The situation that his father had put him in was one that was busy. Ezeoha's family, well... it could be considered his own for the time being, was big and very active. Especially the Uncle. Flirting father who sleeps a lot who cares a lot about his self, it seems that some of the work to feed the family of five or so, plus himself, was put onto their shoulders. The morning was turning into noon and it was about time that Zeki went out to gather some lunch for the family. Being a juvenile, he could not get big games, so a small catch will have to suffice.

He was hoping to find a nice female to flirt with, after being taught most of Uncle Ez's ways and lifestyle, he had been waiting to put it to use. He was feeling a lot different than before, he wasn't too focused on his Code anymore and more into the lifestyle of his Uncle. Flirting, wooing, and eyeing females... if Ezeoha did it since he was a cub, he could do the same his own age, the problem was, he has not met any beautiful females other than his own cousins. And it seems that will not be happening today.

Watching a herd of kudu graze in the distance, he waited for them to move around more to catch any sight of any of the smaller infants. Someone had to be there otherwise, he was stuck catching rabbits again. He needed to make kills and the family needed to eat. He had promised his father and his Uncle that he will help and not be a burden. He had to pull his own weight. Golden paws kneaded the dirt in impatient restraint. He had to wait a little longer... something had to be in that herd, he just had to find it and the easy way to get to it...

Al-Hattal was neither female nor young - he was a large, strong male in the prime of his life. He wasn't on the hunt for kudu, either; he was on the prowl for a lioness. Some territories, such as the Firekin, he avoided quite carefully, but surely dipping into the Pridelands wouldn't get him into any trouble! It did have a reputation for its openness, after all. Perhaps that policy had also...been adopted by some of its females? He could hope.

Since he had no intentions of hunting actual prey, he didn't bother to skulk around the herd of kudu, just meandered right on towards it with the intention of going right through it - let them run off, for all he cared!

Zeki's crimson eyes, proned to be carried in the Royal Family's bloodline, picked up on the standoutish male in the distance. His heart sped a little as he flicked his vision from the herd and back to the male; was he planning to scare them off or was he actually hunting? His eyes moved to and fro from the two as he had to contemplate what to do next, he could not go and find another herd. Not now, this one was fine! This male was gonna make him work even harder for his food!

Oh jeez, he is starting to behave like his Uncle, work for optimal protentional with the least expended energy.

He snarled and darted down the hill side and toward the lion. The Pride Lander came to a slow trott as he approached.

"Hey, what are you doing? Are you trying to scare them away?" he whispered in a low tone, enough for this male to pick up on it. "Are you from around here, Mister?"

The sudden whisper of a young voice to the side as he strolled along gave him pause, and he turned his head, dark eyes narrowed in bemusement. What did a some little runt care if he scared the herd off? It wasn't like a kid his age stood a chance of hunting anything bigger than a rabbit!

Al-Hattal was far from pleased to run into a child - not only did he not have any use for them, he was just plain uncomfortable around them. This was, in fact, the first youngster he'd seen since he'd left his son with a pride all that time ago. The thought of Hauzu'l made him frown.

"No," he answered impatiently, "But I don't care if I do. And no, I'm not from here."

He paused.

"If you aren't from here, then you must be a rogue!" he smiled, sat down and offered a bow. "My name's Ezekiel, but please, call me Zeki. It's a lot easier on the tongue and mind."

He looked at the herd who seemed to move a bit away but not entirely away. He kept an eye on them but mostly on this new male. He seemed to be an ordinary rogue, but what was he doing here in the Pride Lands? Was he looking to join their Pride? Was he looking to find something more? He opened his maw to question his purpose here, but closed it before the words formed. The Pride Lands was a place for all to come. It was not right to scare him off.

"Well, then, want to help me catch one? I have a big family to feed and I can't really do that with a small kudu..."

"Yeah, I'm a rogue. Name's Al-Hattal," he responded, not bothering to waste the eloquence he saved for pretty females on some cub. At Ezekiel's request for help, he blinked owlishly, as though unable to believe his ears. A cub! A cub, trying to hunt kudu, and asking him for help?

Hah! As if! He'd taught a kid once, sure, but once was more than enough. "Uh...sorry, kid, but I don't do lessons."

Zeki scoffed, "I don't need lessons, what I was asking for was help. I can hunt myself, so you don't need to teach me anything," it was sort of boastish, something against his Code, but it didn't phase him. He was capable of catching food, taking on a large kudu was almost suicide, survivable but still. He just needed to take care of the smaller kudu, an infant, an elder, or perhaps a sickly one.

"If you don't want to help, then fine, I guess I could just talk to you while I keep the kudu on edge. It's amusing how they sit and watch, waiting for me to make a move."

"Riiiiiiight," Al-Ha scoffed, eyeing the juvenile. Not even an abnormally large juvenile could even stand a chance against a kudu! "You're in a pride, kid. You want help, find a lioness."

Unless maybe there was a shortage? Man, would that ever suck.

Zeki rubbed his head.

"Well, the issue is that I am with my cousins and uncle, they usually hunt by themselves if they even hunt at all. I didn't want to bother them to help me since my Uncle is already having a rough time being a single parent," he replied. Besides the fact that he is overly protective of them and wouldn't let them out of his sight for long...

He looked at the Kudu herd that had moved a good deal away from the two lions, perhaps they have not really ran away because they have not really moved themselves. He did wish there was a lioness here, maybe two, then he would gladly put off hunting and do other things; like entertaining them.

Who taught kids how to speak like that? It was downright weird to be confronted with an...un-childish-seeming child. If possible, it made Al-Hattal even more disposed to dislike him.

"Well I guess that means you're just screwed," he said bluntly. Really, what else was there to say? The older male looked around for some kind of escape - get him away from the snotty kid, please!

He sighed. It seemed that he was going to be able to get through this one, trying to pull one of his uncle's tactics to get others to do a task for him wasn't going too well. He'll have to practice that.

"I guess I am," he admitted reluctantly. "I'll still have to catch something. I thought I could try my paw at a kudu, they should be as easy as everything else if it were young, old, and/or sickly."

Zeki rose to his paws and shrugged, no point in wasting time with this male. Now he wished there was a female here instead, someone who can hunt, who may help, and someone to talk to.

"Well, if you came here to the Pride Lands, I could assume you have something to do," he looked over his shoulder at the larger, darkner male. He didn't seem to be much help to him. With another shrug, he crouched low, and crept toward the kudu. His tail flicked as it disappeared into the tall grass.

Maybe he shouldn't talk to Rogue Strangers...

"...You're going to get kicked," he said gruffly after the retreating juvenile. "And it will break your ribs, or maybe your leg or your skull. And then what good will you be?"

A touch of conscience had niggled at him, it seemed, a memory of his own son. He frowned sourly. He still wasn't going to help.

"Pain is weakness leaving the body, right? That is what my Uncle has always said and he gets hurt a lot. He doesn't really wince or flinch when you hurt him nowadays," he spoke as he stopped a good few feet from the older male.

"If I was broken... I won't of much use. Rather, I would be a burden to my family. But I have to eat, everyone has to eat and these Kudu are the closest thing to us that I can find. There are other herds but they are further away," he explained. His belly grumbled as he thought about the kudu and herds. He needed food... he did not want to keep mooching it off his cousins.

"Al-hattal, why are you going to stop me really if you aren't gonna help?"
PostPosted: Sun Nov 04, 2007 11:47 am

Al-Hattal snorted. What kind of crap was that? 'Weakness leaving the body,' hah! "Pain is pain, kid. Means you're hurt or sick, and hurt or sick can get you killed."

"Look at you! Don't you see the size of those things? You can't take down one of those. And you couldn't catch the little ones if you wanted to! You're no cheetah, and they're faster than you. And besides that, you think the big ones'll let you get anywhere close?"

"'Cause you're being stupid," he snorted. "You do that, best case scenario you wear yourself out for nothing. Worst, you get trampled. Come on, isn't this pride supposed to be huge or something? And aren't lionesses supposed to hunt for the pride? Go find one."

It seemed like the first words he spoke flew over his head, though, that was very possible due to his size compared to the older male. Something about size. Not being able to catch one. Faster. Big ones. He tried to piece them together and thought about it.

"If they are weak and old, or sick, they could be easy targets... I have to at least try to get at them."

Zeki looked at the male, he had a strange 'worst case scenario'. "Isn't the worse case scenario suppose to be that I get killed by the alpha of the herd? Being trampled is one thing, but killed is worse," he chuckled rather jokingly before listening on. "The pride has lots of females, but I can't keep relying on others to keep helping me. I'd ask but, if you noticed; Pride Rock is way over there and we are here. My cousins are all over the place so they aren't much help. It is either I catch one and eat or slowly starve myself until another herd passes through."
