This is a relatively new website, I think. There aren't that many people on there yet, and not too many options to choose from as far as language lessons go (German, English, Spanish, French, Hindi, and Chinese), but it'll probably grow.

EDIT: Now they have Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian. After spending so much time on this website I've also noticed the lessons have a lot of odd mistakes.

It's like MySpace for language learners/enthusiasts...

There is no forum from what I've seen, only private messages and chat.

Livemocha

The cool thing about this place is they have online session for each language, for levels or "phases" that make up 160 hours of material altogether, and the courses themselves basically mimic Rosetta Stone's method, where they show you images, you hear the word/sentence and have to pick, etc. You have the option of translating everything though, and people can comment and leave advice, etc.

Yeah, this place is cool. I just finished a conversation with someone from Italy and someone from Israel (who was Russian, and spoke Hebrew). They both wanted to practice their English.

Ooooh~

I have an account on there now; my name there is the same as the one here.

So far, the Spanish 2 lessons are kind of... below what I know already, but I find it useful still. smile

There are native Japanese speakers on there too. xd

I just had a conversation with someone from Japan, who had very good English and gave me a quick lesson (from dissecting a few sentences I typed).

What do you mean? "Maxed out?"

I started using it today.

Weird that this thread was resurrected when I just started using the website again. I'm really glad they god rid of that annoying "writing" portion, it was pointless and tedious.

They have Japanese now so I'm blowing through that course, maybe this will help with the JLPT.

I tried LiveMocha today and just got off from a conversation with someone from Japan. Wow, I never knew my Japanese skills came in handy. It was really fun!

I'm glad...

I see a lot of Japanese people on there but I've only ever talked to one of them, and he didn't seem very active.

I would talk to them more if I had a better version of Japanese on my language bar, the one on my laptop sucks (instead of typing n-i-h-o-n-g-o and having it come out as にほんご, I literally have to find the key for each character, so "i" is に, "b" is こ, etc). stare

If anyone has a remedy to this please help...

I'm on there as well; my name's simply Naomi so I guess I'm rather hard to find. I agree the provided courses aren't always as .... in-depth as I'd prefer, but they provide great starts to languages I have no background in - like Icelandic. Is anyone else having trouble getting the courses to recognise that you've completed the Listening/Learning/so on?

Oh and please add me and tell me you're from Gaia. :]
