Sairin plodded onto the pridal lands calmly, eyes darting to and fro as he studied the savannah, tracking the small female lioness he wanted a word with. His bulkly black form stood out against the yellow, and he towered over the Savannah.
Sairin knew he was hard to miss, but he didn't care. Just get the female alone....

Kabichi slid along marrily, padding through the lands with a full belly and good thoughts. The wildebeest she'd managed to find trapped had been tasty, and now she had leftovers in her den, a happy, happy thing, and she'd take part of her first big kill to Mut and another part to others later. The lioness licked her chops, and padded to the watering hole to watch the wild dogs play. They'd grown accustomed to her by now, and she'd even played a bit with the white one, a deed she took up after meeting Bodaway. She cared so for her adopted father. Her black rimmed ears swivelled and she looked up to see the massive form of Sairin padding her way, and she smiled, padding to see what Shin's uncle wanted.

Sairin watched the female quietly, and sat, allowing her to approach. When she was close, he bowed his head, and studied her a minute.
".....You wish to mate my nephew."
Kabichi opened her mouth in surprise, asking how he knew, but Sairin rose, frowing to answer.
"It's in your eyes. Your demeanor. But tell me. Will you be capable of protecting him if his father or those like him come again?"
Sairin studied the female, waiting for an answer....

Kabichi blinked, then nodded slowly.
"Yes. I will protect him."
She squared her shoulders, watching Sairin study her intently. Was he sizing her up? She was small--would he approve? She knew family approval was important....

Sairin frowned, then rose, suddenly unsheathing his claws and swung at the female. It wasn't a full strength attack, he wouldn't KILL the female, but he had a point he wanted proven....
"THEN SHOW ME!"

Kabichi squealed in alarm, knocked back roughly by the swat, the wild dogs scattering as she rolled to her feet in confusion. Another blow was coming and this time she danced aside. She didn't WANT to fight Sairin-- he was Shin's FAMILY, and she didn't want to fight... The larger lion left her no choice, however, and the female began to try to dodge, to seek an exit, anything.
The larger lion advanced, fangs bared as he lunged and Kabichi jumped aside, ears pricking unhappily. Another massive paw came for her, and she suddenly leapt back, trying to remember how to fight....
She suddenly snarled, her mother's lessons returning fresh in her mind, and she unleashed a suprisingly loud roar, and lunged, using her size to avoid his claws. Not to say he didn't connect, he did so frequently, and the force was suprisingly harsh, but Kabichi fought SMART, aiming for what she could to cause harm.

Sairin reared a bit, and swiped the much smaller female with his claws angrily, sending her flying back once more. The lion snarled, moving in, then stopped, seeing her face, suddenly registering her form. She was hurt, and she would live, but if he'd continued.... Or even fought with his full force...
The lion shook. Toshiro had struck his mother. His nephew. He had struck his Nephew's mate, he hadn't been happy with her word... He'd given in to violence, and he was.... He was...
No better than Toshiro, and in no way fit to be his mother's son.
He was quiet, watching the female a minute. He knew she'd protect Shin. HE was the fool, the coward, the weakling....
Ever so slowly, he dropped his head, the necklace from his mother sliding off as he lifted it, and carefully placed it on the female's neck.
"I'm sorry...."
The male bowed shamefully, and the once-proud guardian turned, moving away, his form seeming to shrink with the weight of his guilt.

Kabichi blinked, eying the Hyena bones a bit before slowly rising. She didn't understand, but she understood. Sairin had been worried for Shin... Why was he upset by this?
Slowly, the female stood on all fours, looking at the bones she now wore, rich with the scent of Sairin and the lion before him to own it. Confusedly, she turned, padding to return to the Pride, and her den, to rest, and seek Shin for answers.
