Quote:
What do Diddy, Panic! at the Disco's Ryan Ross and Fred Durst have in common? They've all earned the less-than-distinguished honor of being selected for Blender's "The 40 Worst Lyricists in Rock" list. Will.I.Am, Billy Corgan, Anthony Kiedis, Common, Dashboard Confessional, Timbaland and, of course, Kevin Federline, also make the (F) grade, with Sting landing in the #1 spot. The list appears in the magazine's November issue, which streets October 16.

Souce

I don't f'en believe it! I want to kill whoever wrote that; hand em' upside down and skin them alive! But no, it's much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality. So instead, I'll just take a deep breath and just sit back and relapse again. If you swear to listen, I'll start my speech about why whoever added Ryan's name to this is on crack.

a) Let's just forget about Ryan for a moment, m'kay? For a moment, we are all going to forget who on the list and think about what the list means. "The 40 Worst Lyricists in Rock" -- pretty self explainitory. Alrighty, so A Fever You Can't Sweat Out reached stores in 2005; now it's 2007, is anyone else seeing the time lapse? Even if P!ATD was the worse band on the planet in the year of 2005, is it impossible for only 40 songs to come out in two years that have crappy lyrics? I'll play it and make it sincere, but most rap music is trash. TRASH. TRASH. It's all about women degrating themselves and about how all the guys want them in bed. Teenagers listen to this junk -- and I should know, as every one of my own classmates do. At least P!ATD's music has some character. Even in Lying, it's practically nothing compared to what being put on repeat in this decade's iPods.

b) Hate me, skin me alive, I don't care, but I know you're all going to hate me when I say: It could have been better. I don't know how, but it could have been better. No, no, no, you know it will always just be, the famous album written and recorded in five months, but do you honestly think they could have done better if they had been given more time? Oh he's slightly clever to just a certain extent, but can really make the greatest album of all time in less than half a year? ...However, we are all still paying in naivety for whatever new P!ATD item comes out, so I think it's safe to say the album still rocked. So even with the fact that it could have been better, who says what they put out sucks? Alright, yeah, in a few songs they repeat themselves (some more than others) but that doesn't mean that the lyrics are bad, it just means they repeat themselves a lot!

To offset the shakes I'll tell you one thing: the album might have been rushed, but it wasn't written bad. The lyrics are well thought out and have been delicately weaven into some of the most amazing music I've ever heard. How many of us have ever heard I Write Sins Not Tragedies on the radio, turned to a friend and gone "dance to this beat!"? I really can't stress how stupid it was for Ryan to get his name on that list. When that article comes out, I'm seriously considering undercoving the author and sending him/her a letter, telling to, for God's sake, preach with conviction! So I encourage you my friends, my fellow brothers and sisters in Panic, though you may say so under your breath, join me, and when this article comes out, rebel! You don't have to go through the trouble of writing a twenty page letter to writer, telling him/her what an idiot he/she is. No, no, just add to this and post it along; send it to any P!ATD fan so they will know what's going on. I need your help, because I left out some praises to the band, and a few more of your least favorite things.

it's their opinion, i don't think Blender's or any magazines would survey people and find the real info. and plus...k-fed makes one of the crappiest lyrics i've ever read**

surprised

That's lame. But if Ryan sees it, at least he'll know it's all a bunch of bull since they also name Billy Corgan! Who I'm pretty sure Ryan has some respect for...

It'd be worse if it was only about Panic!...

(And I don't think Dashboard Confessional has bad lyrics either... but oh well)

Wow. That's basically the best first post I've ever read in my entire life. Very clever with the lyrics and everything. Props. 3nodding

I agree with everything you said.

Except the thing about rap.
You're just listening to the wrong kind. gonk

In a sort of weird way, I'm kind of glad that Panic! At The Disco had a limited amount of time to write their first album. I wouldn't have wanted it to be any other way. heart

Ha.
That article...is very stupid.
The author does not know what he/she/it is talking about, so I would disregard every word.
We should not care about other people's opinions, but be true to ourselves. If that means we love Panic!, then we love Panic!

It's weird that there are so many FOB-related conversations going on in the guild today.

Wow, um, Ryan Ross writes great lyrics. I don't know who on earth wrote that article, but I don't know why they'd include him. Did they put any support as to why he's one of "The Worst Rock Lyricists?" He writes great lyrics; they really reflect a certain part [if not most of] society. And, anyway, he's still so young and writing these lyrics now, I can't wait to see what he may be writing in a couple of years. I don't think he's just desperate for attention like some of these other songwriters, just trying to write whatever possible to be noticed. I don't know, maybe it's just me. But I seriously don't think he belongs on that list.
