Antony was feeling unsettled.
Really, though, he had no sure why. It was a beautiful afternoon in early autumn; the trees were still sporting their brilliantly colored leaves, though patchy in many places, and though there was a chill in the air it was still an enjoyable afternoon to be out and about.
Not that he was doing much of anything with that day. The bright afternoon light saw the half-kalona lying on the ground against the trunk of a large tree just on the edge of the forest; a few feet away, the river proceded along on its southerly path to the lake. But for all his attentiveness Antony could have been deep in a cave; head leaned back against the trunk of the tree, he stared upwards, eyes vacant as thought something important were on his mind.
Then again, in some ways, he did.

The white mare's pelt stood out in these lands like a pear in an apple tree. She was in bland sight and she knew it, she didn't like to be messed with and she liked to see if something was coming at her. She didn't like suprises and it had happened before. She did learn...
The colors of the trees clashed against her coat, but her season was coming. The one in which they lay together and were at peace, one in one. Winter, cold and merciless as she though winter did have her own off days of a natural warmth that could make anyones day.
She yawned as she strutted through the clearing breaking into a trot she was enjoying the slight breeze. She was coming to water, her ears flickered forward. She could hear it, but she could scent something else. Another?
Those cool orbs watched in the distance, she could see someone there lying. She stopped in her tracks. Even from a distance she could see his wings...a chill ran up her spine as her memories washed over her of her father. She shuddered shaking it away. It wasn't him.
Though she did notice he wasn't full kalona, a half breed...like herself.

As was often the case, Antony was hardly the most observant of Soquili. Continuing to stare vacantly off into sky, the white stallion mulled and mulled, thinking on the complicated issue that had dogged his steps and occupied his thoughts for the past few days. It was a bit of a puzzle, alright, and one that had been attracting far too much attention as of late.
Perhaps that was why he was even more unobservant than usual, taking no note of the strange mare. Which was a pity, in a way...the last thing he needed was to be caught off-guard by a kalona.

She noticed how offguard he was at the moment...not a bright one was he? She walked closer her head tilted to one side for the moment, the unikalona watched him carefully as if something else would jump at her and yell 'boo' or something of the sort. Her tail flicked as she drew closer, still not noticing she could impale him with one of her horns at the moment and he still probably wouldn't notice.
She was close enough to be in speaking distance but instead she walked past him...to the water.

A flicker of movement as the mare walked past was enough to attract Antony's attention, divided at the moment as it was, and bring it back into focus. First flicking an ear, then lowering his head, Antony frowned slightly as he looked over at the form by the water...then froze. What the hell, a kalona out here?
It was as though a cold wave of water had washed over him; almost instantly a cold sweat was beading his brow. Kalona...and he had stupidly not been paying attention. Great.
Well, it was too late to change his earlier ignorance, but there was still hope. Either the other kalona was ignoring him or hadn't noticed; either way, he had a chance to make it away unscathed yet.
As silently as he could, the stallion rose to his feet, gaze on the kalona mare. Perhaps he could get away without he noticing...

Her head lifted to from the cooling liquid she had taken in so ravishly. "Going so soon," she asked without turning to see him. She had heard him, unlike himself she paid attention to her surroundings it often kept you alive. Her ears flared back, was he afraid of her?
He is afraid of you.
How can he be? He is like me!
So, you look different. You don't look like him. He looks partially normal. You look like a cold blooded killer. Full kalona.
No, I do not. I have a unicorn horn for a reason, thank you very much.
The voices played inside her head, toyed with her. Her chest heaved, as insecurity swept over her. Why did she have to look and act as she did. It wasn't always her...really...it wasn't. No one could deal with both sides. No one.

Damnit, so he HAD been seen. Lovely.
However, Antony's cheerful voice belied his inward anxiety as he cheerily responded, "Well, you know what they say about company and crowds; kalona being bigger than most other Soquilis, it takes fewer of them to fill up a space. I just thought I'd clear up a little space."
That, and he really didn't feel like getting into another defense of his life, not today, at least. He really didn't feel up to it, and besides; fighting for one's life was never something that any sane Soquili could enjoy!
Especially in this case; the fact that the kalona had noticed him but not done anything disturbed him. Did she plan to toy with him?

She really was getting sick of the stereotypes her brows furrowed. "Why must you say things that aren't true. You aren't taking any more soace than I and two, I am not kalona." she hissed as she turned her head to look at him with those cool eyes. "Only partial..."
Not like he had any room to talk. She looked back to the waters staring into her reflection for the moment...why was it so difficult for everyone to see. She didn't know.

Had he known what she was thinking, Antony probably would have been able to sympathize, possibly even moreso. After all, he'd been an active, bright, and social child growing up, but had to deal with fear and rejection because of his kalona traits. He hated that fact, but had simply come to accept that there was a rational reason for fear in non-kalonas. He himself hated and feared 'true' kalona, after all, even though he felt himself good and one of his good friends was a pureblood kalona.
That didn't mean that he wasn't capable of making false judgements himself, though. Upon hearing the mare's words, he narrowed his eyes, attention darting from her horns to her wings to her tail. She certainly looked a lot more kalona-like than he did, that much was certain. "Partial, huh? If that's the case, then I beg your pardon for my assumptions. However, I'm sure that you can understand my angle, given that you look very much like a pureblood."
Still, it wasn't in his nature to be suspicious, and as he spoke he gave a slight bow as a way of apology. He'd just have to be on guard, that's all.

Her own eyes narrowed as she looked back, "Beg pardon, if I could have chosen my father I would have but instead I am the daughter of a rapist. I am also sorry I couldn't have changed my looks before meeting you so you wouldn't pass judgement on one before meeting them." she hissed. Her anger was taking over, she could feel her mother's part sliding away and the beast within take a hold. Clawing at her on the inside, but she had to remain in control this time. She had to fight it...
She didn't mean to take his words as offensive but she had and it was a very fragile subject. Her eyes looked back towards the water, as she turned again she whispered, "My apologizes..." for the slight burst of outrage.

At the mare's stealy gaze, Antony felt his own eyes narrowing, his own irritation rising at her words. As the victim of misplaced predjudice himself, he knew how terrible that could be; however, he still felt justified in his original assumption, especially given the hatred most fullbloods felt towards half-breeds. If she had placed him as a partial kalona, then she ought to know that he had good reason for being paranoid and greeted his apology with a bit more understanding, not pursued the issue with hostility. From the looks of it, HE would say the the kalona part in her was more than active, regardless of how she came by that blood. He had sympathy for her mother, if what she was saying was true, but beyond that...
He was in no mood to posture and exchange 'pleasantries' with one so determined to be aggreived, thanks much.
"Yes, it's a terrible thing when one becomes so blinded by appearances and perceptions that they can't move past it; moreso when the one that can't move past it is the one that actually carriers those looks." Though his tone was polite, it was a frosty politeness; he'd apologized, and she was still being hostile for something that was beyond his control, he considered himself utterly within his bounds to be aggreived.
Speaking as he was at the time, Antony missed the apology, softly spoken as it was. All that he knew was that his musings had been interrupted and a normal reaction (more than normal, given her possession of ALL of the standard kalona features) had been greeted with utter unpleasantry. "I'll just leave, though, least I injure your sensibilities any further."

"I apologized, though." she replied looking up again. Her muscles not even phased by the weight of the metal collar around her neck. Her head tilted, "Perhaps I will never understand, yet I am ceasing the persistance to try." Her eyes looked as if she were in a dream like state yet her words were meant for the conversation. She recognized those tones, she did.
"I do wish the judgements would take there leave for they make me tempered so..." her bangs fell into the side of her face as she still watched him.
She didn't choose to look as she did...it was how she was born and she couldn't help that. "I am not injured," she inquired. "Though it seems you have wanted to leave since the beginning may I inquire why?"

...Ok then. One moment, she was hostile, the next, quiet and almost uncertain? It was like he was speaking to two different Soquilis, one after the other.
But returning hostility with hostility was one thing, grace with grace another. Though he still didn't exactly trust this mare, he could at least give her the benefit of the doubt, from a distance at the moment. And that meant being civil.
At her question though, he had to smile, if a bit wryly. "Well, I wanted to leave because I was under the impression you were a kalona, and for the most part kalonas are a race I certainly wish to steer clear of. You look very much like a full-blood kalona, but I myself am lacking too many important physical traits to not be identified as a half-breed on sight, and as you are no doubt aware the kalonas as a race tend to frown on half-breeds enough to act violent towards them. I like my skin in one piece, basically."
It was strange to be explaining something that to him seemed so commonplace, and yet...had she never been around kalonas to know that persecution? If so, then she was fortunate, alright!

"So because I look like our ancestors, you base solely on their own actions?" she asked with a rather curious yet sorrow based tone. Something different and peculiar about her yes. But she couldn't even untangle all of the webs in her mind. He himself seemed unsure, questioning her liabilty if she were good or bad. He was analyzing her the bit down.
Her soft clouded orbs looked to him, perhaps she was jealous of him for he didn't look as full blood as she. Perhaps he should consider himself lucky. For the judgements of normals tended to be the same as kalonas to them in her opinnion. They all judged each other, blamed eachother and yet nothing would get solved from this. Nothing. She was smart enought to realize it.

In spite of his earlier annoyance, Antony had to admit that he was starting to get curious at what seemed like astonishing naitivity on the part of this mare. She was seriously wondering why he, a visibly half kalona, was worried about her, a mare that for all intents and purposes looked (at first, second, and third) glances like a pureblood? Ah, to have gone through life and not been exposed to true kalonas...for that, he envied her.
"Ancestors, nothing. There are currently walking around, alive and well, attacking and murdering others for no reason other than that they aren't kalona. And half-breeds are usually looked on in an even less positive light than non-kalonas, given they represent an 'abomination' against the breed. If you don't know that, then I have to tell you that you've led a pretty fortunate life. To those that know and have experienced the hatred of the 'true' kalona, it would be suicidal to be anything other than wary."
And it wasn't even that he didn't have reason to be forgiving; wasn't his father's oldest and dearest friend a pureblooded kalona? But that didbn't change the fact that Ariston was an exception, not a rule...
