The knot in Dr. Madison Moreau's stomach began to make her feel weezy as she looked out the window of the helicopter. It was so far down and all she could see was the ocean.
"Where are we going anyways?" Madison shouted, trying to make her voice sound loudly. She didn't know how loud it was as her hearing was now gone. It was so difficult living now ever since the terrible accident years ago. She tried her best to cope with her disability.
In response to her answer, the pilot flinched but acted like he hadn't heard anything. She felt stupid since even if he did answer, she wouldn't know. Madison tightened the seat belt around her lab coat covered body and laid back into the seat. Suddenly it felt like her stomach was going into her throat as she felt the helicopter dive down.
Squinting through one blue eye she managed to open, she could see a mass of land approaching. It looked like a small green pea at first but began increasing in size. Madison saw breezing palm leaves through her small window. 'Could I be in the Bahamas? Sure could use a vacation' Madison thought to herself. She rubbed her hands as they had been wrapped around the seat belt for hours. Her finger ran over a horizontal bump on her wrist and she furrowed her brow. The wound on her wrist had long been healed, but it still throbbed when touched. It brought her back to this painful day when her life had no meaning...
A thud interrupted Madison's thoughts and felt her stomach rise higher until she threw up a little in her mouth. Being up high had always made her sick ever since she could remember. The pilot turned around and mouthed some words, but no sound came out. Having some experience in reading lips, Madison made out that he said to get out of the copter.
"No.. I'll stay right here thank you!" she snapped back at him. She felt so scared and was glued to her seat. The pilot shook his head and opened the hatch. He even had the nerve to yank her arm and pry her from the seat.
Madison almost lost her balance after she felt herself being pushed by the pilot into the helipad. She gripped the handles of the rolling stairway that had been scooted up to the hatch for easy exit. Sirenz shoot back at the pilot a glare that could kill and extended a middle finger from behind.
Her hair flew wildly all around her and until she brushed it away with her fingers, all she could see was red. The helicopter's engine then began to lift itself away. 'Where am I? Why is he leaving me here? I'm so helpless... I don't even see any signs of life besides this crud helipad!' Madison yelped. The stone of the helipad had been cracked in many areas with weeds growing through. It looked like no one had been here in a long time.
A tear fell down Madison's cheek as she saw the helicopter fly high into the clouds and disappeared.

If Madison could hear, she would have heard Moreau's jeep already on it's way to her, as it cut through the curvey roads surrounded by dense jungle. Most of the time Moreau left this drive to Aubrey lately, but this was a very personal trip.
As he cut out of the underbrush to the helipad he pulled sideways, in front of Madison. He turned off the engine and looked at her, staring right at her so she could read his lips. "Welcome dear cousin, to my island." Dr. Moreau made sign language of greeting her.

Madison squealed with delight as she saw a familiar carrot top wizz through the jungle leaves in a jeep. All feelings of fear and frustration were immediately pushed aside as her mouth tickled at the corners. Was this a smile that was creeping onto her usually solemn face?
"Nicky! Is that you?" Madison shouted, putting a hand above her eyes to shield the blazing sun. It was so hot here and she found herself sweating profusely under her lab coat. Her black pumps thudded on the helipad cement as she ran towards him.
She smiled as he greeted her through the movements of his supple lips and signs with his hands. 'I didn't know he spoke sign language... It's just like him to be so prepared' she thought to herself while tugging at a stray piece of auburn hair.
Madison tried to remember how to make her voice sound calm as she began thinking of what to say.. Finally!
"Thanks! Nice place you got here... Are there dinosaurs on this island?" she giggled.

"Not yet." Moreau signed and said. "I suppose your curious as to what I called you here for."
Moreau looked his cousin over, it'd been years since he'd seen her. He knew what had happened to her though. He liked to keep tabs on his relations. He also knew exactly what she'd want to hear.
Moreau grinned ear to ear, as he got in the jeep and beckoned her to join him. As a final enticement he signed "I can make you hear again."
Moreau started the jeep back up... the wide crazy smile playing across his face.

Madison's azul eyes widened when she saw Dr. Moreau sign the most incredible thing she could think of. She hoped he wasn't bullshitting her..although she never remembered him to be the practical joker. There had to be a reason why he had brought her out to this island paradise. It couldn't of been that he felt she needed a relaxing vacation from her hectic life because they hadn't spoken in years.
She stood very still for awhile, her mind pacing and going into deep thought. Finally she shook her head and snapped back to reality. 'I wonder how long I been in a daze...' she thought as she looked at the silly grin on Dr. Moreau's sun-kissed face. She hadn't ever seen him with so much color. He used to be so pale and quiet. Now he looked like he had a genuine reason for living and she envied him for that. Her own life had no meaning.
The jeep's motor vibrated under her fingertips as she got in and fastened her safety belt. She turned and signed back to him "Are you sure you aren't ******** with my head here?".

Instead of replying Dr. Moreau mearly gave a smile and a look that seemed to say "Of course I'm not kidding."
The Jeep pulled towards the lab the gates opening automatically as he approached. They closed behind him, as he parked near the lab and turned off the Jeep. Getting out he beckoned his cousin to follow.

A tall building came closer as Madison and Dr. Moreau went through these thick iron gates. There was so many windows that Madison felt like someone might be watching her through one of them at least. The jeep pulled up to a doorway with giant windows and an access code lock near it. She thought that this must be a place that only important authorized people were allowed to enter.
''Is the answer to all my problems behind those doors?'' Madison thought to herself while unbuckling her seat belt. Dr. Moreau was already out of the jeep so she unlatched the lock and stepped outside.
Half the lab reached into this giant mountain behind it so it was way bigger then it looked. Sort of like a mysterious ice berg poking out from the icy ocean. Looks can be deceiving.
Madison strolled up towards the door but it wouldn''t open. She flung back a stray piece of auburn hair and waited for Dr. Moreau.

Dr. Moreau smiled and walked towards the door as they opened automatically. He smiled at Madison and signed "D.N.A. Scanners" then he walked through the door. He lead Madison to an elevator past a pristine clean lobby. The elevator of course opened automatically as well. Moreau stepped with Madison into the elevator, said something she could make out his lips to be "Floor 10" and the buttonless elevator headed up.
"I have perfected a gene theropy, to combine Animal and Human DNA, with it we can restore your hearing... more so, we can make it better than the hearing of a normal human." all this was signed as he made sure she could read his lips and the elevator climbed. As he finished the door opened into a large lab room.

Madison followed the Dr. towards the elevator, but hesitated to get inside. She hated being in confined spaces. Even at her old job she would take several flights of stairs to get to her destination. Her legs and body were well toned as a result, even though she had never stepped foot in a gym.
After a moment, she decided to get in. A chance to hear was worth it to conquer her fear. She suddenly had this endless desire to do whatever Dr. Moreau wanted because she believed he was serious in saying he could help her. Her black pumps clacked against the super shiny lobby floor as she stepped into the elevator.
The Dr. mouthed 'floor 10' and immediately the elevator wooshed up real fast. The feeling made Madison's stomach tie in knots and it was similar to the helicopter ride earlier. She held on the horizontal brass bar that extended around the back of the elevator extremely tightly. Holding her breath, she gasped when it reached a complete stop.
It opened into this massive room filled with all kinds of equipment. She had worked with some before but others she had never seen.

"Sit" Dr. Moreau signed as he walked over to a cabnet. He opened a drawer and pulled out a black fluid. He inserted it into a needle.
"I've saved this one for you cousin, it may take a few treatments but you'll be able to regain your hearing." Moreau paused smiling, "and eventually surpass normal human hearing."
"All I ask is absolute loyalty from you... I do this for you and you work here from here on. I can't let anyone get word of what I am doing here." he looked serious at this point.
"You will be an example of how my research can benifit humanity." Moreau grinned as he picked up the needle. "Pull up your sleeve," he mouthed.

Madison walks out of the elevator and into the huge laboratory. Dr. Moreau went over and got something from a cabinet. She couldn't see what it was. He pointed to a steel stool and mouthed 'Sit' so Madison obeyed.
The Dr. was signing how this vial contained some sort of treatment that could help her hearing. She felt all confused. There wasn't any drugs on the market that could restore hearing loss. She had previously looked into it. Only an operation existed for those who had lost only partial hearing, not for someone totally deaf.
He then talked about how loyalty was important. She didn't really like that idea. Madison was an independant woman that did things her own way..not the sort to follow orders. Dr. Moreau was beginning to sound like an army drill sargeant. She couldn't tell the tone of his voice so she didn't know if he was barking orders or speaking calmly. Without hesitation, Madison nodded her head and looked into Dr. Moreau's eyes.
"I agree. I will do anything you ask" but she didn't know where those words came from. Probably from her heart with the desire to hear.
Out of the corner of her eye, Madison saw a big needle coming towards her. It was a vial filled with black liquid that the Dr. was holding. He mouthed for her to raise up her sleeve, so she did.

Dr. Moreau inserted the needle into her arm and pushed the chemicals into her blood. He then set the needle down, and smiled at Madison.
"Not so bad." he signed. "I want you to spend some time with the other inhabitants of the island, don't tell them why you are here yet."
"You'll be afforded space in the dormitories, you and three other technicians will head up your own teams. Though you will need atleast partial hearing recovered before we can go that far." Moreau smiled.
"For the first couple of weeks, till the second injectino just enjoy youself." Moreau finished signing and went to go put up the needles and uch.

Madison's arm throbbed as Dr. Moreau pricked the needle in. She bit down on her tounge to cushion the aching pain. Needles were never something that she liked.
A sudden calmness came over her after all the contents was emptied into her veins. It was like a high of some kind and it was remniscent of her college days when she smoked marijuana. She just felt so peaceful and afraid at the same time. This feeling was something new and exciting to her as she laid back into the chair staring at the ceiling.
Dr. Moreau signed that she should meet other inhabitants so she nodded her head. Then, getting up off the chair, Madison shaked his hand.
"Thanks for everything, Doctor. I'll be sure to do that..I need some time to relax" she said smiling and headed for the door.
