I realized the other day, that though I don't splurge on alot of things, I have this insane need to look through used books. I like to borrow them from the library, but for some reason, finding a book I have read and loved is like finding an old friend. So how about you. Do you need more room for book shelves? Do you like buying new, or used? (Or can you restrain yourself to only borrow?)

I totally need more room... sweatdrop
but I Usually buy new, or high quality used, and the used ones are only because they're old (like 1920's and stuff). but i get new Because of the New Book Smell.

I prefer new books because I'm OCD and very particular about the condition in which my books are kept. I will buy used books, but only if they are in good condition. I hate borrowing books cause that means I have to give them back.

I love used books! cheep, cheerful and pre-loved! So long as they are still readable I think any slight damages just add personality!

If I'm going to own something, I prefer new, so it lasts longer. If I'm near a good used book store, I might browse anyway, because there are so many things I'd love to have that are out of print.
I mostly borrow from work, because it saves me money and storage space.

I borrow books, from the library or my friends... However, sometimes I like the book so much, I just have to get it. Even though I read it already, I still want to have my own, nice, new copy. o_O I even want to get another hard cover copy of eldest.. >< Am I weird or something, spending all my allowance like that?

I tend to buy new books when I can but I love to go look for old used books. Especially the ones that are like fifty years old. They are the best and they smell so good!

I'm all for saving the environment and whatnot by buying used books and not wasting paper, but I really do enjoy buying my own new book. Oh, and I do borrow books, but I usually eventually buy them because I love to own the books I've read. Just in case I want to find something in it, or read it again or I don't know.

However, I don't really like having very old books (40+ years), because I don't like the thought of lessening the value. I do try to be careful with my books, but I re-read my favorites so much that they just accumulate wear and tear.

I get what I can, I don't care if it's used, new, or borrowe, as long as it's in pretty good condition, I'm okay! 3nodding

I used to go to the library alot but now I mostly go for the used booksales which in fact, there's one this up coming week smile One of my neighbors and I every now and then when I have money, we go to used bookstores. I spent $85 once at one used bookstore. I try to wait until my bills are paid for the month. I might go in November, extra week of pay and also it'll probably be one of the last times before the weather gets bad. I'll probably be ordering more stuff off the net over the colder parts of the winter, it'll make it worthwhile smile
I still buy new books, just mostly Star Wars and others for series that are harder to find in used shops. Just recently got the new Death Star book for SW, it was pretty good

I love to buy used books, but I usually don't have the finances for such purchases nowadays. Even browsing the used bookshops I have become picky and only buy authors I trust, books I'm familiar with, or something that sounds really interesting. Any uncertainties will be covered with borrowing from the library.

I much prefer new books, but I can buy used books en masse from the library.... so I buy a box full of books and records for about $10 rather than a paperback for a little more.
