Kairi sat at the Ravenclaw table one cold day during lunch. She poked at her food as she looked around the room, feeling slightly stupid about the fact that she was alone.
The enchanted ceiling above her was full of clouds, the sky an odd purple color.
Tapping a Muggle song she had in her head with her empty hand, Kairi thought about her classes she had been to only a few minutes earlier.

Lex walked into the great hall during the middle of lunch. She wasn't concerned about her tardiness, lunch wasn't mandatory, and she had spent half of it taking a nap in the ravenclaw common room. Lex went over to the empty ravenclaw table and sat down with a sudden appetite.
"Hey Kairi," Lex said to one of the few people at the table. Lex filled her plate an began to eat. "How's it going?"

Margaret, entirely filled up with her own thoughts and concerns, walked in to the semi-crowded Great Hall for lunch.
She had had a unusually nasty morning, with more failures than she could take, and now she was hungry and sour.
With an annoyed wrinkle appearing between her eyes, everytime a younger student got in her way, she made her way to the Ravenclaw table, and sat down, not far from Lex and Kairi.

Lex glanced over to see a housemate side down nearby.
"Hey Margaret," she said. Margaret looked stressed and distraught. "What's eating you?" Lex asked while taking a bite into her sandwich.

Kairi grinned at the other Ravenclaw who had just joined her.
Offering Lex a plate of what looked like cookies, Kairi said, "Hey, hows your day been?"
Kairi brushed a red lock of hair off her shoulder while she spoke, letting the rest ripple on her black-covered back.

"Not bad," Lex said turning her attention back to Kairi. "I'm a little sleepy, but I'll live." Lex thankfully grabbed a cookie from Kairi's plate. "How about you? anything interesting happen?"

"Hello, Lex" said Margaret, more to herself than to anyone else. Which was probably a good thing, as being in a bad mood made her talk in a bored, cold voice. More cold and bored than usual, that is.
She helped herself to a mountain of mashed potatoes, but when she reached for some sausages, she managed to knock over the pumpkin juice. She swore and reached for her wand, as the orange liqud flooded over the table.

Steven walked into the Great Hall with his nose in a book as usual. He was so deeply involved with it that while walking toward the ravenclaw table he managed to run into a group of First Years. "Sorry!" he called to them as he picked up his book. He walked over to the table and sat down next to Lex. "Hey how ya guys doin?"

"Hey Steven," Lex said. "well, I think it's safe to say we're all okay. We're completely in tact at least. How about you?" Lex noticed the book in her friend's hand. "what's that you're reading?"
