The school was a perfect place for a safe, fun, trick-or-treating area, and the teachers had decided that it would be a good way to have all of the kids of various ages meet and get to know each other. That's why they had set up booths in some of the classrooms, each dressed in Halloween costumes and equipped with buckets of candy to hand out.
Tyler and Shade had joined up in the gym, setting up a fun and alllllmost scary haunted house made from four-by-fours and plywood, with a crickety looking set of stairs and a door that appeared to be falling off the hinges.
Tyler was the one that would open the door, dressed like Frankenstein, complete with bolts in his neck and thick soled shoes that made him seem taller. His skin was painted green, as well.
Shade, on the other hand, was hiding in the house, waiting to scare people with fake ghosts and recorded horror soundtracks.

Peeking around the door to the gym's interior, Delilah hesitated and bit her lip. Her hands closed on the doorframe, further evidence of her nerves. Her mother had shooed her away from the fortune telling booth and told her to go play. Delilah had no idea where or what she was supposed to play at and she couldn't seem to find any of her friends around.
On top of that, she was wearing clothing that was most definitely not hers. Her mind shifting to that topic, she removed her grip from the doorframe and stepped back to run her hands down the front of her sheer, billowy trousers. She wiggled her toes experimentally in her golden shoes and watched with vague amusement as the curled tips reacted correspondingly. The outfit was not hers but she agreed with her Mommy; Arabian princesses had lovely clothing.

"Father--" Antony started out as he headed for the door of the gym. He almost didn't notice the little girl standing in front of him, barely avoiding running into her. "Oh! Delilah!" he said as he realized who she was. "Are you going through the haunted house?"
It was his duty as a gentleman to accompany her if that was the case.

She blinked wide eyes at him and then smiled shyly. "I don't know," she answered with her usual formal quietness. "I've never been in one. Are they nice?"

"I believe they're supposed to be scary," he said, frowning in thought. "But I don't think I've ever done my father do something scary in my entire life, so I'm sure it'll be fine."
Then he looked down, his eyes widening at her clothing and a slight flush crossing his cheeks. "You look very ah... pretty," he said, still blushing.

"Oh." Obligingly, Delilah sank into a makeshift curtsey that her her mother had shown her before they left home, her little hands holding the edges of her loose pants and ducking down a bit. "Thank you. I'm an Arabian Princess, Mommy says." Then she straightened and folded her hands in front of her, hiding the bare few inches of her stomach. "You look very handsome."

"Thank you," he said, returning the curtsy with a bow. "Shall we?" he said, offering her his arm and nodding to the house in the middle of the gym.

"If you think it will be okay," she agreed. Then, always willing, Delilah looped her arm through Antony's and allowed him to lead the way. As they went, she looked around with wide eyes. "It's kind of dark in here."

"Halloween is a silly holiday," he said with an innocent smile. "It's supposed to scare people, so they made it dark in here."
He led her slowly up the creaking stairs. The door in front of them opened and a tall, dangerous green man stood in front of them. He had bolts in his neck and wore a black suit. He took a step back, holding the door open for them.

Instead of gasping and stepping back like one would expect, Delilah instead just looked up at the extremely tall man and blinked. She considered him for a few moments, taking in the bolts, the coloring, the wardrobe choice. Then she smiled crookedly. "Hello," she said. "Antony wants to show me your house please."

The man nodded, stepping back into the shadows and motioning them inside. Antony didn't say a word, just walked in, looking around.
They were facing a staircase that went up, obviously meaning they should climb it.

Delilah still clearly was leaving the decision making up to Antony and she contented herself with examining the bits she could newly see since entering. The faint light made her copious amounts of jewelry glitter golden and she tinkled faintly when walking. Seeing the staircase, she glanced at Antony for direction.

"Something tells me that the tall fellow isn't much for conversation," Antony said dryly as he started up the stairs. It was only wide enough for them to go one at a time. And the higher they went, the darker it seemed to get.

Reflexively, Delilah kept a tight hold of Antony's hand even as she padded up behind him awkwardly. The narrowness made it hard to keep his hand in hers but she was determined. Not that she was frightened, no. She just knew her sense of direction was pitiful and trusted Antony to get her in and out safely.

He reached the top, looking around the small room they were in. In front of them there was a picture of a creepy old man with eyes that seemed to stare at them.
A howl shrieked through the building.
