Practice everyday in school, you understand me! If you don't you'll have to take four hours of practice with me. And don't think I won't find out, because I assure you I can see through lies.

~Sincerely, Sofiya 'Baba' Inoue

That's what the note written by an old woman filled with mud in her heart wrote to her. She was standing still in front of a black grand piano, located within one of the many unused music rooms the school provided. This music room wasn't very far from the music room The Host Club used for their activities. Since when was 'hosting' considered a club activity. What were they trying to do, sell themselves off as prostitutes?

Either way it didn't matter to Tarii. What did matter was that Baba was killing her with these piano lessons. Ever since they began Tarii has been wearing fingerless gloves to make sure no one saw the bruises on her hands. Luckily the school didn't mind it once Baba herself told the school what was going on.

That didn't mean she liked it though. Infact the sour old woman made Tarii incredibly upset. Tarii would always try and feign sickness to get out of it, but sad enough it never worked. And when she was sick Baba didn't buy it either and she would be forced to practice, sneezing every fifteen minutes.

So here she was, staring at the grand piano before her. She was suppose to practice right? Well why not, she didn't have much to do anyways. Sighing Tarii gently took her place on the piano bench, noticing someone had already put up the dashboard. She looked down at the perfectly white keys, as if the piano had never been touched, and smiled. There was this one song that she already learned how to play quite quickly.

Placing her fingers at the correct keys she took out the music sheet in her head and started to play the opening melody to the song. She just hoped no one would see her. Tarii was fearless but hated being the center of attention.

Satu sighed, running his hand though his now pink streaked hair. He had had a tough enough day at school. As if he didn't stand out enough already, with his height and hair colour but now the pink streaks were drawing even more attention to himself and Satu hated every minute of it. Even now as he was walking to the music room students around him would stop and stare at him or whisper to each other as he passed. So he clutched his violin case harder with his long elegent hands and quicked his pace to the music room, his face covered with a pink tinge.

The blond haired boy half ran into the music room, leaning against the door, trying to calm himself. He was half tempted to just go home and try to dye the pink streaks out again but if he did he felt like he was cheating on his dare. It would also prove to the people who were staring at him that the pointing had actually gotten to him and he didn't want them to have that satisfaction.

Next thing music filled his ears. He opened his blue eyes to see that he wasn't alone on the music room. He looked at the girl playing the piano, recognising her instantly as Tarii, whom he had met in the mall all that time ago.

Satu descided to just stand thre, by the door, instead of disturbing the girl mid song. As a musician himself he disliked being interupted while he was playing. But more importantly he wanted to her Tarii play. Instantly Satus cultures ears could hear that was an amature but she was very good for an amature. Satu closed his eyes again, letting the music paint pictures in his mind. He probably would look slightly deranged to anyone else who were to see him but he really didn't care anymore. He was sick of people staring at him.

Tarii sighed inwardly, finishing the first part of the opening melody. This part was always the hardest, but if Baba had taught her anything was that she had to take it like a man. Even if she was a girl. Focusing back to the keys Tarii blinked and started to play out the song. As soon as she got to the cue she felt compelled to sing for one reason or another.

Somewhere being far away.
A voice is audible.
To a method which calls name in the darkness
Facing. When nothing.
Is visible simply.
The lap which holds it and crouches.
From insecurity and loneliness this place it is slow.
The hand grasping easily.
It started accompanying.

To the person who light inserts
Now it begins walking
Because there are some which it protects
Its accustomed strongly
Whatever kind of pain and what kind of trouble
Its accepted certainly,
Therefore its all right.
As for voice of you
Being audible from the bend.

As she sang the song the melody of the piano keys followed her playing like both were in sync. She certainly wasn't the best player yet, but she knew that she could get better. Of course if it was up to her she wouldn't even play piano. Or at least she would get a much more efficient teacher than Baba.

You did not understand until now directly.
The mosquito which you
Gave and believes.
The air which also this request does reach.
It adjusts both hands and simply prays.
As for the person however
There's also a thing which hurts.
Directly and time which can
Be laughed comes because.

To the person who light inserts
Now it begins walking
Because there are some which it protects
Its accustomed strongly
Whatever kind of pain and what kind of trouble
Its accepted certainly,
Therefore its all right
As for voice of you
Being audible from the bend.

You're weakening at the time of the bend.
Because comparatively I become strong,
There is no need to worry.

To the person who light inserts
You probably walk together
Because there are some which it protects
It can keep on living.
Your pain and whatever kind of trouble
You can get through entirely.
Without crying anymore,
As for voice of you.

To the person who light inserts
You probably walk together
Because there are some which it protects
It can keep on living.
Your pain and whatever kind of trouble
You can get through entirely.
Without crying anymore,
As for voice of you.
The audible bend.

She quietly stopped singing, finishing off with the closing melody to the song. It took her about a week but she learned the song quickly on the piano than she expected since she knew the song's rhythm by heart. She didn't like Ai very much as an overall artist but she simply adored the song and it's heartwarming lyrics.

At least no one heard her play and sing at the same time. She would have been completely embarrassed if someone did see her playing.

((If you want to listen to the song yourself heres a link to it. I just gave you the English lyrics but you can find the romaji ones by looking up google~))

Satu listened intently to the song. He was surpriced, after all he didn't know that Tarii played the piano, she hadn't really expressed much interest in music when he had been talkign to her. It was true that it had never really come up in conversation before but it was still a slight shock to Satu. But the one think Satu simply couldn't get over was her voice. Her singing voice was simply amazing. Every note was perfectly in pitch, every word perfectly defined. Her voice soft and sweet but with power and strenght. It simply blew Satu away.

When the song had finished Satu opened his eyes, still not daring to move for a few seconds incase she was going to sing something else. When he finally descided that she had truely finished he silently placed his violin case on the floor and started to walk over clapping as her went.

"Wow" he said, his rich, low voice echoing through the almost empty music room. "Miss. Tarii you're voice is amazing. I never knew you could sing." Satu walked over to the piano, placing a pale hand on the black case with a loving touch. "I mean seriously, you sing beautifully."

The Satu stopped. What if it looked like he was purpously evesdropping? It always embaressed Satu when someone would come into the music room while he was playing. "I'm very sorry for intruding" he then muttered, looking down at the piano, his face turning red. "I didn't know there was someone in here and I didn't want to go and wander the halls again..." he trailed off.

Tarii smiled slightly as the song finished off in her head. Of course what she heard next was something she was hoping to avoid. First the soft sound of a case being put down on the floor and then the sound of someone's hands clapping. Her eyes trailed to the entrance of the room to see Satu. She barely recognized him with the pink strips of hair he now accommodated, but that didn't make her any less embarrassed that he caught her singing.

"S-Satu!" She stuttered out, embarrassed herself. Was she so indulged in playing and singing that she didn't even notice him come into through the door?!

She quickly stood up from the bench, hoping to make a swift getaway from the blond-pink haired man. Unfortunately life had a funny way of making sure someone stood exactly where they had to be. Especially when they forced it down on you- hard. As soon as Tarii got up the dashboard that would usually cover the piano keys reacted from the change in weight of her fingers and to put it shortly- collapsed on Tarii's fingers.

A cry of anguish poured from Tarii's voice as the cover banged down on her fingers just about as hard as Baba's cane would whack her fingers with every wrong note. "So the demon gets her idea of the black cane from this? Annoying but quite clever." Tarii whispered under her breath, making sure Satu wouldn't hear her monologue, which heartlessly spited her cold shriveled piano instructor.

Satu watched as the girl he had tried so hard not to startled tried to get away from him. He really didn't mean to scare her, infact he had tried very hard to be as quiet as he possibly could but now that he though about it it probably wasn't the best idea to be increadibly quiet. maybe he should have knocked very loudly on the door first? But if he had done that he would have interupted her singing and he really didn't want to do that since he had wanted to listen.

Next think Satu was running over to where she was as a familiar sound of wood on ivory and flesh rang in his ears. He replaced the piano cover as quickly as he could. "Oh god I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to startle you! Are you okay? Are your fingers alright? God I'm so sorry! This is entirely my fault." Satu stuttered, his expression worried.

Tarii shuddered involuntarily as the cover was lifted off her fingers. It felt like Baba had struck her ten times all at once. There was no good feeling in it. She didn't blame Satu for it; these things happened. All she did wish was that they wouldn't happen to her so damn much. Of course that was asking for a miracle.

"Don't worry about it," she simply whispered out, not being able to feel her fingers just yet. She didn't want Satu to feel like this was his doing. He didn't know she liked playing and singing in the comfort of a private affair. "In the following order of your questions: No and No." Honesty was the best policy and she was certainly not feeling okay right now.

Her eyes stared at the instrumental death trap. She glared. That dumb piano was the bane of her current existence and she would have no greater pleasure than destroying and disposing of it for good. "Then again, I won't be okay with Baba around," she muttered to herself, staring at her fingerless gloved hands, looking at the red sore marks infecting her fingers. Looks like she wouldn't be practicing again for the next couple days.

Satu looked down at her fingers, worry strewn across his pale features. He really hadn't ment to startle her and now look what had happened? Atleast her fingers wern't broken right? Satu had heard that had happened to people whom the cover fell on. He was atleast sure that they wern't broken, she would be in even worse pain if they were.

"But...." Satu started, then descided that it was probably best not to argue with her when she was in pain. He knew that his constant apologies got on her nerves some of the time and he was equally sure she didn't need to be irritated at this moment.

Satu thought of what he could do to help her. Apologising constantly wouldn't really help in this situation so he was at a loss. After a few seconds thought and idea came to him. "How about we go to the hospital wing?" he asked her. "We could get an ice pack or two to bring down pain and swelling. Something similiar to this happened to be before, not as bad though, but I put ice packs on my fingers and it really did help." he explained kindly. He really didn't like to see the girl in pain, especialy when he half blamed himself for it.

Tarii looked at Satu, finally seeing that her eyes weren't quite deceiving in the least. His hair was still streaked pink from the garden party not too long ago and he still looked ridiculous. They seemed slightly faded though; so he must have tried to get rid of them. She would have said something on the matter but for now she was too preoccupied with something else. Maybe it was because of her fingers.

"Hospital Wing?" Tarii asked, a bit shocked from his words. It wasn't his fault. Tarii personally hated hospitals, nurse's offices or anything affiliated to medical attention. The smell was atrocious, everything was white and the pointy needles piercing through your skin.

She involuntarily shuddered and slowly nodded. "If it's only for an ice pack I guess I can deal with it."

But if they even tried to stick something in her they would regret it.

Satu sometimes seemed a little slow on the uptake but in reality he was anything but. From having so many older sisters he could easily pick up on peoples moods and reactions. The minute he said hospital wing he could feel the atmosphere of the room change. Satu instantly understood that he said something that Tarii didn't like.

"You know if your fingers are too sore I can just go and get the ice packs myself. It's no problem really." Satu said smiling. The hospital wing obviously made Tarii very uncomfortable and Satu wouldn't want her to do anything that would mak her uncomfortable.

"I'll be back in a few minutes. Sit tight okay?" Satu said striding out the door before she had a change to argue. Tarii was the kind of person who would insist of coming with him, for something like showing that she wasn't weak. If he left now she had no choice.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 22, 2007 7:23 pm

Tarii was about to imply, as Satu had suspected she would, yet when he left so suddenly she had no option but to wait. Stressing her fingers by opening the door would be a bad idea so she decided to sit tight. Of course it wasn't easy. She hated hospitals but she hated her pride even more. It would always do this, even though she obviously had such a fear of medical equipment that Satu could even see through her.

While he was gone she could only stare at that black death trap. That scoundrel Baba had done her no good upon arrival. Missing a key was the equivalence of losing a finger it seemed. Her mother and Mazuka obviously saw this but her dad was so intent on keeping Baba. If he had her so long ago then was she nicer? Then again whenever she saw those two Baba would yell and hit her father with that demon cane. Why was such an abusive teacher employed?

It can't be help I suppose. Tarii thought grimly, taking off her white fingerless gloves. She stared at the red marks that scabbed her hands, wondering when they would heal. Those gloves were uncomfortable in such a warm environment.

Satu walked as quickly as he could, his ears pricking for footsteps behind him. He wouldn't be surpriced if Tarii had descided to follow him out the door but in the end his abruptness seemed to work. "Good" Satu smuttered to himself with a sigh. He was worried that he had come on way to strong. But on the otherhand he wouldn't be much of a gentleman if he had her go to the hospital wing, when it was very obvious that she hated it. Satu sighed again. He'd probably pay for this eventually but hopefully she would understand that he was doing this for her own good.

He walked into the hospital wing and explained to the nurse why he needed two ice packs and why the person who needed them wasn't here right now. She seemed very suspicious of him but gave them to him in the end.

Satu promptly strode back into the music room as fast as he could but he also made sure that he didn't look like he rushed. He didn't want to look like he was too put out from almost running to the hospital wing and back. He walked back into the music room seeing that Tarii was still sitting on the piano stool. Satu walked over to her, his face ever so slightly flushed from his running. "Hopefully these should ease the pain slightly." he said placing the ice packs down on her fingers. "You seem to have bruised them before..." Satu commented, looking down at her red fingers. !Has this happened before?"
PostPosted: Fri Jan 04, 2008 8:00 pm

Tarii's eyes sadly scanned back from her fingers to Satu's face as he placed the cold ice pack over her fingers. She sighed wearily, suddenly exhausted from everything. Even though she's only in Class B it doesn't mean they don't work her to the bone. It makes her feel a little sick actually. Having that demon Baba around doesn't help in the least bit either.

"Afraid so," she muttered, looking away from Satu, too embarrassed to even look at the blonde. "My father hired his old music teacher to teach me piano and...well let's just say her discipline methods are both barbaric and archaic."

Seriously, hitting her with a yard stick on her fingers. What was she? In a fifth grade Catholic School?! Like that mattered to her dad though. Baba still treated him like dirt and he /loves/ the woman. Well not as much as he probably loves Rena, but he certainly ardors the old hag.

Satu smiled warmly at Tarii. "Well if it makes you feel any better I think you played quite wonderfully. But I don't agree with her teaching methods thats for sure. I mean there really is no need to do that to you." he said looking worridly down at her finger. They were purple. "I'm really sorry for adding to the pain though."

Then Satu thought of something. "Say if she hurts you because you're doing it wrong maybe I could help teach you the pieces in advance? That when when its time for piano lessons you wont make as many mistakes?" Satu said, sitting down beside her.

Satu really wouldn't mind teaching Tarii how to play the piano and stopping her horrible teacher doing that to her would be a serious plus.

"It really wouldn't bother me. And we have to make your fingers better somehow." he said with a worried look.
