Read that article.
Discuss it's contents.

Warning:
My rant below might make much more sense if you
actually read the article.

Sex with robots....
Now that's something I'd never thought about.
But I guess it is kind of like a slightly more advanced sex doll.

But...marriage?!
Sure, it sounds great, to have a "person" who is programmed to be
perfect for you. But who would actually want that?
Part of the beauty of humanity is all these little fights we have.
"Honey, did you remember to buy the wine?" "Uh...I'll go get it right now!"
I would most definitely not want to have a commitment with a machine.
Even if it is programmed to be my Mr. Perfect.

Quite frankly, I think the idea is disgusting.
And they're comparing it to homosexual and interracial marriages!
Yes, I agree, marriage should be between "two consenting adults"
But does it really count if one of the adults is programmed to consent?
But it's not like the robot can say "Oh, no, I don't want to get married"
if the person it "belongs to" programmed it to want marriage.

And...can you imagine "Robot Marriage Pride Day"?
Ick, ick, ick.
And the robots would be right there, next to their human companions
because they are programmed to do so.

Whatever happened to the idea of "soulmates"?
Well, in less than five years, you can get your own soulmate!
Exactly as the perfect man/woman you ever dreamt of.
Only...it's a robot. A machine.
Not an actually human with real feelings and dreams and
hopes and real love for you.
Not just programmed love.

SO...opinions?

EDIT: I just had a looong conversation with SmarterChild about it.
He doesn't think it'll happen.

Well...
I'd marry a robot,
if it was programmed to be human.

But I agree,
I wouldn't want to marry a robot that was programmed to be my "soulmate".

Takalian
Well...
I'd marry a robot,
if it was programmed to be human.

Heh heh.
Is that possible? confused

My sister said that.
Only she meant that she'd marry it if it were programmed to be slightly
different from her, with slightly different ideals and all that.
Then, they'd still have little fights and conflicts and it would be more "real"

And I was like
"But it'd still be a robot."

Just the thought of something doing something just because it's written
into it's little source code gives me the willies.

I <3 you.

I haven't read all of the article (no time right now), but it sounds like Chobits.

I think it's gross. They should be comparing it to bestiality, not homosexuality. As much as I wish I could "delete" some personality traits of people, I wouldn't actually want to get rid of them. That's what makes them human. I'd want to be loved out of a human's free will. I want to know that I'm attractive and charming enough to win somebody over all on my own. Having something programmed to love you is like being given all of the answers on an exam.

Besides, a robot can't be your soulmate. They'd have to have a soul in the first place. Your true soulmate would then be left all alone in the world unless they marry a robot, too.

A robot would have to have artificial intelligence and be eerily humanlike, both in appearance and nature. It would have to be able to tell when you're upset and what the appropriate response would be. If they do make a robot like that, it won't be for a loooong time. Their biggest accomplishment right now (to my knowledge) is a Japanese cyborg that looks exactly like a human but doesn't think on its own, and some kind of furry animal thing with simple AI that can tell Elmo from Cookie Monster.

Am I the only one reminded of the Futurama episode with the Lucy Liu-bot?

Okay, that article totally creeped me out. I'm sure the sex would be fantastic (after all, it's programmed that way) but you can't be in love with something that isn't... well... human. It's the ultimate form of one-sided love. A robot can never love you back. It's artifical intelligence. It's artificial emotions. It would be so boring. Part of the spice of relationships is the contant ups and downs.

Why the hell would I want to spend the rest of my life knowing that if I said, "Honey, I love you", the response would be an automatic, "I love you, too"? Well, okay, so that's not different from most guys. But seriously. If I were feeling tired one night and my husband told me he would just have sex with his robot, well, he wouldn't be having sex for a long time with anything.

I've read books where humanity is over-run with robots. With this concept, it's not so far-fetched. I'm sure these robots look and act human, and if that rocks your socks, good for you. But the idea totally freaks me out, and I will never do it with a male that can be programmed to get it on more than two or three times in a row.

reminds me of this manga called Absolute Boyfriend.
I wouldn't mind if I were to marry it if it were Night from the manga. I would really marry it if I loved it.

However, sex with a robot seems weird..

I agree with Aiiyame. D:

If it was something like Absolute Boyfriend, I definetly would not mind. <3

But other than that, it would suck.

I saw it in the newspaper and I was like; WTF!?
I can't imagine myself being in love with a robot.
I mean...
>.<"
It's so silly.
It's not like robots actually have feelings.
I mean... D:
>.<"
I'll shut up now.
It's just plain stupid.
Humans are waaay better than robots. ;3

I don't really think it's right... I mean it's programed to think a certain way, just things to make the person feel reasured. I mean if that's what some people need, by all means get one xD But I would never recomened actually marrying a robot. I mean does it actually have feelings? Would be my first question. In my opinion marrage shouldn't happen unless the two are in love with eachother. it shouldn't be a one way thing :3

xD
