Trouble seemed to follow him where he roamed. Not only had he become the enemy of the local tribes near the plains, he had more than a few adults ready to scold him for his unruly behavior. Chandar, of course, saw nothing wrong with taking what wasn't his and believed that the world was purely out to get him! Why the world hated him so he just didn't know. . . .

But he'd show the world. Oh yes he would.

Careless as ever, the little colt was on a mission. He wanted to find a few new shiny and jangly things to keep in his possession and he also wanted to get in to a fight. Maybe if he found a bear he could challenge it to a duel! Or better yet - a kalona!

Oooh.

The young soquili was looking for a fight and adventure today and he wouldn't rest until he had found either or. Thus far, though, his plans had been futile. He'd met none on his journey - neither friend nor foe - and the world seemed to be at a loss for anything shiny. Drat!

Snorting softly in annoyance, nostrils flairing, the boy decided that he only way he'd scare up some trouble was to be trouble itself! "WAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" He suddenly screamed as if it were some sort of war cray. Ears pinned, the colt took off like a light bursting haphazardly through the foliage of the underbrush. He tried to look as fierce as he could, and was ready to change direction the minute something came to life!

He couldn't be the only one in the woods - could he?

The small grey femme grazed on the autumn grass, this was as good as it was going to get before winter as momma said. She had been still taking her mother's milk but she was aging quickly it seemed. Her lavendar orbs rose at some shrill scream. She snorted softly as she went back to grazing that mindless sound was coming closer.

She watched as an ebony and green colt came through the brush in an agressive stance. She flicked her tail and well...ignored him. Attention getter, she didn't need that at the moment. She wondered how long it would take him to get the clue the noise wasn't needed nor wanted. Though she did embrace chit chat, it was just complicated for her...she still hadn't developed a voice. So she was left handicapped...a mute. But her down fall would soon be her greatest accomplishment.

It caught him unprepared, a flicker of grey amongst the shadows of the woods. He almost would have missed her had she not flicked her tail, and wouldn't that have been a sad thing indeed! Slamming on his breaks, his battle cry dying, the colt weaved around a few trees in a wide arc to return to where Raina stand.

Aqua eyes scrutinized and study this creature - he was almost upset he hadn't scared her in to running or cowering. Maybe his battle cry needed to be more fierce. . . yeah, that was it. Up the fierceness next time and for sure he'd dig up trouble. As it was all he seemed to have wound up was a girl. . . .

Oh well.

It was better than nothing!

Flicking his short tail, the amicable colt pawed at the ground as he stopped before her. His 'fierce' expression softened in to a much more easy-going and good humored smirk. Chandar wasn't really a bad boy, he just was wild and didn't understand the difference between right and wrong. . . and on the few times he did he chose to ignore it.

Where Raina had a family, Chandar was on his own.

"You were supposed to run so I could chase you, ya know," he added with a soft sigh, catching his breath from all his running and screaming. "But whatever." He dismissed her ignorance with a small shrug of his shoulders and another sloppy grin. Shaking his mane over his shoulder, the male gave a soft snort, "Good lunch?"

He chattered, glancing down at the grass which she ate. It wasn't as lush or green as it had been in the summer months but it looked fresh. Chandar would be in for quite a shock when the snows came.

She frowned and snorted at him, wondering why she was supposed to run. That seemed a bit...stupid.

Her head tilted as she listened to him with the upmost attention and smiled and nodded even though she had, had better she didn't know how to explain it. She didn't know how to explain many things besides what she did and didn't like if it didn't consist of 'yes' or 'no' to her likes and dislikes.

She pranced around for a moment, maybe he was talking of the game tag. She looked at him and grinned nosing his side and then running off a distance to see if he was playing or not. Her tail swayed side to side as she turned to look at the little ebony colt. She was still suprised her mother and father hadn't found her yet. That would be...troublesome.

Chandar hardly realized that the girl didn't talk. In fact, there was a good chance it would take him a while before he noticed her mute nature. He often was a chattery little fellow and it didn't matter whether or not the other person responded. As it was, he glanced down at the grass that she had agreed was good.

Hmmm.

Reaching down he ripped his own mouthful, tail swishing impatiently behind him. Well, it wasn't the best but it was better than nothing! What he really wanted was another apple. . . yep, yep, yep. Strangely enough the fruit around and on the trees weren't nearly as delicious as the ones the tribes folk offered. Somehow they just seemed to pick the very best! Maybe that's why the only ones left were rotten or sour?

Chandar turned his teal eyes on the silver girl who suddenly nudged him. Lunch forgotten, the boy slurped up the last of his grass and saw the stranger look over at him. It took him a moment to understand what she wanted, what she was doing, but instinct fast took over. Play! The grey filly was actually starting some sort of game. Sure, she was running away from him a little too late buuuuut that could be forgiven!

Eyes growing wide with delight, the little colt gave a loud laugh and sprang after her. "Better watch out! I'm gonna getcha!" And he would, of course. He was a boy after all and boys were the best! Scrambling after her, he hoped she'd let him give chase.

She shook her head with a big grin...as she lept forward leading the chase. She didn't mind the cool autumn breeze, rather embraced it as well as the sound of crunching fire colored leaves. Her lavendar orbs grazed back her little grey body. For such a small body, she was anything but fragile. She had been through the rough and tumble lately. She had the scratches and bruises to prove it.

She let out a whicker, about the only noise she made besides the laughter that was muted but came with laughing 'snorts'. Her tail flicked behind her as if to whip her to go faster. Her cloven hooves barely grazed the ground as she wove between trees. Girls rule, boys drool! she smiled at the thought.

Had Chandar been telepathic he would have rolled in laughter at her thoughts. Girls were the ones that drooled as far as he was concerned! In reality he didn't mind girls, but he did like to be tough and often saw them as the weaker of the two genders. It wasn't that he was sexist, it was because out of all the stallions and mares he'd witnessed, the males more often than not tended to be larger. They were stronger and bigger and it was just the way nature made them.

Ego and pride caused him to believe that, therefor, they were better than girls. And that was that.

As one could tell, regardless of his belief in the more powerful gender, Chandar had no trouble interacting with Raina. A game was a game no matter who it was with and the black colt was going to enjoy it. Weaving in and out of the trees, bringing them deeper within the woods, the little colt laughed. She was fast, he'd give her credit, but that tail of hers was slowly getting closer.

Stretching out his neck, he attempted to n** lightly at it, just to let her know he was there. This grey colored filly wasn't going to best him in a race, no no no!

It never occurred to the boy to take note of where he was. Unlike Raina, he had no family to worry about, and if he fell off the face of existence it just plum wouldn't matter. The colt hardly knew where he came from, besides remember using a basket as he grew to curl up in at night. He'd slept within the broken and weaved thing until he was too big to fit, and like a bit of a security object, had kept nearby until one afternoon it disappeared. Someone or something had snatched it away, and Chandar couldn't understand why or where.

That was when his journeys began anew.

He'd drifted like a lone spirit, never staying long in one place. The world was turning out to be a lot bigger than he'd first imagined. Thankfully it kept things interesting. So weaving deeper within the dark woods was no problem for Chandar - there was no such thing as getting lost, just going somewhere new.

Raina was glad that there was someone who could just play with her instead of question her on things she could literally not answer and then ask why? Because she couldn't that perhaps was one of the things that irritated her the most. But she let it go and let herself run free...completely free.

She bucked around for awhile but she felt the lightest touch on her flank and saw that it was the colt. She didn't even know his name...what was knew. She didn't need to know. She knew he wasn't a threat, he was fun and he wasn't asking questions it was done.

Her lavendar eyes narrowed as she turned sharply narrowly missing a tree and sprinting right after him. Her chest heaving from the running she loved it. Though she couldn't say the much as Chandar, he spent his nights alone where she had a herd full at her teepees. She spent the night by a warm fire beside her mother or in the warmth of the tent with her sister. Either way she couldn't know what it was like to be on her own yet secretly she kind of wondered because she was having a blast at the moment.

It wasn't always fun being on ones own, but Chandar didn't know what he was missing. The natives scared him with their loud music and chants, and when they grew upset or angry - boy oh boy - that wasn't something he wanted to mess with! They kept all their soquili locked up (sometimes with other horses) and the soquili seemed to have no objections about staying! Why didn't they run free when they had the chance? What was so wonderful about being with the natives besides treats and the occasional brush?

Chandar couldn't stand to be tied down like that. To not have the ability to roam and be free, to be unable to do what one wished was an awful thought to the black and green colt. All his life he'd known only how to survive himself - to cuddle close to his basket for warmth while he was very young, to taking refuge in the woods during the worst of weather. He didn't often socialize because he was often too busy stealing. . . . A theif amongst his own kind, really.

He wanted sparklies and shinies too! Though his prized possession was the feather and dream catcher upon his neck. The feather matched his coat and had been with him since birth. Out of all his shinies he wouldn't trade it in the world. He knew the stories, he knew the idea behind them - it kept nightmares away from him. And that was something the little colt secretly cherished.

Today was different. Instead of keeping to himself and theiving the world he was actually playing with another! Who'd have thought! The little hoodlum was still very much a foal and he had yet to grow up and become too old for such games. Tail flicking behind him, he almost reared up as the grey rocket in front of him whirled hot on her hooves. She was now the one chasing, and Chandar laughed out loud.

"Hosnap!" He cried, picking up his pace so the little silver filly didn't tackle him down. If it was a chase she wanted she'd be sure to get one! Deeper and deeper in the woods he brought her, careful of his step over pits of earth and ragged weeds and roots. "You're mighty fast for a girl!" He teased, unaware of exactly how deep within the woods he was taking her.

PostPosted: Mon Oct 22, 2007 5:32 pm

She followed him with a big smirk upon her face but she seemed to notice that the light was getting darker and darker as the trees got bigger and bigger...the filly slid to a stop. She hadn't a clue where she was, and she was pretty sure she was past the borders that were given to her from her parents. She looked around nervously as she nickered to the ebony colt. Hoping he would come back.

She didn't feel tied down, she knew the ruled but they were to keep her safe and alive. Chandar was strong and brave. He could probably talk his way out of some due trouble as well but she lacked in that department.

True the female was fast but she was also quick on her feet to stop she had left prints in the soft mud of a forrest floor. She paced between the two trees as her heart seemed to beat faster. How could she explain this?

Chandar heard the nicker and a glance behind his shoulder proved the grey rocket had stopped. Skidding to a halt himself, the boy made a wide arc between the trees as he slowed. His run transformed in to a trot and, within a few moments, he made it back to the little filly's side.

Quirking a brow he offered a speculative look before studying the trees. They were large ones, ancients of the woods, each covered in moss and mushrooms. The sun was all but blocked as they were embraced by shadows, and a mist could be seen gathering amongst the pits of the soil. "What's wrong?" He questioned, though he didn't expect much of an answer.

She seemed like the quiet sort.

If Chandar had one guess it was because she was afraid. Girls were always afraid of the silliest things. Was it the dark that intimidated her or the thought of spiders and bears and monsters? Really, the heart of the woods wasn't any different than any part. It wasn't as if evil things lurked within the dark places more than they lurked in the light. . . . One part of the forest was just as habitable as any other so there was no reason to be afraid.

"It's a pretty neat place," he encouraged, offering the stranger a lop-sided grin. Had he ever been in this woods before? Not as far as he could tell. But as far as the boy could tell if you saw one forest you saw 'em all. "There's a whole world of adventure out here!"

Part of Chandar didn't want the filly to leave - not yet. This was his first friend in his short, very young lifetime and even though it was with a girl of all things. . .well. . . . it surely was better than nothing.

PostPosted: Fri Oct 26, 2007 12:19 pm

The filly watched him as he circled back around her way as she smiled and pranced among the wet ground as she turned to head back towards the light. Though her lavendar markings did a fair deal of lighting things up as they seemed to glow in the dark, especially the tribal sun she had inherited fro mher mother. She quirked her head at him, as he explained his reasoning. He didn't want to go, and neither did she but it was kinda spooky and the festivites of fall were coming when the indians dressed in different robe unfamiliar.

She sighed softly with a flick of her tail as she padded back over to him and nudged his rump for him to show her this grand world of darkness. His grand world of darkness.

Truth be told he too was the first friend she had as well. Perhaps besides Tsela, he didn't understand her aswell as this one did. She smiled as her yellow face followed his wondering what he was up to and wondering where in this place he could take her that she might consider as great of a place as he thought it was.

Chandar didn't really know where he was going to take Raina - the woods were the woods and was mostly inhabited by trees. And trees could only be so fun for so long. Unless one had wings - which he did NOT - they weren't very good except for hiding behind. Sometimes there were caves, but those were rare and far between, and other times there were pools and ponds and rives and lakes and secret meadows.

Exactly WHAT might be within this particular forest Chandar didn't know - but there was no reason to stop now. Just because everything was getting bigger and darker and scarier didn't mean they couldn't investigate. Maybe they'd find super big bugs~! Or ghosts! Yes, hadn't some humans talked about spirits reborn . . . .?

Pawing at the ground, the little colt glanced over at his very quiet friend and continued. "Think of it as a grand adventure - we get to go somewhere new!" It didn't occur to Chandar that she might have family waiting for her. As far as the colt understood those who were alone were always alone. He never had anyone to return to and she certainly hadn't made any comment about it. Logic told him she held the scents of a variety of others, but who was to say they were family and not just acquaintances or strangers?

Green and black tail swished behind him as his nostrils flared. Not at all concerned about the looming shadows, the boy trotted further within the woods. At the very least a person could only run in to a woods halfway - the other half they were on their way to the exit. So no matter how dark adn scary it might be, he understood they couldn't stay in the place forever. "So what's your name anyway, or do I hafta guess? I'm Chandar!" He didn't mind needing to guess - he could always just give her a nickname too.

PostPosted: Sun Oct 28, 2007 5:51 pm

The little filly looked at the skies and rememvered what clicked in Tsela's mind...but there weren't any flowers around here...she looked around with her brows furrowed. Rain...rain...rain?? Her muscles in her mind seemed to strained as she found a few fungi...she wrinkled her nose at it. It smelled like rotton apples and decayed flesh. She shook her head walking away from it. Where was the rain here? She walked around trees looking for some form of water. But there was none. She could aimlessly point to the sky but she didn't think he would get it. She motioned towards the sky and then followed her nose to the grass to look at him. That could mean anything...light, air, colors...psh she was being so undescriptive her mother wouldn't even know what she was saying.

His name was Chandar though. It was pretty, she liked it. She wished she could have the name Chandar...even though it was a boy name. It sounded strong and sturdy. She smiled and chuckled at the thought looking back to the colt.

She followed him, unaware of the possibilities of she might not get back. That was a scary and dreaded thought.

Chandar stopped and couldn't help but to stare dumbly at the filly before him. What on earth was she doing? She trotted around various spots, sniffing here and there and dismissing other things. Slowly, ever so slowly, it dawned on him that perhaps she was trying tell him something. Her name. . . .? Well, maybe, he had asked her.

When she stared up at the sky and dipped her head, Chandar couldn't help but look up. There was a lot of things up there - foliage and leaves, limbs, branches, clouds, sky, air. . . . And why was she now staring at the ground? The boy furrowed his brow before heaving a sigh. "How 'bout this - I'll call you. . . uh. . . . um. . . . " He glanced at her, than around them, trying to think of an appropriate name. She didn't speak, but Mute sounded like a boys name and he doubted she'd appreciate it. Her colours were dark but she had a pale face that reminded him of sunshine. . . . And she was fast. Very fast, actually. Hmmm. . . . Jog? Bolt? "Swift! It'll be a secret name, least 'til I find out your real one. So how 'bout it, Swift? Sound good?"

Whether she agreed or not it didn't really matter.

From here on forward the black and green colt would forever look upon Raina as the little filly named Swift. Regardless of what she really was called, he liked it, and it worked as a substitute.

Glancing over his shoulder, he took a playful n** at the girls mane before puffing out his chest and delving deep within the woods. For some reason this woods was might darker than usual, and mist began to swirl by their hooves. Hmm. . . . . He'd just ignore that. Spooks weren't real, were they?

"Kind of dark in here, ain't it?" He chuckled, doing his best to feign a growing nervousness with confidence. Tail swishing, he instinctively moved closer to the girl. . . .to protect her, of course! It wasn't as if he really was scared, or so the black and green colt would claim.

An eerie silence settled about them as the sun was blocked out. And it was then that he heard it. A snapping of twig to their right and slightly behind. Leaves rustled and something sounded as if it were moving closer. The birds had quit their singing and everything became. . . . creepy. Chandar stopped, turning to face the sound, pawing at the ground with his nostrils flaring.

Hmph. Just let something big and stupid walk out behind them. He wasn't afraid to fight.

((Sorry for the delay! You can either make up something or have it be Raina's mother or father or anything really. *chuckles* I'm game for anything you have in mind. ))
