It seems these days that there seems to be alot of kids with ADD, ADHD, or something similar. I do NOT think that there is suddenly an influx of kids with learning disorders. I think the problem is that parents and doctors are too quick to write a child off as having a learning disorder and give him some medication for it. And honestly I feel that it is not that we are just now detecting all of them I think that parents need to put more effort into educating and helping their children instead of giving them more medication.

Absolutely. I've been diagnosed with ADHD, and fortunately I've never gotten drugs for it, but it truly is apalling to see how lazy the system is in dealing with people like me.

I've also heard of a connection between eating white bread and having ADHD. In some cases, symptoms disappeared after the kid switched to brown bread. Why don't we realize that the food we eat affects our body so many ways? Why aren't doctors informing us of it? Of course, there are people like me who know and ignore the problems associated with certain foods, but that's no excuse for keeping the information from people.

The cure to ADD is a smack to the head.

Did we have problems with students paying attention, say 30 years ago? No, because the teachers just smacked a child that wasn't paying attention.

ADD is nothing but a liberal lie, created to furter degenerate our children into sodding pussies.

How do you know it's a "liberal lie" and not the radical change in diets in the past 30 years?

I wouldn't necessarily call it a 'liberal lie' I take medication for it it does seem to help but honestly I think in most cases the students and parents are just too lazy to learn. I don't think its as common as people think it is

I'm pro on this! I have ADD and receive no medication for it what-so-ever. I take full blame for whatever I get on my report card because I should be working harder than what I do anyways, but procrastination is another thing that is girpping this generation by the throat. Medication should only be used for the kids that REALLY need it, and not just because someone has trouble listening at school.

Any btw, 30 years ago they did have trouble. Sure, the kid was paying attention, but ADD is a lot further than that. The kid was concidered stupid because they couldn't suck up any knowledge. Now we know that's not true and are a bit more leanient on the subject. Problem is that we've become too nice.

What evidence do you have that assumes a higher volume of sugar content in our food increases our suscpability to mental diseases?

If anything I would say the sugar just makes kids more active, which makes it appear like ADD.

I also was told by my teacher that I had ADD when I was in elementary school. No, I was just bored. After we sued him and got him fired I was entered in the challenge program and was head of the class.

There are different levels of each and every mental dissorder. You don't not have ADD just because you're intelligent. There's a difference between being mentally retarded and mentally unstable. An example would be from the movie Saw. Sure, it's fantacy, but it perfectly portrays the mind of a serial killer. If you break down the elements and pay close attention to what's going on in the movie, the man's brilliant! And, because of the whole killing people thing, he's insane. Sure, this isn't at the same line or level as ADD, but it's a good example for mental issues in general.

I see a profit motive for powerful drug companies and and the medical industry. What could be more perfect than using doctors to invent or exaggerate a need that drug companies are happy to fill? Lets all trust the opinions of experts who profit off our ignorance! Yay! I love America.

i have been told that i have both ADD and ADHD by teachers cause i could never pay attention. its never been diagnosed and i really dont think that i do have either. my main downfall is that i get bored really fast and im gonna try to do anything to stay sane. so i ended up getting kicked out of a lot of classes but i wasnt bored anymore.
