Three dark paws and a white one stepped onto the border between the Motoujamii and Pridelands prides. The young male, now curious about the world around the Pridelands, was investigating the desert. He'd never been there, only ever to the Graveyard, which had ended rather badly, and south through the Southlands to the Kusini'mwezi. That wasn't much, really. Now... Now he wanted to know about the great lions of the desert. He didn't get too far, though, into the sands. The burn was enough to keep him back, enough to make him park his rump and wonder what was out there.

On his own way out to the desert, Danzi noticed in the distance a dark smudge. There being so many black lions, though, he didn't know who it was. He went over, black nose twitching for a bit. He didn't recall ever meeting this lion, that was certain. As the rust-orange lion approached, he recognised the look in the red eyes. He was curious about the desert... "You don't want to go out there, you know."

Surprised by the sudden intrusion of somebody on his thoughts, Shin looked over. "Why not? What's out there...?" His eyes turned back to the dunes, rising and falling like majestic waves of golden water. "I heard about lions that live out there... Is it true?" His ears folded back into his mane, the black one vanishing almost completely. "I want to meet them, see what they're like."

Danzi let out a scoff, walking up to him. "Don't be foolish. The Firekin aren't nice lions. They enslave intruders, or if they're lucky... They kill them." He sat down, looking out over the sands. He had to hide the fond look as memories of not only his cubhood out at a desert oasis but also of Ripuka out in the dunes. "They're big, most are a fiery red..."

Wonder filled Shin's red eyes as he listened, ears perking up. "But what kind of lions enslave others? Aren't we all the same, deep down? Aren't we all lions?" He looked over, tilting his head. "I don't think it's right, the idea of making another a slave..." It sounded... Well, it sounded appalling.

The male shrugged before he stood up. "When you're a lion filled with so much physical power, living in a place as harsh as the desert, you get ideas like that." Green eyes turned towards red as the older male frowned. "Now, never go in there. Only those who are very brave and foolish go there." Flicking his tail, he turned and headed back the way he'd come.

Shin's brow furrowed in thought before he got up and went after. "Wait a minute... I don't know who you are. I've seen you around before... You sleep in the cave off the side of Pride Rock... Why there?" He was young, and he was filled with questions. Leaving the sand behind, he tread upon grass once again. It was familiar and comforting, really, to walk on it.

Stopping in his walking, Danzi looked back over. "I sleep there because that's where my father slept. Call it an inheritance..." His dark tail flicked a bit. "I am Danzi." Starting to feel agitated by forced contact, he began to walk again. He wondered why he was starting to feel less friendly as of late. Was it his age? Or was Makaa'kali, the name he went under in the desert, starting to take a very real hold on him?

"Oh.. I'm Shin." He didn't offer up his parents, since Danzi hadn't offered his up. The adolescent stopped, tail curling just a bit. After a moment of thought, he went heading back towards home. No, he wasn't going to go into the desert. Not today, anyway. With such ferocious lions lurking there... He wanted a very good reason to go there. For now... He'd remain home.

Danzi paused, watching Shin run off. He hadn't missed the three v's under his eye... But wasn't Nyekundu was dead...? Puzzled, he turned back for the desert. He'd think about that later... For now... He wanted to go see Ripuka. As his paws touched the hot sands, he broke into a trot, and then a full-out run. It felt good to run across the sand, even if he hadn't been born to this specific desert. Home or no, though, he thrilled in the heat under his paws.
