It was a nice, cool day in October. Usually, the woman would have been outside, enjoying the temperate weather with any multitude of activites, but she seemed to have enough darkness on her mind that the grey skies were not as welcome today. Alex was in the immaculate and well kept gym, the sound of her padded knuckles pounding into the off-red punching bag filling the room. She was alone - just her and her punching bag - and didn't seem to mind in the least.

She was wearing a charcol sports bra and grey sweatpants that were tied loosely over her hips, not high enough to cover her scars. Enough time had passed that the bruises were gone, save for a few yellow remnants around her spine. The woman was intently thundering her barely padded fists into the same worn spot on the bag, sending it arching around where she would soundly punch it and send it back on its path. Tanned skin showed a light sheen of sweat from her extensive work out, and her eyes were dark and far away as though the bag she was beating on mercilessly was, in fact, something else completely.

More was just passing by the gym. It was not the time of the day where he'd conciously go into the large building and train---or rather discover---all by himself. He didn't pay attention, for most of the times, he'd pass by without seeing anybody around this area. It was fall, and majority of the students would likely be outside, enjoying the cool autumn weather. He too, was one of them, as the young man gathered around a few sport equipments in the locker room and got ready to go outside for a stroll after his daily check-up with Doctor Manneth, whose office was in the adjacent, yet connected science building not far away.

His eyes didn't see anything, but his ears were quick enough to detect noises coming from the supposely empty gym. The sound was an obvious factor that told More someone was in the building. The young man stopped at the door and peeked in out of curiousity, wondering what kind of person would be practicing at this hour. It didn't take him long to see Alex and her punching bag. The young man mused at the sight, stopping just to take a better look at the woman...a woman right? More could recall Dr. Manneth mentioning something about an all boy school. So whoever this woman may be, she was not a student...

The young man stayed by the doorway, watching Alex silently, while debating whether or not he should interrupt the woman's training.

Alex didn't notice the student watching her at first, stalking about the punching bag as it moved, swinging her fists at it with eerie accuracy and a practiced distribution of weight and strength. Her feet moved her around the swinging length of red like a dance, ducking around it when the angle wasn't right and landing a hard blow when it was in her favor. It was during one of her sidesteps that she realized there was a figure in the doorway; she would have been content to have continued her routine, but she had to remind herself that she was akin to a teacher's aid, and she had to be polite and professional.

She dodged about the thing a few more times until its swinging was slow enough that she could wrap her arms around it and keep it from moving. Her warm temple rested against the bag, her eyes turning over the person who was watching her, uncertain if he was a student or someone else. Keeping one arm around the bag, she lifted her other hand in an awkward wave. "Hey."

Well, at least she got the polite part. She wasn't so good at the professionalism of the school just yet.

Skilled as she was, More was almost certain that she was one of the teachers. Her aura, however, didn't seem as formal as the teachers he had encountered. The young man realized he was staring at the woman when she turned and greeted him unexpectantly. More jumped a little, and gave a slightly embarrassed and awkward smile.

"Oh, hey..."

Even though he told himself not to, More could not help but to continue looking at the dark skinned woman. To say the least, Alex was the first female he had encountered in this school. More's left hand unconcisouly squeezed at the little object that remained hidden in his pocket, unsure of what else to say.

After a period of silence, More started again. "Please, don't mind me, sorry if I interrupted your...training."

The young woman offered a sideways grin, rolling her shoulders in a shrug. "It's less of training, and more...something to do." Alex chuckled a little, releasing the bag to let it swing lazily, approaching the boy as she removed her minute padding from her hands. Standing in front of him, in all her scarred and easy-going glory, she offered a calloused hand in greetings. "I'm Alex. I help out Professor Larine. He's ah...y'know, teaches you youngin's how to fight." The grin grew a little, breaking only to blow a strand of her bangs from her eyes. Her hair was up in a ponytail, rather than a clip, as she still had some sensitivity from extended pressure.

She tilted her head to the side, regarding the boy thoughtfully. Keen green eyes shifted over his features - not lingering on the lack of an eye - before she remarked, "I haven't seen you around. Are you a new recruit? It'll be nice not to be the only new guy for a change." Of course, by 'guy,' she was referring to herself. Sometimes Alex forgot that it was an all-boy's school, and that the only other two females in the facility were both regarded as strange; she wasn't too far from that description herself, truth be told.

"Oh, if you want to come in, feel free. Just me and myself here." Alex stepped to the side to admit the boy entry if he so chose, her grin settling into a lopsided smile.

"I see..."

Seeing the woman's relaxed and open attitude, More felt his nerves relax a little. She wasn't a teacher after all, but someone to help out? "I have heard. General Greg Larine was the teacher for physical training and military combats." He nodded, taking a few steps to enter the gym by Alex's invitation.

On the question of whether or not he was new, More chuckled. It appeared that everyone seemed to be asking him this question. "I'm transferred here, kind of. It's nice---are you new also?" The young man blinked at Alex, a little amused by the fact that she too, was new to the school, and the fact that she referred herself as guy.

"Yeah," she responded to his question, tucking her gloves under her arm as she walked across the gym to the bag. She plucked a water bottle off of a near by machine, taking as polite of a gulp as she could manage before glancing over to More again. She found it a little odd that the kid hadn't introduced himself, but he was just a kid, right? "I, ah, met some of the teachers in a recent uproar, helped out a little...guess they liked me enough to keep me around." She winked, showing that it was more in jest than an egotistical remark. Alex had no ego to speak of.

She replaced the bottle, putting her gloves down next to it. "Haven't been here too long. Haven't met all the teachers, but if they're anything like the ones I have met, well..." Alex thought about it for a moment, choosing her words so as not to be insulting, "They're interesting folk. I'm sure they have a lot to teach." Strong shoulders lifted and dropped in a dismissive shrug; what did it matter to her?

Alex shifted her green eyes around the room before resting on the student once again. "So...if you're in this area, are you going Science?"

The young man looked around the gym while the other got her water. "Yes...they are very kind people." It wasn't an exactly agreement to what Alex was saying, but it was his comment and view on the teachers in the school. He wondered what the uproar was about, and made a mental note to ask Dr. Manneth about it later.

More shrugged a little in response to Alex's question. "I'm not sure. I'm mainly here for..." He stopped halfway, wondering if he should really tell the woman what he was here for. Personally, he was here for recovery and a new life, but would the woman understand that without being told that he was found half-dead on the island? And to the teachers, he was no doubt a subject of interest, far less than a human student.

"...experience. I'm taking a few courses here and there to see which path I really want to take." More had no doubt that magic existed in the world. Otherwise, he wouldn't be as abnormal.

"My name's More, by the way." The young man scratched his head a little and offered a hand to Alex as a habit of meeting someone new. "It's nice to meet you."

Eyes shifted in the slightest; the boy was unusual, to say the least. Alex was getting that strange feeling in her gut, like she did when she was around the ... elves. She repressed a shudder; she might never get used to that. A slender black brow arched at More's choice of words, only adding to her fast moving mind of curiosity, "That's what the school is for, right? Experience." She didn't know the truth, and if she had, she might have been warmer; in a way, Alex was starting over too. If that damn man would let her...

"I see. Nice to meet you, More." Alex wasn't sure if she should offer her hand again, but hey, how much stranger could this be? She extended her hand to him again, taking his and giving it a firm shake. The hair on the back of her neck stood on edge, but she couldn't pinpoint why. Her mind was a little muddled, bringing back broken memories of someone casting magic while her world was going dark; she felt like that, again, the way her body had reacted. Strange indeed.

She nodded her head to him, keeping her thoughts to herself behind a faint smile. "Well. If there's anything I can do to help ya, be it a tour or just some quiet company, don't hesitate to ask." Alex had no idea why she was offering her time to the strange boy, but it seemed like the right thing to do. The new people had to stick together, or something like that. She blamed her inability to focus on her current situation, watching More for his reaction.

Did he not think the teachers are kind? Alex's reaction was not anything out of ordinary in this case. Still, More felt a warmth surging up from the woman's hand, unsuspecting of his own influence on the other. More chuckled a little, embarrassed. "Yes, I suppose. But most students seem to have their goals already. I'm just a little slower than the rest."

Taking his hand back and putting them into his pockets, More nodded to the woman. "Thank you for the offer. Perhaps we can help each other out too, considering you are also new here."

Putting his eyes upon the punching bag, More mused. "Do you come here often? The gym I mean..."

She chose not to comment on his own sparse words, nodding nonchalantly. At the turn of conversation, Alex looked to the bag as well, again with another shrug. "I just came back from my old job site, this being one of my items. Hung it up just this morning, so I suppose the answer would be no." What had she done since she'd been here? Harassed Kenth daily until a few days ago, worked alongside Greg to formulate a plan on teaching the proper etiquette to fight, mostly having taken it easy until her bruises weren't blacker than the night sky.

"Despite the amount of free time I find myself with, I don't usually get myself this far. More often than not I'm with one of the teachers, or just recooperating." She wasn't very good at small talk, especially when her mind felt so heavy, and least of all with a student who seemed too old to be at the school and too undecided to hold a conversation.

Alex opened her mouth to ask where he chose to stay, but snapped it shut, deciding that a new kid wouldn't have a frequent haunt yet. Instead, she rattled on a little more, moving to pick up her gloves once more, "When all else fails, I'm usually on the shoreline. It's peaceful." She added the last part on as an afterthought, as she didn't quite feel like explaining wanderlust to the kid.

(Merg....)

It was fall, chilly and slightly windy. Really rather nice weather in his opinion, weather that he would have run in normally, but Greg wasn’t going for more of a run than he normally did. He was pretty sure that he had hear Alex mention something about going to the gym that day and he thought that it would be nice to have someone to talk to while he worked. He changed his oh so very full schedule, which was simply full to bursting with work and papers, so that he could go to the gym earlier in the day. He wasn’t a work out junky but he certainly didn’t stay in shape by lounging on his behind all day. (Although he was wearing his 'lounge on my behind sweat pants' and a white sleevless shirt) No, the only ones that got skiny from sitting around were the elves.

He was happy to hear Alex as he entered the place, and surprised to hear someone else. Normally he didn’t meet many people other than the classes he forc- he meant gave the great privilege of being in here. They all loved it really. He went to the main part of the gym smiling and found Alex along with… Hmm. He didn’t think that he had met that student before. Ah well. He had met him now he supposed.

“Alex why I would have never guessed that you ever would be here!” He said, surprise not really in his voice. “And with a friend. Well hopefully this means that you’ve been beating up a punching bag instead of turning my brother into one.”

More nodded, giving an indication that he was listening to the woman's words. In a way, they were very similar. Both of them were helping the faulties in their own ways. Alex was doing it according to her own will, and him...well, his looked more like repaying a debt, a debt which he doubt will ever be repaid.

"The school is a peaceful place in general." the young man smiled, trying to follow Alex's topic. "I've enjoyed every place I've been so far---" He couldn't finish his words before someone else came into the building and started addressing to the woman in front of him. More turned ever so slightly to see who it was. Someone he have not met before? This must have been his lucky day.

Alex was replacing her gloves, nodding automatically to More's words when another unexpected vistor was admitted into the gym. Her neutral face lit into a wide grin, dark green eyes sparkling with glee. "General!" she called to him, both to annoy him and out of respect. She practically skipped over to Greg, stopping short of hugging him only after he mentioned a 'friend.' It wouldn't do any good to be affectionate with another teacher in front of a student...at least, with a teacher that wasn't Kenth.

Her lips quirked a little, but she still looked much happier to see him. She turned her back to More, allowing her eyes to rest on Greg's immaculate abs before giving him another sideways grin. Oh, the jokes she wanted to hurl at him! But no...she had to be on her best behavior. Rather than be herself - which was apparently not a good thing in this case - she gave him a tight, sweet smile that didn't quite reach her eyes as the grin did. "General, this is More." Alex turned to motion towards More, eyes resting on the student. "More, this is General Greg Larine."

Addressing Greg's last bit of words, and to explain her tight smile, she shook her head, "As for your darling younger brother, I haven't seen him for a couple weeks. Been giving him a break from my constant pestering."

“You know it’s not general anymore.” He said with a forced smile. “It’s just Greg… But what did you say? A break? Well that’s quite a pity. Kenth could use your charming presence all the time; it might balance out his dourness.” Greg said sighing with face disconsolation in his voice. “I don’t seem to be doing the trick, I think that he needs a lady who can put up with his grumpynessness.” He put an arm around her shoulders for a moment then turned to look at More.

“It is very nice to meet you, More. As Alex said I’m Greg, although she was a little mistaken about the general part. That’s not there, it’s just Greg, or Larine or whichever you prefer.” He tilted his head to the side and looked More up and down. “Are you the new kid? The one that the girls found on the beach?”
