STORY

The mark of the 21st century passed only moments ago, it seems. But it is the year 2007. Why do the moments pass so quickly? Current events loose their luster and are soon added to the history books, forgotten in some dusty library. Those Y2K children are learning their times tables. Weren't they taking their first breaths just yesterday? As this generation grows older and older, aging without thought, we too become history.

In a timeless corner of the world rests a seemingly ancient mansion. No one is alive to remember its story, nor does anyone want to. There is a mysterious air about the everlasting, archaeic trees, the dancing shadows from within, the rumors of anyone who enters disappearing for good. The quiet, old folks of the community just push the house under the rug, pretending it doesn't exist.

There was at least one person interested. Kate Thomson, another blemish whom the community tried to ignore, entered the mansion one day in late May. She has not returned since. Good riddance.

PLOT

Discover the mystery of the ageless mansion for yourself. What secrets lie behind its majestic doors? What truths does it hold for you? What worlds wait to be explored?

If anyone was curious, this idea was inspired by the song Memories by Within Temptation. I reccomend listening to it. It's quite the ear candy, and it really gets you in the right mood for this kind of RP.

MANSION RULES

1. As it has been previously stated, once you enter, you cannot leave. This is not to say there isn't a way to get out, but it has to be found. And here's the thing: do you want to get out?

2. I'm sorry, but this isn't a haunted mansion. That's not my aim. I'm try to open doors to the past. I'm not limiting this to any particular time period, so it leaves a lot of free reign.

3. I was purposely vague when describing the interrior of the mansion. Actually, I wasn't vague. I didn't describe it at all. By not describing it, I allow room for your own personal creativity, i.e, everyone can describe different parts of it and different quirks it has.

RP RULES
ignore the title in the RP RULES section. It is a decoy to see if you read the rules. The real one is Lila's Licorice
1. Follow Gaia ToS
2. Profiles must be PMed to me
3. My word is law: obey it, love it, live by it
4. I have the authority to override any descriptions of the mansion (i.e, I really don't want someone finding Dr. Frankenstein and his little hunch-backed helper in the basement, okay?)
5. Posts must be grammatically correct, spelling must be superb, and vocabulary must be colorful. Length, I'm not so picky. Quality, you bet your arse I am.
6. Which brings me to the next point. Intelligent swearing is adored. If you stub your toe on a brick, you aren't going to say, "Oh, jolly gee, that hurt." That ruins the effect. Something realistic, like, "s**t!" See? Gaia's even nice enough to put stars in for the kiddies.
7. I am the authority, not you. Believe me, if there is someone breaking the rules, they are going to get booted out.
8. Highlight the rules to find a surprise.
9. Activeness is appreciated. I allow for a max of 3 days between posts before I start to get grumpy.
10. Dumb characters are not welcome. Ignorant, yes. Unaware, yes. Flat out dumb, no. Don't worry, hon. I'll let you know if you fit the bill.
11. I am the only one allowed to criticize others' posts.
12. Title your profile PM to me Hugo's Hotdogs.
13. At any point in time, I may add more rules. I will state that I have done so in the post after the change, and you are expected to immediately check the new rules.
14. Have fun.
15. You may be up to 3 characters. No pets, please. Humans only.
16. No text talk, whatsoever. If you want to say something to another person, compliment their avi, etc, do so in a PM.
17. I require a sample of your RPing skills.
18. Any posts that do not include or revolve your main character are to be in dark blue.
19. I may be adding a few pre-made characters for the sake of the story. PM me if you want to be one of them with a sample of your RPing skills, but no profile.

"Did you here about that Thomson girl?"

"No. What happened?"

Two old women sat under the roof of the wooden porch, exchanging gossip and drinking iced tea. They had been chatting about much more pleasant, yet less juicy topics until this point. Now, the air became grave. Both rocking chair's constant creaking slowed. From the woman's tone of voice, the other knew exactly what had happened to the girl.

"She went into the house." It was not a question.

The other nodded solemnly, breaking eye contact. It was an uncomfortable topic. Well, it was uncomfortable talking about the Thomson family on a normal day, let alone a day when something happened to their strange child.

Oddly enough, the woman who had just spoken let out an amused chuckle. She recieved a blank look, and explained, "Everyone knew it was going to happen one day. That girl was too abnormal to make it. A cur."

"Yes," her friend agreed slowly, as if it pained her. "But still... such a young, beautiful girl. Someone should go after her, Gladys."

The old woman named Gladys guffawed, her second chin shaking wiht the movement. Her intelligent eyes flicked up in annoyance at the sincerity of the suggestion. "Who would go? No one liked that disturbance. At least, not enough to risk disappearing in that house. Why, are you volunteering yourself?"

The old woman looked panicked at the taunt. Quickly, she said, "No, no, of course not. I just think it's a shame to waste such youth. Do you remember when you were a child?"

Gladys looked carefully at her friend, trying to sense a trap. Finding no hostility, she sighed and responded, "Hardly. All I recall is getting whacked with a ruler in school by the school master. Well, at least I don't have a lisp anymore. And yourself?"

"I remember a few things," the old woman replied, her eyes becoming distant. "I remember when we moved here; I was five. I remember the Oldman boy daring me to go into the house. I opened the door, but that's as far as I got. Inside, I could almost feel... something alive. I remember him calling me a coward, but then not going inside either. Did that ever happen to you?"

"Of course," Gladys snapped, "it's a local tradition. Every kid in this area has at least been dared once to go into the house. Only the few stupid ones, Marge, actually go in." She settled into the back of her chair, and resumed the normal rocking pace. Shutting her eyes, she murmured, "You know about my brother, right? He went in. Never saw him again. Did you know today would be his hundred and second birthday?"

Marge nodded, even though Gladys couldn't see it. "I remember Roger vaguely. He was a handsome boy. A tad arrogant, since your daddy was so rich, but kind-hearted nonetheless."

They both fell silent, drawing back into the confines of their own thoughts. A gust of wind sent up a flurry of dead leaves, and caused Marge to wrap her shawl around tighter, shivering slightly. Although, she was unsure if it was really the wind's fault.

Darkness had settled, casting giant shadows throughout the vaulted main hall of the mansion. Upon the musty, Persian rug sat Kate Thomson, who had been pounding on the double front doors feebly for the past half-hour. She knew it was utterly hopeless to try and get out: she knew the rumors, just like everyone else. Except, she had been fool enough to dismiss them. Dejectedly, she lowered her hand from the door, choosing to lean against it and think for a moment.

Surely, someone would come looking for her. She had left home in such a storm that her father was probably still pissed. Like always. Kicking the duffel bag at her foot, she let out a pent-up groan, blowing up on her bangs.

Kate hadn't dared to explore the massive mansion yet. She feared getting lost. Just from the entrance way, she could see seven different hallways leading in seven different directions. They seemed to stretch forever, an innumerous number of doors lining the walls. Safely sitting there seemed the preferable solution. But something was peaking her interest, making her want to go off and explore. Faintly, from down the hallway directly to her left, she could hear the hints of classical music.

Slowly, Kate rose to her feet and started walking down the hall, leaving her bag behind. Perhaps there was someone else here. There had to be. How else could there be music, CD or otherwise?

Ray had been exploring the dusty mansion for little over an hour he guessed. He was truely fascinated by the place. It's size was far greater than it had appeared outside, but oddly enough his watch had stopped moving after the large double doors had shut behind him, sealing him in. He had given up on the door after fifteen minutes, instead exploring the mind boggling mansion. He found a suit of armor, made of pure gold, standing in one of the hallways. It looked as if it had been untouched by time, as if it were more of a photo than a real solid objects. He quickly scratched at it, to make sure it was real gold but he put too much force on the suit and it came crashing to th ground with the loudest clanking he had ever heard filling the silent halls. "********!" He shouted trying to gather it back up and place it back together.

Kate instantly picked up on a sharp crash and a curse. That definitely had to be a person. Perhaps they knew a way out. She headed down the hall, towards the sound. Looking right and left at a fork, she could not tell from which direction it had come. "Hello?" Kate called tentatively, hoping for some sort of answer.

After he had finished Ray decided he had done a horrible job. The armor's head was tilted, it's torso was bearly resting on the legs, and one gauntlet was shifted to the left slight. He sighed realizing if he tried to fix it anymore the shabby thing would just fall apart again. Apon deciding what to do next a faint echo reached his ears. Silently he pondered if this could be haunted. Quickly dismissing the thought he concluded that indeed it must be another person. He cupped his hands to his mouth before shouting as loud as he could down the halls, "Hello?!"

"Here, this way!" Kate shouted, laughing in relief. She started jogging the right fork in the hall, almost positive that the answer had come from this direction. She quickened her pace in excitement... almost running smack dab into a dead end. A wall had risen up from around the bend, cutting off and creating a dead end. Frantically, Kate pounded on the wall. "You on the other side?" she shouted, pounding louder.

Ray heard the shout and decided to stay where he was. He figured she would be heading towards him. Moments later he heard a dull thud, curious he followed the mysterious thudding to it's source. It led him to a door, curiousity getting the better of him he oppened it to reaveal a girl that he'd never seen before pounding on a stone wall. "Uh, hello?" He said not really sure what else to say at this unexpected encounter.
PostPosted: Sat Oct 13, 2007 11:51 pm

Person! were Kate's immediate thoughts. But she took a moment to compose herself to not come off as more of an idiot as she already had. In a smooth, matter-of-a-factly voice she said, "I thought I heard noise from this side of the hall. Which is why I was pounding on the wall." As soon as the words left her mouth, she felt like whacking her head on the stone wall. Whatever relief she had experienced by finally finding another human being was quickly replaced by humiliation of her inability to convey a message clearly.

"So, uh, how's it going?" Kate tried, leaning against the wall casually. "I mean, what's your name?"

"You sure sound like your a wreck. The name's Ray, last name irrelevent." He said holding out his hand for her to shake it, a little bemused by the condition she was in. "What a place to meet in." He added, not knowing anyone had even been here for ages, by what he could tell from his observations.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 14, 2007 8:29 am

Without thinking, Kate held out the incorrect hand to shake. Naturally, of course. Sighing at her own stupidity, she muttered, "Sorry, I'm a lefty." Deciding it would be more convenient to just forget a handshake, she dropped her hand heavily and said, "I know right? How long you been here? Not too long, right?"

"Oh, uh, my bad then."He said pulling hand back and instead began scratching the back of his head with it. Well, what an awkward meeting. He thought to himself before answering her question. "Well I don't know for sure. You see, my watch cmpletely stopped moving when I arrived here. I can't have been stuck much more than an hour, possibly an hour and a half."
PostPosted: Sun Oct 14, 2007 10:08 am

Well, at least he hadn't been trapped for too long. That made sense, since she hadn't heard of anyone disappearing into the mansion recently. And news traveled like wild fire in the community, so anything of that sort would have reached her ears within several hours of it happening.

"So, your watch stopped moving, huh?" she asked conversationally. "Did it run out of battery or something?"

"It's a new watch I don't think the battery would be out already." He said sighing, not knowing what else to say on the matter. What a wierd place... He thought so himself, taking his hand from the back of his head and placing it in his right pocket. "So uh... what about you? How long have you been trpped in here? I presume the doors wouldn't open for you either." He asked the stange girl. He then realized something she hadn't even introduced herself! "Hey, uh, You never gave me your name..."
