked at the dog's strange pelt. Of course, he himself had no room to talk but even so, intelligent blue eyes traced over his new-found companion's coat, following each spot and stripe that traveled on him.
"Myself?" The cat raised an eyebrow at the odd question, drawing his attention from the colors of the coat to the dog itself who wore them. "Mostly the normal things, eat, sleep, run....flirt." The last word the tom said was almost purred, and though it showed no sleazy intent, more of a gentlemanly pride in it. And it was true, he was quite proud of his....services to the opposite gender.

Nodding at the name, Coty took it to his memory, before he could lose it of course. Finding himself antsy, he stood up again and let his tongue loll out of his mouth. However, the flirt caught his attention again, and he let out a bark of a laugh.
"You like to flirt as well? It seems we have more in common than I first assumed...than again...I am a bit picky of my flirtations - you seem like the type that...gets the ladies." A roguish grin spread across his maw as he waited, brows raised and pondering if his assumption was correct. From the satisfied look and tone the male feline took, he had quite the hunch.

At an attempt to keep his calm and cool facade afloat for longer than a second at this question, the tom's lips twitched, face tautening as he barely kept back a matching grin to the canine's. Though, as soon as Mowgli opened his mouth, the spell was broken and a toothy smile faced Coty. An eyebrow perked in a mock suggestive glance, before he replied with a purred answer. "You're quite on your assumptions tonight, dog."
Despite the knowing of the dog's name, he preferred the former. It was a habit, no, more of a trademark, all queens were addressed normally as Kitten, and dogs as, well, dogs. Made it much easier for him, formality wasn't his thing. "And what about yourself? Selective you say?"

Watching with wonder at the crack in the feline's facade, he felt that he was getting to know Mowgli more considering their rocky start. Maybe sooner or later they would be friends, but really Coty only could see them as casual acquaintances, despite how much he was about to share.
"I usually am not this open, but when in the company of those with similar personalities as I, I just can't help myself," He said with a bit of a chuckle, "You see...I am selective now that I've found...my perfect match. Some may call it love, but I doubt this feeling is so. She teases and so shall I...quite a fun game every time we run across each other. She has yet to lose my interest, so...I've turned away from all others..." Flapping his tail, he closed his eyes and pictured the female who had caught his interest, a challenge indeed she had become.

The cat himself saw them as no other way at the moment, just passerby drawn into a chance conversation. He was sure it wasn't uncommon to have another with similar interests, even if they were an entirely different species.
Purring with a grin turning to something of mild amusement and slight compassion. He too had gone down that road, he could he have not? So many felines there were certainly more than one who would cast his glance to fall a certain way, different from the rest. The smile only widened further as the dog's tail began to wag, he was completely enthralled with this femme, he could tell. Had he been into inter-species relationships, he would certainly have asked for specifics.
"I feel for you, dog. Quite a few have caught me the same. Stay with this female as long as you can, without forcing yourself on her of course. But don't get too attached, they always managed to wriggle away.." The last few words were spoken with a slight hint of a dreamy sadness, though it was hard to catch for most.

Nodding at the useful, yet quite a bit strange, advice, Coty found really no response to it, not wanting to cross the boundaries of their relationship. That, and he didn't really feel like getting to in depth on the topic. So instead, he decided to think back and suddenly realized something.
"Oh no...Lils..." Groaning, he was sure the female would realize he was gone, and he simply shook his head, "As much as I enjoy her companionship, she does tend to get a bit angry...but you know how they are...women." Chuckling at that, he found the joke quite humorous despite his clear attempt at stalling the inevitable. A tongue lashing from his female companion.
