Like all good stories, this one starts with ‘Once upon a time’…
Once upon a time there was a girl called Elenyae who was known to her bestest and closest as simply ‘Elly’. Elly had always wanted to follow in the footsteps of her older sister and become an artist. However, due to the severe lack of natural talent, this dream was very quickly squashed by this same sister who was very malicious. Heartbroken, Elly separated herself from the artistic world, only venturing near every so often to offer up a humble piece of poetry or prose. Nonetheless, Elly’s life was wonderful. She excelled academically and even dabbled in the musical region of the world of art. But when Elly reached her 16th year, she realized that something was missing from her life; but she could not work out what it was. Confused, she went out to the fields to puzzle out this mystery. And that was where a fairy found her.
“Human, why do you look so distressed?” the fairy lilted, hovering in front of Elly.
Elly wondered how to answer her, not so sure exactly WHY she was so confused. “I…I feel like there’s something missing,” she finally blurted out.
The fairy giggled. “Missing? What kind of missing?”
“Like there’s something that’s, you know…missing!” replied Elly, somewhat resentful of the fairy’s lackadaisical attitude towards her plight. “I have money, I have clothes, I have everything! but I still feel as though there’s more to life!”
The fairy finally seemed to grasp the solemnity of the situation. “Maybe it’s just a phase,” she suggested.
“It’s nota phase,” retorted Elly, “it’s serious!”
The fairy continued to ponder the problem. “Maybe you should paint or draw something. That always makes me feel better.”
Paint? Paint!! That was it! Elly could hardly contain her burst of joy. That was what had been missing from her life. Her childhood dream had reignited inside of her and she wanted to created glorious artwork more than ever.
So she set out on a quest, to strive until she was no longer capable to improve her artistic capabilities. So one day, in the process of this quest, she opened up a stall in the marketplace. It was a simple stall that didn’t ask for any money, just for willing models who would stay awhile to allow her to sketch them and gift them with portraits of themselves. But as the days drew on, her artistic skills improved and improved and she looked forward to the day where her childhood dream would be realized.
