A fast-paced song pumped out of the wireless headphones directly into his ears. The lone teenager sitting in the corner of the cafe had been there for at least thirty minutes already, taking slow sips at his constantly-cooling coffee. He'd been staring out the window blankly since the moment he had sat down. His eyes had been emptily looking outside for what seemed to an eternity. He was silent and almost completely unresponsive, though no one seemed to want to bother him.
Katsuo listened quietly to his music in his corner of the cafe. His commoner clothes made him fit in nicely enough with the rest of the customers there that no one really noticed him. At least until the people working behind the counter saw that he hadn't left yet. However, even then he didn't warrant much attention. Many of the cafe's regulars stayed there for the longest time, only buying one or two coffees. At least this kid was being quiet and on his best behavior.
He kept the volume of his music down so that only those sitting incredibly close to him could hear it.

"It's great coffee, I tell ya." Mifuyu nearly sang as she dragged Chihaya into the cafe. Quite a reversal of roles, really, as it was usually the other way around, with the hyperactive Chiya pulling Micchan around. "You'll like it, I'm sure! Plus the decor is really nice and the place is quiet. "
...And that was how she was there, helping Mifuyu revise for her University entrance exams. The coffee was good, but she was bored to bits. Leaving Mifuyu behind and running off to somewhere more exciting was becoming more and more lucrative as she watched her servant c** friend reading the same notes over and over again, her brows furrowed in concentration, and totally ignoring the person she had dragged over for 'help'. But that was not an option. She owed the older girl a lot, after all.
Her bored eyes wandered across the cafe. It was a normal place, with normal commoner people enjoying their normal drinks. But there was one person who caught her eye; even from the back he was quite obviously one of her classmates(it was that blue-grey hair!). But that wasn't what intrigued her. It was the fact that he was sitting there, stoned like a statue, for nearly half an hour now. I wonder what he's doing, she wondered. Well, the best way to find out would be to ask.
She got her rather numb behind off the chair and went over. Waving a hand in front of his face, she chirped, "Hello!" Not too loudly, though.

Katsuo hadn't noticed the two girls as he'd entered, let alone after he had sat down. The two girls had eluded his notice for the entire time that he'd been there. The people passing right in front of him while going past the window didn't even seem to warrant his attention. For once, he was completely quiet and pensive. The school year was almost over now, and although he was doing relatively well, he could do better. And his parents probably wouldn't be as lenient next year, when he had had enough time to adjust to the new school.
The boy sighed to himself occasionally when his thoughts hit the more depressing ones. Next year would be harder -had he really formed enough connections in the school so that he would be able to succeed when classes and standards rose? He took another sip of his coffee and shook his head. He couldn't give up now. He'd just have to adapt to each and every challenge that came.
His closer friends still had no clue how he managed to keep his grades up at all. They never once saw him working during school -and he made sure of that. Even now, the coffee shop was a place where his classmates might see him working, so he had purposely not brought any work. Not to mention it was a nice place to relax and think, unlike home.
The sudden hello had been surprising, and it was enough to smack him out of his daze. "Huh? Oh, hello." Did he know her...? Maybe they had met one day, and he'd just forgotten.

Mifuyu was still totally absorbed in her work. Good. She hadn't so much as lifted her head from the set of notes she was slaving through.
She smiled widely at the boy. "Hello. You looked familiar and I wanted to get away from the boredom to watching my friend study." She laughed guiltily. Did she even remember his name? She wasn't good at remembering names. They hadn't so much as held a decent conversation before, so she really couldn't recall. "Who are you again?" She paused. "Wait, don't answer. Chihaya pondered for a good while before coming to a realisation. "Katsuo...Arata-san." Yup. "You're in the same class as me, yeah."

Katsuo peeked around the girl in front of him to look where she had come from. Apparently she had left the girl at the table behind her alone so that she could work.
He returned her large smile with a small, polite one of his own. "I'm glad that you came over here, miss." He laughed awkwardly with her. Maybe he had passed her in the halls one day and had neglected to remember. "Yeah, you got it! Now, let me try with your name." He had to think for a few moments to figure it out. "Chihiya... Takanashi-san, right?" He grinned. Usually, he wasn't the best at remembering names of people he didn't really know. At least this time he'd managed to get her name right. "Oh, right, I forgot. Well, how are you today, Chihiya-san? Other than bored."

"Chihaya," The girl corrected the boy. "Chiya will do, nigh nobody calls me by anything other than that." It was true. The only exceptions were the servants she weren't close to, teachers, and her father. Her father called her CHI. Yes. She didn't like the nickname one bit, and so refrained from mentioning it to anyone. Ever. "I'm glad you remembered most of my name, though!" She smiled warmly, genuinely please. She was sure that during the hurricane of a year, those she'd barely spoken to(Which was, a lot.) wouldn't be able to even remember her surname, let alone her first name.
"Just bored, Nothing more, nothing less." She sighed, obviously miffed, and sat herself down on the chair opposite her classmate. "I was dragged here. How about you?"

"Hey, I was close." He laughed, awkwardly rubbing his arm with his hand. "Sorry, though. I think I'll stick with Chiya. It's definitely easier to remember." He himself didn't have a specific nickname. Not one that people would say to his face, anyway. The only thing close to a 'nickname' would be the suffixes that people added to his first name. "It's pretty good, considering I've probably only heard your name a few times." And paid attention even less, he thought to himself.
"Sounds exciting." He said with obvious sarcasm. His eyes watched her all the way to the seat. "Me? I... Just came here for some quiet. I wanted to sit and think, I guess. And since I've done that, I'm done for the day."

"That's...true. But it wasn't as if I minded anyway. Do you have any nicknames?" She thought for a moment, trying to think up of one that the boy might have. "Like... Tsu?" It sounded pretty good. But she wasn't going to call him that. It was very obviously rude.
"You think?" She half laughed, half sighed. It wasn't like she would be any help to her friend anyway. "That aside, was I disturbing you? At all?" She'd decide to talk to him just because she knew of him. It was completely impromptu and she hadn't even bothered to stop and think whether she was disturbing him at all. "If I was, I'm very sorry." She bowed a her head apologetically, and forgetting that the table was rather high, hit her forehead on the surface. She winced and looked up at the boy with a sheepish sort of smile. "...oops."

"I have one nickname. But luckily, no one really calls me by it. Except my mother." She knew that it annoyed him to no end, yet she had never thought of calling him anything other than that. Except when she was really, really mad. Maybe she'd made it a habit. She'd called him 'Tsu' for as long as he could remember. By this point, he was used to the name, even though he still hated it. "Yeah, that's what she calls me." He sighed.
His eyes wandered to the girl sitting at the table. She was still working. "Must be hard work, whatever it is." He himself wouldn't go to such a public place to work. Someone might see him. "You were." He said bluntly. "But it doesn't matter. I don't mind." In all honesty, she'd made his afternoon slightly more interesting than what he'd had planned. "Yikes, that looked like it hurt. Are you okay?" He hoped silently that she wasn't as prone to hurting herself as Mitsuko was.
