Her dark red hooves touched the ground lightly, softer than even a cat's paw. She was always light on her feet... hooves... and was quiet--quieter, in fact--than a cat as she literally prowled around the area, bored half to death. Since she was bored, she had deigned to train since she knew her father would harass her later about it if she didn't at least train some every day.

Her father had always been a tough teacher, if a bit of a proud father. Of course, he rarely showed his affection unless he saw that she had mastered a skill and then he would approve of her and then would return to criticizing her about her other defaults.

Sighing to herself, her thoughts wandered mindlessly as she meandered about the meadow, feathers rustling slightly due to the slight breeze that had picked up. Blue eyes scanned the open area with a look of caution and, of course, boredom mixed in. Inadvertently she wondered how Meshach and Rowenya were doing before she shook her head.

Aureate soared through the sky, singing to the blue around him, the white puffy clouds he made a point to dive through, then shooting back up as though he would fly to the sun. What a glorious day was this! Time away from his usual haunts, his usual company, even his family. Today the Phantom of the Golden Rose soared towards new places, new companions.
A dark figure in the clearing below caught his attention, made him angle his wings to spiral around overhead. Another winged horse, to be sure... With a mane of crimson and blue... Mare? Perhaps... Certainly a dainty figure...
With a shrug he tipped his wings and plunged lower, the wind whipping through his mane and pulling a joyous sound from him. Time to see who this was.
"Greetings." He sang out. "A fine day, is it not?"

It was a good thing she had been paying attention to her surroundings today, otherwise the stallion that appeared out of nowhere would have startled her badly. Not only was he just as colorfully colored like she was (in respect), he was... strange. He sang. Who in their right mind sang when they were trying to greet someone? Shaking her head in bemusement, she nodded to the newcomer, obviously knowing she was going to have company whether she preferred it or not.

"...Uh... hi," she replied, with a touch of unsureness marking her tone, "It's an okay day, I wouldn't say it was fine..." she answered. She glanced over him quickly, noting his wings, the odd white color on his face and the golden touches. The golden rose down his leg was probably a birthmark, but lucky for him, it was a pretty one. She had marks too, but then, she took after her mother; she was slightly bigger than Ringlet due to her father, but to most would appear a small, dainty, delicate Wind mare.

"What brings someone like you out here?" she finally asked, fighting back the sudden urge to just... well... eat him up. Stupid Kalona blood! She hissed quietly to herself, and managed to fight down her crazy insatiable appetite (yes, it was in insatiable because she couldn't really... well, she couldn't really consume blood despite how she had urges to hunt down some poor creature and taste their raw flesh and life's blood) and focused her attention on the stallion before her, waiting on his answer.

Ears pitching forward, Aureate considered her with a somewhat incredulous expression. It wasn't a fine day? Had she not been tasting the wind this morning? The thermals were fantastic! He'd been up before the sun, soaring and diving, spiraling down toward the sea and then pulling up just enough for his hooves do dance along the whitecaps, then up, up, up he went again!
Life was fine today!
He flicked his ears back a bit, and tilted his head. "Erm... Someone like me?"
He queried. Wasn't she like him? "Forgive me for saying, but I was raised one made introductions before interrogations...."
He swept his wings wide and dropped to a knee, bowing his head to his outstretched foreleg. "Greetings Lady In the Wood, I am Aureate, the Phantom of the Sky, the Golden Rose. Son of Sekhmet and Erik..."

She felt guilty for jumping on his suddenly when it was obvious he wasn't trying to hurt her, but she couldn't help it. Like he said he was raised a certain way, so she was raised a certain way as well. "I apologize," she asserted politely. "I was raised to be extremely cautious, and polite greetings isn't normally what happens in my family..." Except with her mother, anyway. Ringlet was always happy-go-lucky (well, sort of. She'd sobered up slightly ever since her father started changing) and Hinode was off wandering around again (probably to find some poor stallion to scare). "Today is perfectly fine, I suppose," she reluctantly agreed.

"That's a long name," she mused. "But I think I see what you're after... uh... Aureate, Phantom of the Sky, the Golden Rose, and Son of Sekhmet and Erik..." She didn't know who his parents were despite the given names, but she was polite anyway. "You can call me Blackfire." Short and sweet, just how she liked it. Aureate seemed the kind to enjoy flaunting his talent (or some such) as well as being able to live more freely than she did. Blackfire had an inkling of an idea she was under the control of her father, and until she broke free of that curse, she was pretty much a servant... or rather, a way to bring better potential into the "family"... she shook her head to get rid of the negative thoughts and instead focused on the brightness that Aureate seemed to radiate.

"Blackfire." He murmured, and bowed again. "If it pleased you, you may call me Aureate, or just Aure, as my friends tend to..."
He grinned, tilting his head at her and considering her. She did not look like anyone he knew, so he was fairly sure he would not know her parents -even if she told him their names. As she didn't seem too keen on doing that, he did not pry.
"Do you like days such as this?" He asked with a flick of one wing. "For to be sure, the cooler days suit me fine, but this is quite nice."

"Aureate, then," she said, and wrinkled her nose. "Much as I would like to call you 'Aure', that won't happen until we come to know the other better... which may or may not happen." She raised a soft blue eyebrow when he bowed to her, and she sighed. "Okay, I'm going to have a serious complex every time you do that, so just stop. Believe me, I'm not worthy of such politeness, especially when I barely retain the patience for such manners." Aureate changed the subject pretty well considering how he had just looked her over. Somewhat impressed, she stared up into the sky for a moment. "Days like these are rare enough, at least for me. So I suppose I do, in a way." The black dawn will soon rise if I don't hurry... She was on edge today, because she felt that constant presence in her mind that made her snap at strangers sometimes, but hopefully not at Aureate. She wasn't a bad mare, contrary to popular belief (or rather, well, she certainly did have the appearance) but sometimes Blackfire wondered if her anger made her look more Kalona-like, something she now wished she desperately didn't want to look. When she ws a filly, she had been jealous of her sister, Hinode, who had the appearance of the Kalona. But now that she had gotten over that complex... she found that she really didn't want to be a Kalona. It had driven her father deeper into the insanity he was already in, and if she was careful... she could die... by her father.

As he spoke he watched every nuance of the mare before him. She was a compact, fiery thing... So much personality... Even as she slapped him down because he bowed to her and told him he was an egotistical maniac -not in those words- he found himself wanting to spend time with her.
Hearing his name made him smile, and as he folded his wings he watched her thoughts chase each other across her face. Many things she was thinking did not appear to please her, and though he longed to offer to help... She had a point. They did not know each other at all..
"I would like that, if it did." He offered softly. "For now, Aureate will do... Nice to make your acquaintence, Lady Blackfire... And I will do my best not to bow anymore..."
He smiled, blue eyes dancing as the wind tugged his silken mane around him.

A wry smile tugged at her mouth as she rolled her eyes at him. Well, fine, she would allow him to address her as "Lady Blackfire" for now. She might as well deal with it, since she sensed there would come a time where she would be addressed like that... soon. "Very funny, Aureate," she said, and let loose a laugh without meaning to. Ironically, the stallion was very amusing and she couldn't help but to laugh a bit. It felt strange to laugh, despite how she had a, well, fiery personality that was always kept at by when around her father. She felt more open and free without her father's sharp eye always watching her. She shivered suddenly, and stepped closer to Aureate subconsciously before she realized what she was doing. "What brings you out here? It's so desolate and quiet and such I'm surprised a, uh, free, singing stallion like you would be in this kind of place." She ignored the fact that they were, in fact, in a wide, open, grassy meadow.

He tilted his head, a grin stretching across his face when she laughed. Haha! She laughed! The smile faded at her shiver, and when she stepped closer he almost stretched a wing out to offer her comfort.
On second thought, better not... She might take it as some sort of offense...
"I was just soaring around... What is so odd about me being here?"
Was there a rule about single, flying, singing stallions being in this area?
