Okay! Is there anybody else who is thoroughly disgusted with Maiko? Their relationship has to be the lamest, cheesiest, corniest relationship ever!
They kiss like, every time they finish going through a crappy dialogue! It's the most boring garbage ever!
The thing about Zutara is, we all KNOW that would be an exciting, heated, intense, dramatic, passionate pairing! Zuko and Katara in a relationship would make Avatar more amazing than it already is! It's that sort of scandalized, complex love between two highly diverse individuals that people crave in this kind of show!
Kataang has also been far too abundant in Season three thus far, I see it so much I feel like wretching! Aang still acts like such a small child! He's like my eight year old brother! We Zutarians have been denied ANY moments in Season 3, while the cornball ships like Maiko and Kataang just keep on developing!

But wait! I have noticed something of great interest, to Zutarians, that is! I think it was episode 2: the headband, but it may have been episode 3: The Painted Lady, I'm not totally sure! Anyways, Zuko and Mai go through some crappy dialogue about how Mai hates orange and Zuko says she's beautiful, then they make out a lot, which I wretched at, and THEN! Azula shows up, and says she needs to speak to Zuko! Zuko says, "Can't you see I'm busy?" and then makes out with Mai more *eye twitches*, and then Azula says to Mai, "Mai, Ty Lee's got a knot in her braid and she needs your help getting it loose,"
Mai says, "That sounds bad," and gets up to go, when she passes Azula, they both glance at each other out of the corner of their eyes, and exchange wicked, suspicious smiles! eek
Now, somehow I've managed to twist that one gesture into this theory:
Mai and Azula have some sort of arrangement entailing Mai dating Zuko! I don't know what their plan is, but it is going to spell the end of Maiko when it is revealed! Thus bringing hope back to us Zutarian masses!
That is my theory anyways... redface

smut? when has there been smut?

Or have I been spared by not looking for it? xD;
about your theory:

I don't know, I rather had the feeling that Mai was being angry at Azula for disturbing them, but because Mai knows how Azula is, she didn't argue at the obvious lie about Ty Lee. So that glance Mai gave Azula might have been a form of rebelling against the princess.
And Azula being Azula, noticed the semi-glare.

I am sorry to say this, but I do think that Zuko seems to be in love with Mai. I chose the word "seem" cautiously, because in the Avatar mag it looked like he would have let her return to the Firenation without a second thought, but as Azula mentions the possibility that Iroh might not survive the trip back home, he suddenly has a change of heart. This leads to two assumptions that can be made: Zuko returned for Iroh, not Mai. He would have abandoned her, thus his love is not true.

At the moment he is content with having her, because he believes that she loves him for who he is, but if we think about it, she doesn't, because he himself isn't sure of who he is. Katar knows more about him, than Mai does. And eventhough there have been more hints (Okay if it's not that subtle anymore, we can't call them "subtle" xD) at Kataang and Tokka, who says that after Zuko comes to his senses and when he searches for redemption (which he definetly will according to Mike and Bryan) he won't turn to Katara? Or that she isn't the one who can give it to him?

Don't be so pessimistic, it's only the beginning of the season, and knowing Mike and Bryan, they'll lay out false trails for us. And above all, Avatar is not about shipping, it's about the show. We would be exactly what we've prided us not to be: crazy shipping maniaxs who throw tantrums because our pairing seems to have been terminated.

But... but... I am a crazy shipping maniac! xd
And yeah, the redemption thing is good, it is a possibility he'll get help from Katara.
Hm.. I think I've been warping the last few episodes about in my mind, because I'm in a terrible state of denial about all of the Maiko and Kataang, so half of the stuff I said before was just delusional rambling! whee
Ah jeeze... good ol' delusional rambling...

Ok, while I'll admit that the Maiko and Kataang was hard for me too, I'll tell you this:

It's not going to last.

First, let's look at Kataang. Aang loves Katara, we know that much. But what about Katara? Do you really think that she returns the feeling? From what I've seen thus far in the show, I haven't seen any hard, sure evidence that she does. Besides that, Katara is so much more of a motherly type to Aang. Sure, The Headband had a lot of Kataang, even Katara blushing at him, but at the end of the day, where did she kiss him? just on the cheek, like she always does. And then, with the last two episodes, it has simmered down a lot.
I also think that the Kataang heaviness in the Headband was partially Katara still feeling lost and confused and angry about Zuko's betraying her. Aang was showing her a good time, and she was glad to take it and get her mind on other things.

Maiko, really, what more can I say that hasn't already been said? Mai and Zuko seem to be into each other, but are they really? Mai might be, but it isn't deep enough for her to truly care about Zuko's turmoil, as seen in the Awakening. And we know that Zuko is still as confused as ever, he's still trying to figure himself out, He doesn't know yet who he is, or what he wants. Zuko may be clinging to Mai, but it's not the real Zuko who's around her. The real Zuko is a wounded, misguided soul who is trying desperately to figure out what he really wants out of life, and who his loyalty really lies with. He needs some one to heal him, not just to make out with.
Isn't it kind of suspicious that Zuko is the one with a scar, and Katara has the healing powers?
wink

It is indeed only the beginning, we still have 16 whole episodes to go. And there are always plot twists in this show, right? It's part of the story to have these types of bumps in the road, that's how the characters develop. It isn't going to happen right away. Character development and quality story is something I really love Avatar for. It's so rare for american made cartoons.

Wow. All three of you have had awesome points about the season 3.

The thing I dislike about the series so far is... it's WAY to obvious. Now I, for one, would hope they wouldn't make the pairs so obvious. D:
Which is why I am ALSO thinking that this won't last.
Now, I know that Avatar isn't a shojo series, but this kind of thing can be pretty common in some Shojo series. The girl will start off with one guy, and everyone will be POSITIVE she'll stay with him...and then BAM! Something will happen, and she'll eventually end up with the underdog.
>D I'm hoping this will happen in Avatar.

Plus...Aang is...so immature.
.___.;; I really have issues imagining Katara with him...just because she's so mature and refined at times. I do also agree with Sheba in the sense that Katara only has motherly feelings for Aang. I mean..if they really really were so into each other...I think there would have been an attempted mouth to mouth kiss somewhere in there.

Yeah, I have a lot of problems just picturing Aang and Katara together in romantic ways too...It's actually that way for Molly and Jordan of OSR, as well, Da-eh wink
I can't place it, I just...can't see it.

She is indeed a lot more mature than he is, it just doesn't seem plausible to me, you know, besides the Motherly-friendly type stuff that I've already listed...

And well, there was the Cave of Two Lovers...Which was kind of suggested by Katara(who in all fairness was just looking for a way for them all to get out of the cave...) But...I see more hinting at Zutara in that episode than Kataang. It's hidden, sorta, while the Kataang is out in the open, but it's there. Two lovers, different culture/peoples, seperated by war...I really only hope it isn't foreshadowing between Zuko and Katara...

I'm not a huge fan of Katara and Aang together, either. I feel Aang is too immature for her.

The story of the two lovers remeinded me alot of Zutara. That was the best part of the episode. At first I was getting sick of the Kataang hints, but when that story came up, I was very happy.

Wow. Everyone here has really good points. 3nodding

I have a little theory of my own, so please allow me ramble on a bit.

So, it's pretty obvious that, for the moment, Maiko is canon. We may not like it, but it's true. However, I think that they'll most likely break up at some point in the series. This is because I think they have different views about the war.

Mai, thanks to the brainwashing of he parents and the Fire Nation, most likely supports the war and agrees with its cause. Zuko, on the other hand, most likely disagrees with the war and all the things involved in it.

Sure, they were both raised to believe the war was good and support their nation, but I think Zuko has had more exposure to the negative sides of the war. I mean, he saw how people lived all over the Earth Kingdom, and he knows how it effects families, so why would he continue to support it? Mai, however, has lived in a ver isolated environment, and therefore hasn't had the chance to see what the war does to everyone else.

So, if Zuko were to do or say something against the war or his father, Mai could very likely get upset. It's like what happened with Katara and Jet; Jet did something he believed was good (flooding a village to rid it of the Fire Nation), but Katara disagreed and became very upset with him. The same thing could easily happen with Mako.

Plus, as far as I know, relationships that consist almost entirely of making-out don't usually last very long.

I've been sort of sparse in the regular threads, and mainly go to the Roleplay thread here, but this is my idea!

You all have something of my idea, the idea that Mike and Bryan are going to make it seem like Maiko is canon, and Kataang is canon, but somehow are going to switch things up a bit, and in a way that I REALLY want to see, Zutara ends up canon. I didn't notice in Cave of Two Lovers all the Zutara hints. All I saw(And groaned and moaned about the whole episode) was the Kataang hints. But I can't go all in depth about it, because for me, I want to see personally what Mike and Bryan have in store for us Zutarians, and if we're wrong, well, our theories will be false. And no, I'm not being mean, honest, I just like seeing where things will go.

My ramble moment! Thankies for reading!

Maiko seems like a high school romance. Simple dating and making out. Just because they're together now doesn't mean they'll stay together forever.

Agreed. If they never actually talk to each other, chances are the relationship won't last.
