The dying grass was the perfect cover for this lion to lay sprawled out on his back, his tan and white front paws pulled in towards his chest. He twitched his copper tail, listening to the blades rustle with the movement. It was a hot and lazy day and that meant Sumilyth wasn't about to stalk for a meal in the blazing heat.
It was on days like these that he caught himself looking back on his life, though the time was very short for him. He had been saved by a young angel and dubbed himself in a tongue that he didn't even recognize. But he didn't care about learning what his past was. Some would call it fear. He didn't know that his past would quickly be catching up with him.

The large lion Muroki waded through the long grass as if it were water, reminded of a morning no so long ago when he'd been moving through such a place. He'd looked up to find a lioness with eyes a much lusher green than the dried grass, befriended her and had fallen for her. Johari... somewhere over the last hill, resting with the others in their band.
Muroki smiled to himself as he went, humming softly some little tune he'd picked up from his maned wolf friend. He couldn't believe how lucky he was sometimes to have Jo, Kain, Laini, Safi and all the rest coming with him to revive the Clan. It was a lifetime's worth of dreams coming true. Still, for all his daydreaming now, Muroki wasn't the type to let his guard down too easy. He stopped humming the second he caught a trace of lion and paused in his tracks.
"Hello?" The Dawnwalker called.

His ear flicked several times when he heard the humming in the distance. It seemed to suddenly draw closer until he caught the scent. It seemed like home. Home? Where had that thought come from?
He rolled over and pushed up on his paws when he heard words actually break the silence. A large smile spread across his maw when he saw it was another lion. Unsure of this one's reason for being out here, he decided to play polite in case this was an angry mate that was seeking him out.
"Greetings," he said as he took one step forward. Perhaps it was best not to move too close. He was instantly shocked to see that their pelts seemed very similar. He had met a young cub that had the same resemblance. His mind seemed to be trying to grasp a hold of a time long forgotten. This might cause a headache. "Everything well?"

"Good day, stranger."
The way he used the word stranger suggested it was just a substitute for a name. Muroki smiled, keeping his stance friendly for now, though his tail tip twitched curiously. Even more so when he looked at the other male. Sandy coloured with a coppery brown mane and tail, and that marking...he too, seemed to remember a cub from long long ago. He was in a good mood and the old memory was very welcome.
"Everything's well with me and mine. I'm called Muroki." He didn't bow his head like he used to, even though Kainda wasn't hear to tell him off for what she'd term non-princely shows of respect. It was getting to be habit. Still, he offered some information as a gesture.
"Any traveler's news? I can tell you to avoid the north, there's supposed to be a nasty trio of rogue hyenas."

He felt the pain in his head increase with the mention of the other's name. He brought a paw up to his head, placing the pads to his temple. "Stranger, hmm? I call myself Sumilyth, so I am no longer a stranger to you now," he said with a hearty chuckle and a slight dip of his head.
He turned his head in the direction that Muroki had spoken of. "A trio of hyenas? I'll be sure to watch my step. Can't say that I carry any other news. I try to avoid trouble at all cost." He smile and caused the scars on his cheek to crinkle.
He could also smell several other scents from this lion. He must not be a rouge like himself. "You don't travel alone." It was a statement not a question. "What brings a group out here to wander?"

For a moment, Muroki was concerned, as he raised a paw to his forehead. But the moment passed and the introductions were complete.
"I am reviving an old pride, a Clan really. The Dawnwalkers." He was happy to explain, since Sumilyth seemed a good sort of rogue. Something about this lion niggled at Muroki's memory as well. Funny. Had they met before on the road, when Muroki was a charmer? When he was a youngster, in the Crater or the Pridelands? or before that...maybe...
"Is the name familiar to you, Sumilyth?"

The hurt in his head increased even more. A wisp of something that should seem familiar caressed his memory but he couldn't make it out. "It sounds familiar but nothing solid." He closes his eyes and rubbed his paw in circles against his temple.
As the pain ebbed away, he gave a great laugh at his own lack of memory. "Everything is blank from before my trip down a river. But that's probably ancient history." He placed the tan and white foot back onto the ground and took a few more steps closer. There didn't seem to be any danger aside from the pain of forgotten memories. "But you're reviving a clan. Sounds very tedious and drawn out."

"Oh, no. The girls are all quite fun to be around." Muroki thought of dear Jo, changeable Kainda, sassy Laini and the cheerful Safi. The best companions a guy could have. "And Moyenda, the only other male, is a nice sort of lion."
"That's a shame...I can't imagine not having my memories, it must be hard for you. What river was it, the place you remember?"

Girls? That seemed a very good advantage. His one weakness was the fairer gender, but he was at his best when one was around. "Sounds like a very good time," he said with a quiet laugh.
He sobered up as the topic of himself returned. A quiet sigh slipped from his maw. "It's not as terrible as it seems, Muroki. If there was anything bad in my past, I don't remember it and can live with a light heart." The next question had him slightly stumped. With his memory, he hadn't even known where different prides were or even the names of them. "Athi?"

"Ah, I wondered if it was the river Bahari'chau or even the Chione."
Muroki couldn't really remember the Chione - was he old enough to go with the females to watch a hunt, back when they lived at the Temple? It seemed all he could recall was the Temple from his youngest days and from the visit in his adolescents. Then, the short visit had been mostly at the Oasis, eating the careless small game there who weren't used to lions.

Sumilyth merely shook his head. And what a pain his head was giving him still. "I would not know, though I would like to learn. Perhaps I can accompany you and your group. I'm sure more testosterone would be a small welcome."
He honestly didn't know why he had just offered up his services to a complete stranger. Well, he didn't feel like a stranger, more like home. Very odd. But his offer was in the air now and there was little point in taking it back now.

"I'm always happy to share what knowledge I have - was raised by a great wanderer for quite a long time." Muroki pictured in his head various landmarks and his days with Rahima. He himself had wandered blindly for a time but it was the red one who'd taught him most of his geography.
"And you're welcome to join us for however long you'd wish."

He placed a tan and white paw to his chest, the copper mane falling of it's own accord to make an interesting splash of color. He inclined his head in a slight bow. "It would be an honor." He moved closer to the other lion and began to talk with each step. "So tell me Muroki, are you the last heir of this Clan you speak fondly of?"

"Yes. I know my cousins, the true heirs, died and my siblings also, along with all our parents. I hope some of my other more distant relations may have survived but as far as we know...I'm the last of the royal line at any rate." Muroki seemed thoughtful.
"But anyone whose sun-blessed and has a true heart is an heir of the Temple, I suppose, as the old ones would say."

He thought that over. Anyone sun-blessed and has a true heart is an heir of the Temple. It sounded strange even to his ears, which he twitched in thought. "Well then, lead on to this gathering. Hopefully I will learn what it is you mean."
(( Want to call it a wrap? ))
