and I'm so damn nervous... Well not really... I'm just not sure how I should approach it... Like what song should I choose for my singing audition... I remember hearing once a long time ago that it is a BAD idea to sing a song from the show your auditioning for as your audition.... but I've had like 5 people tell me I should do that.... but then again they aren't theatre people...
so uh.... what song should I sing for an audition for Jesus Christ Super Star? xd

hey. ive been in a few musicals now and i remember the first time i auditioned. i was rlyl nervous at first but i agve ti my all and did rlly good. it seems more scarey thinking about it then accually doing it. so dont wrry. its not all htat scary. its alot of fun. and for your song....hmm....well im not exactly familiar with the play your doing but you could sing a song form it. but only a song you know really well. and if you dont kno any of the songs form it, you could sing one of your favorite songs. or a song that is in your voice range. make sure you sing it with enthusism, and dont look affraid. its ok to be nervous, but its alot of fun, and if you can go an audtion and not look nervous or act it, 9 times out of ten you'll get in. so hope this helps. and break a leg biggrin

First question, is this for high school or community theatre?
My main advice is don't sing a song from the show you're auditioning for. I've made that mistake far too many times and it's basically an audition killer.
Just pick a song you KNOW you can sing WELL. Make sure it fits comfortably in your range, but still shows off your voice a bit.
They might ask you to dance a bit, like set up a little routine and see if you can repeat some simple steps (always a killer for me) but maybe not.
Be sure you bring a resume in case they ask for one, and a headshot probably wouldn't hurt either.
Most importantly, relax! Have fun.
Best wishes!

I'm totally lurking in this thread. I've got Grease auditions (Community Theatre) in a week or less and my stomach feels like a volcano already. D:
I've got some problems too, if anyone could help me- I didn't want to make a new thread. (If I'm supposed to, I will.)
I've only been in school productions so far- a lot of them, and I'm in an audition-based advanced Theatre class well known to the Community Theatre, so I've got that going.
This is what the website says about auditions: Everybody who auditions will need to sing, dance and act. However, no previous training or experience in these areas is needed. For Song Audition: Prepare 16 bars of a song from of your choice (it is recommended that you prepare a song that is also written in the pop-style). Bring sheet music in your key. Song selection will be your initial acting audition as well as the singing audition, so choosing a character song with dramatic content will be helpful. No acapella auditions allowed. An accompanist will be provided. For Dance Audition: Performers are asked to wear comfortable clothes and to be prepared to learn a short dance routine that will be performed with a group during the audition.
I've been in two musicals already, so I'll be okay on singing, but I don't know what pop song to use for Grease. Any advice would be helpful. Any dancing advice would be cool too, I'm not a spectacular dancer, especially on the spot.
Um, and this is a ridiculous question, but what is sixteen bars? All my music had been chosen for me for the other two musicals, and I can't read music. (Which does not, surprisingly, hinder my audition or anything.)
I'm sorry this is long, any advice would be much loved.
