So, we held our marching invitational yesterday at my school's stadium. Since my band was the one hosting the event, we did odd jobs all day and were expected to do two exhibition performances where we don't get placed. Well, we were almost done warming up for the preliminary performance when all of a sudden, there was a huge flash of lightning, followed by a loud boom of thunder. We covered up our pit equipment quickly and went inside the band room to take cover. Someone came with news that lightning had struck the field just as the second to last competing band was about to go on it (No one was hurt, thank goodness). Then, the hail came. I'd say it was about pea-sized, so it wasn't extremely big or extremely small.
Eventually we were told to get out of uniform and tend to the pit equipment that had been outside in all of that and people had to shovel the hail off the field so the last two bands could go. Our prelim performance was cut. But that wasn't the only thing that was cut. Turns out that finals was cut too. We didn't get to perform at all and we got to clean up the stadium and go home early. There was an upside and downside to the event and as a senior who was participating in her last DCMI, it was rather interesting to say the least.
