Slumber had taken the stallion. While Shai had gone out, he had seized the opportunity to catch up on some mildly needed sleep.
He had a few excursions recently, even meeting up with a Kalona and a mare he sorely missed. His daughter.
But now that Naina had grown, she had set off in her own right. He had hated that the children must leave, but he felt sure he would hate it even more, had the children stayed with the families of which they were born.
He had been busy, and very much so. After coming to live with the mare who had so secretly stolen his heart, he had set off in hopes of learning the forest, as he wasnt much used to forests. His type was more rocky, more caves and dark holes.
But this forest offered alot of which the caves didnt. Warmth.
But he felt sure that the warmth came from the love in his heart for Shai, who had so kindly let the stallion live amongst her.
He wasnt sure if she liked him at all. Being friends meant something, and he knew he was that, or he wouldnt be living where he was at the moment.
But he truly adored the mare. After his last affair had ended so briefly and so violently, he had decided he was no longer going to pursue the unwanted attention. If the mare liked him, then she would have to let him know before he tried anything. He wasnt going to give his heart again, and have it be so shattered into pieces of unrecognizable images.
He had told Naina of Shaitani. He had told her everything. He knew she would never see Shai, unless he had indeed been around to introduce the two. So he had told her of his hearts wish, and he was sure Naina had brushed it off like she so formally did.
She cared not, about hearing of the fancies of her father. She had always been that way. She had been raised in the mindset of, you want it? Go get it. And didnt have the time to listen to prattle that meant nothing to her, if her father couldnt do what he had raised her to do.
She had no sympathy for him. And given the same situation? He would have no sympathy for her.
He knew it. She knew it.
But as he dreamt now, Shai was dancing in his mind, as always. Be he asleep, or very much awake.

The mocha-toned mare smiled softly to herself as she trotted back from the unintentional meeting with the younger mare. Sure, unintentional, but it had not been altogether unpleasant. After all, what mare didn’t like to learn that she had inspired sparks in the heart of stallion? It had certainly put a glimmer in her own eyes, a warm smile on her own maw and she was sure that if Naina hadn’t of mentioned it then perhaps her mind would not be thinking the thoughts it was at this particular moment in time.
Sure, she adored Jean-Claude, and even admitted to liking him a little more than in a friendly manner, but before she had thought it simply an innocent little crush. Talking to Naina had proved to her what she had always expected of herself – she never really committed to anything unless there were strong emotions behind the actions. She had come to realize, in a manner perhaps not quite like she would hav assumed, that she let Jean-Claude stay with her because she found in him something she had not seen in any other stallion – someone worthy to be called a mate.
She sauntered into the clearing that she had claimed so long ago as her home amongst the vegetation, blue orbs instantly searching for the tan hide of the male that had come to be her companion over the last few weeks. With a smile, she saw him, lazing comfortably off to one side – he really was rather adorable when he slept. Well, as long as you didn’t get a flash of those fangs, for they could honestly ruin that whole ‘innocent’ image. Not that she minded them, really, she was just of the opinion that it was probably harder to look kind or innocent with those things – at least, to everyone else.
“Wake up, Jean-Claude,” came that lilting voice, just shy of a purr on the tongue. She moved over towards him and slowly leaned down to give his ear a gentle n**, her maw brushing against his mass of onyx curls. She did adore those, though she could not say why. Perhaps it was for the simple fact that she herself lacked in such length of mane.

Jean was still dreaming when the mare that he had been dreaming of, became reality. He felt her touch and pull his ear, and he felt her brush against his neck. It made him shudder a bit, as he had not had that kind of attention in much too long.
Dreamily opening his sapphire orbs, he gazed up at the mocha pelted mare and smiled, a smile so wide, his fangs now showed.
He didnt care that they showed though.. Because his fangs were something that made him, him.
"Good morning, ma petite."
He whispered huskily, throaty.
Ah, he had forgotten such feelings,but now they awoke and he felt his muscles stir.
Shaking his head gently, as to not hit Shai with any of his curls, he smiled again.
"How are you?"
He could see something different about her eyes. Her smile. It was warm, happy, and he hadnt seen that precise gaze yet.
It made him smile as he stood, stretching out his long pale legs.
[Dont worry bout it. I know the feeling. Oh, btw, when my scanner starts working, I'll show you what I drew for you. Its Shai and Jean, and its called Firefly Seduction, sooo.. LOL]

She smiled and took a step back simply to let him rise, her eyes lingering on him in a considering way for a just a few moments. She really hadn’t thought too much about the relationship she was developing with Jean-Claude until his daughter brought it out into the open, and now the thoughts of the actual feelings were plaguing her mind. She could see herself with Jean-Claude, just as he apparently could see himself with her. The thought made her smile wider, and she simply shook her head in a slightly mock of his own, although all it did was send her short little mane wavering slightly. Well, if she could work him up to telling her himself, she’d believe those apparent feelings.
“Did you sleep well, monsieur?” she asked him, that lilting voice adding richness to the foreign word. Of course, it was nothing compared to the true language and she didn’t know any other words, but he seemed to appreciate the word at times and it had become as much a pet name as the ‘ma petite’ that he used for her.
“I’m alright, I just got back from taking a little walk through the forest, though,” she said with a small smirk, one eyebrow lifting in that manner that suggested she had a secret – or something she wanted to tease him with. She simply let her smirk fade into a rather amusing smile and moved closer to him, standing closer than most friends would, but not quite in his personal space. “I met someone very interesting while I was out.” Oh, but she did like to tease him.

Jean smiled at her use of his native tongue. It reminded him of how lovely her voice was, even in a language she did not know.
Smiling, he watched as she walked closer to him, raising his own eyebrow at her remark. His mind swam. He didnt know too many Soquilis.. so the thought of her meeting someone he knew never crossed his mind.
He was always usually worried about the ghosts of his past that he wanted to be sure they stayed in the past. It was only right.
"Oui, I slept rather peacefully in fact. How was your walk?"
He closed the space of personal use with his own body as he stepped close to her. His look wasnt exactly a 'friendly look', but it was even less of a lusty look. It was amusement written on his features.
"You did? Well, ma petite, might I ask who you met?"

Shaitani stood there for a moment, close to him, peering up at him from her lower vantage point. Her deep blue eyes stared into his own, unspeaking for the time being. Outwardly, she appeared quite calm, but on the inside she was writhing. She hadn’t ever been quite this close to him and he was definitely pushing physical boundaries at this point. She couldn’t, however, say that it was unwelcome or unwanted. She simply smiled however, kindly, rather devilishly, and turned away from him.
Slowly, she sauntered towards the watering hole, gathering her thoughts as she leaned down to take a good drink of water. She took her time, drinking deeply, for the more silence she had the more time she had to recover from what he had just done – though he would not be able to detect how she felt from outward appearance. She brought her head up, glancing at him over her shoulder, and a soft smirk curled across her maw.
“Naina,” she said with a devilish gleam in the depths of her eyes, “it was quite the interesting conversation – a shame I haven’t met her before now.” She really did love to tease him – and she loved to see how he would react, for he was at the best of times unpredictable. She loved every minute of that.

Jean smiled, listening to her speak and watching her walk. Why, she had met Naina? Why, splendid-- Wait. Did she just say that she had met Naina?
His eyes only widened slightly, and his look of surprise was almost hidden.
"Naina, as in.. My Naina?" He asked, coming closer to her, shivering at the thought of her being so close to him only moments ago. He didnt know how she felt about that, but he knew that he had enjoyed it most definately.
"What could you and she possibly have to speak about on such random notice?"
He asked, narrowing an eyebrow and catching her blue orbs with his own.

“Yes, what other Naina lives in the woods?” she said with that devilish smile perfectly in place. She glanced up to him with the faintest glimmer of a smirk, one corner of her maw curling up. She lifted an eyebrow, laughing softly, “why, don’t you want me to talk to your daughter? She really is sweet, even if she does try a little too hard to get to what she wants to know.” She smiled, glancing down at the dim reflection of herself in a pool. She really had liked Naina, actually, which she couldn’t say for a lot of the females she encountered.
“Oh, don’t call it random,” she purred out as she glanced back up at him, letting her eyes voluntarily lock onto his own. He did have such beautiful eyes, didn’t he? “After all, with both of us living here in the forest, we were bound to run into each other at some point.” She smiled, leaning into give his ear a little n**, whispering as she spoke next, “we talked about you, what else?”

His stomach seized hold of his heart, and seemed to keep the hold as he heard that they had spoken of him. He had told Naina everything, in the mindset that the odds were he would never have the two meet when he was not present.
His stomach in knots, he spoke softly. Husky almost.
"Talked of me? Surely you had more exciting topics of which to discuss."
He dug, trying to get to what was said.
Aye, he knew Naina to be very stubborn. Very persistent. He had always been proud of that, but if he caught the little riddle playing its way around Shai's words right, it had been something that Naina had been trying to pull outta Shai. Information perhaps?
And what kind of information would a nosy daughter need that involved her father and the mare of her fathers heart.
"And what was it she tried to get out of you, Shai?"

“What else would we talk about, Jean-Claude? We were two mares that have never met and the easiest thing to discuss was the one thing we knew we had in common,” she said with a little smirk, glancing up at his eyes with the most innocent look she could muster. In truth, the look fell quite short of ‘innocent’ and ended up looking more like she was just hiding something and meant that to be known. “Besides, she wanted to make sure I was taking good care of you, and she thanked me for taking you in,” oh, she said it teasingly, which was the first clue that Naina had been much sweeter and genuine about it.
She frowned at his next words, disappointed that he had figured out her wording so quickly. Well, she did adore that in him, the fact that he so easily foiled her most of the time – it did mean that she didn’t get to tease him very long, however. As she thought about telling him the truth, she felt her own stomach wrench and her heart drop down into it like it was made out of lead. Well, they had to have this talk sooner or later, right? Better that she choose when to have than be forced to do it when she didn’t to.
“About our relationship,” she said quietly, turning her eyes down from him and instead looking at her own sapphire-toned hooves. She swallowed, head tilted to the side as she studied those bits of blue in silence for a few moments, obviously working herself up to talk more. “And she wanted to know what my feelings were for you, because I think she’s worried you might get your heart broken,” she whispered, still not looking back up at him. This was obviously difficult for her.

Oh she did love to tease him. She loved to press his good buttons. The buttons that bordered on curious and just plain anxious to know the news.
These riddles were somewhat confusing, but he finally was on the right path for them in his mind.
"So you and my daughter, spoke of me, because I was all that came up?"
He grinned.
"How did you know it was my Naina?"
He asked, knowing full well that Naina did very much look like him. But in the ways she looked like him, she also was very different as well. It would be a toss of a coin whether she had been his Naina or not, and Shai wouldnt have known right off the bat.. Right?
Which meant that Naina had used the information he had given her, to spot the mare of his heart.
"Our relationship?" He asked, glancing at her with sapphire eyes, but noticing she was looking down at her hooves.
Putting his nose beneath hers, he pulled her face up so he could look into her eyes.
"What are your feelings for me?"
Now or never... Right?

“No, we didn’t talk about you because you were the only thing that came up,” she said with a little laugh, quirking her eyebrow at him as she studied him for a moment. “We talked about you because it would have been odd to strike up a conversation about the weather, or children, or a number of other silly topics. You were just the only topic we had in common, I believe.” Which was true – Shaitani and Naina had led very different lives.
“Well, besides the fact that she has the same curly locks as her father?” she asked with a mischievous grin. She laughed softly and shook her head, sending that sapphire mane tossing slightly, despite its short length, “she knew my name.” She shrugged softly, as if that were the whole reason, “she sort of found me and asked that right away. Then of course, saying that her father told her what I looked like was a big help – I haven’t been talking to any other males recently.”
As he pulled her head up to stare into his eyes, she felt her stomach give another large lurch. This was a hard thing to say, even when she knew that he would not reject her. She took a deep breath, glancing away from his deep eyes for a moment, and then calmly looked back. “I think, Jean-Claude, that I have begun to fall in love with you.” Despite the leaping stomach and the jittery nerves, she had regained control of herself outwardly. She said it with confidence in that lilting voice, putting up a very strong front. However, it really was taking everything she had to keep looking into those eyes.

Jean smiled. Ah yes, here it was. Naina had gotten to Shai. A grin was on his face as his eyes stared into hers. He loved this mare too, and after Nostalgia, he had feared never having love again.
Pausing, he stared into her eyes some more, A Sapphire connection.
His Ebony curls of which Shai had just described, blowing outwardly from the little wind. The same wind that tussled those short azure locks of hers.
"You..have?" He asked, Raising an eyebrow, and growing a quirky very unlike him smile.
"Shai,.. I believe I fell in love with you the moment I met you."
He said, feeling his heart beat rapidly as his maw couldnt hold back the brilliant smile.

Shai idly watched the wind stir his curly, ebony locks, standing there in silence as she let the situation wash over her. It was sort of calming, really, to watch the wind dance those tresses about – and it certainly took her attention away from the trouble at hand. Well, not really trouble, but it was such an awkward conversation and it simply made her stomach tie itself in knots. She wasn’t used to that – not even with Eloran.
“I have,” she said weakly as she forced herself to turn her attention back onto him and lock once more onto those eyes. However, at his next words, she simply laughed and leaned into nuzzle him rather affectionately. That was what you were supposed to do, right? She couldn’t remember, and had little practice anyway. She had fled Eloran quickly, and her parents weren’t a real couple anyway.
“Then I suppose I should thank Naina,” she whispered, nipping softly at his neck and stepping a little closer than she might have dared before, “for giving me the courage to talk to you this way.”

Jean couldnt help but smile.It was as if his heart was being filled with the promise of love and hope. His eyes gleamed with a gleam, very different from the gleam he had carried for Nostalgia. Nostalgia had been a brief and flighty affair. He had confused dramatics for love.
But he was older. He was wiser, and he had been through heartbreak enough to know when it was serious or when it was just a little get together.
His long curls spun around his creme face, and touched her cheek gently as she nuzzled him. It had been so long since he had had any affection from anyone in so long. It was most welcomed, and he even closed his eyes to let the feeling of her being so close sink in.
He offered her a nuzzle back, gently touching her cheek with his nose.
Yes, he supposed he should thank Naina as well. Even if he had given express orders to never say anything to anyone about it. But had he told her just to tell her? Had he had this little thought into the back of his mind that maybe Naina would run into Shai?
But that was perposterous.. Right?
"I should thank her as well. For I wasnt going to speak the words to you.. Ive felt too much pain to start. But I am happy with you. I love you Shaitani. I do. I know that Im not the best stallion, and my record is smudged.. But I will make you happy. You wont have a choice, Ma petite."
He said, winking.
