I've been on Gaia for two years, and the same thing just keeps popping up over again in the Barton role-playing threads. And when something relatively "unique" pops up, it's like someone smacked it and said "REJECTED!!".
*le sigh*
So what do you guys think?

Agree. Most of the Roleplay threads that have anything new are generally shunned. What I would do, it make lots of RP friends and join an impromptu RP group. That way, you could make an RP for them and they'd join cause you're friends and all.

:O
This sounds like the fire that Prometheus was punished for. Imagine how the world might tip if we let that one out. xD
Still, that's a good suggestion.

Well I'm kind of new around here but from what I've seen even if a nice rp pops up and people do join it quickly deviates from the original plot, going down the drain. sad Or it just dies quickly because people loose interest and just stop posting. So yeah, maybe if a couple of good rp-ers stick together maybe they could possibly keep a good story going.

I know. When a good rp dies, it makes me sad in the pants.

exclaim Dude, I just thought of something!! We could have a banner with that little slogan up thar!...or maybe some signature-thingy.

"Every time a good role-play dies, it makes _(insert user name)_ sad in the pants. Save the role-plays!"

Just a crazy thought.

I like the beginning of the slogan but you need to work on the rest. wink
So does anyone have an idea for a good rp? 'cause I'm willing to join one. smile

Totally agree with all of you, except for the sad in the pants crap. I make unique role plays that always die on the second or third day because everyone else doesn't give a s**t and would rather got to a role play labeled "boys trapped in mansion with vampire girls" or "forest rp". That's why I try and get together a few one-on-one's going, but they always die within a week or so because the other person doesn't live up to their skills or I just become really bored when it's just two people. Well anyway, Cly, I have a role play going, The Resistance. It's not too far down the list but we only have one person, and only my post, so yeah it's new.

Oh, and how about,"Every time a good role-play dies, God burns down a convent."

Sometimes when an RP dies it truly is a mystery; but most times, I feel that people do not give the GM enough credit/responsibility for whether or not their RP succeeds. Yes, it can be harder to recruit for a more advanced or unique RP. However, that does not make it impossible. It's just that most GMs do not seem willing or able to devote that kind of time to the RP. For instance, the RP should never go off track like one person mentioned, not if the GM is still actively there. And don't get me wrong, I understand if a GM decides that the RP is only worth so much effort, and lets an RP die. What I don't understand is people getting all wistful about it, like there is a rare and magic item to be found on Gaia that will attract good players without the GM's efforts.

I love to rp. Yet it's not only the creator that needs to put in hardwork. Those who decide to join need to put in as much effort. Then again I've had situations where folks are intimidated by how much I write for a character description or entrance. I've actually gotten a few pms on that subject sweatdrop But by the same token I have also received compliments on the rps that I have created. I have only made 3 in this guild. 1 has already closed in the intermediate section and I have 2 running in this section. I must say they are doing surprisingly well. But the point is that there should definetely be more rps different from whats been done and if an rp's die not only do creators deserve the blame but those who join as well.

I agree completely...I'm rather bored with a lot of the rp's...but then again I don't like to complain because I have a hard time coming up with ideas...

Something I've noticed about some of the Rps is how the interest wanes as the Rp falls further down the first page list, and if by some horrible chance the Rp goes to the second page the Rp is almost considered dead. I do have to point my own finger back at myself though. I’ve watched a Rp fall and then go to the second page and think, well that’s that.

Seems the higher up on the list the better off they do. Take the three big guys at the very top. Feretris (which I love), Alvirad, and Mental. I know the last two have gone silent in the last few months but they still get interested people posting asking what’s going on. If those Rps had been on the normal front page, or in any of the other Rp areas they would be long lost in the tidal rift of Rps. That said, I have nothing against the three up there. The time and dedication in them is apparent and reflects why they are there, but it does make me wonder what would happen if say, you stuck a level 2 Rp up like that. How popular it would get?

Oh by the way, I have brought back my Xombie World Rp for one last go. I had a renewed interest and am hopeful. Please check it out.

Mental and Alivard have escuses, from what I've heard there are lives and deaths in the way of the GMs being involved, though the players seem to have mostly given up, but they're replaceable.

I've never really bothered to look at those. To me, once an RP has at least 50 posts (and frequently even less than that), there are too many people for me to want to join. I suppose it just imtimidates me.

I've created several RPs, most of them in this guild. Both of the ones outside of the guild are probably about dead, and one of them didn't even start. But I feel awkward asking people to join, and don't see it as my place. I know that some other people feel that way too, and that's why some RP makers (what are they called, GMs?) don't go off and recruit people.

And some genres of RPs seem to do better than others. Particularly in the Beginners section. There are alot of those, and some of them seem to last a long time. But as it goes higher up, people appear to loose interest quicker. But that's just what it looks like to me. I could be wrong.

I'm sorry, I have a bad habit of rambling.

Edit: Maybe some people don't join more original RPs, because they aren't sure how it's going to turn out? Change, and new things are intimidating sometimes, so they would rather stick with what they are familiar with than risk trying something differant that they aren't sure will work anyways.

xD Good point. It's like, all rps are the same = Oooh, war, school, fantasy, n love xD Well, I can't complain cuz I liek those things but theyre not very original xD In my opinion, the actual original n fresh ones are like, intermediate or advanced so no one usually reads em >.<
