so what do you generally prefer, in anime and foreign television shows/movies,
that they be subbed (subtitles) or dubbed?

I called her on the phone and she touched herself... This goes for all types.. not just anime but other movies as well I rather have to read subtitles. The dubbed in voices never match the character and the emotion in the voice is usually a bit off, too.
Edit: This totally reminds me of a movie I watched quite awhile back called Bon Cop Bad Cop. It was literally half in French and half in English. We had to turn on translated subtitles but it was such a good movie. xD ...I laughed myself to sleep.

Dance with me below crystal knives... Well I usually listen to subbed but that's because they usually have more episodes to start with then we do. And then I grow accustomed to their voices and yeah xD
So I usually just like subs more. Although some dubs I like. =]...We'll dance in fear of our own lives.

I prefer subbed over dubbed.
Though there's some exceptions.

It really depends on who does the dub. If it's by 4Kids, I'll take a sub sandwich, please.

Generally I watch the subbed versions. But there are some exceptions such as Pokemon and Digimon and Yugioh such that I've been listening to in English for too long that I'm more used to it dubbed than subbed.

For me, it depends on how well the dub is done. For example, I thought the English dub for Full Metal Alchemist to be better than its original and 99% of Korean dubs are just as good as the original Japanese version.
