Ok so unlike most LDS people I hang aroung the "Goths" and the "Metalheads" and they are my best friends. So im not going to give up my christain buddies(yes they are christian). But some of the clothing I think is cool. I always have. Like...gloves with chains..."trip" pants...skull belt...etc...

So what do guys think? Good? Bad? or Unsure?

If it is in moderation, then I would think it is okay. We've been told to avoid extreme appearances. (Which some Goth looks are very extreme.) We have to remember that our bodies are a temple. Would the church temples look cool with skulls, chains, and satanic (Some goths wear that) symbols? Really you can pray to see if what you are wearing is right.

It does matter what you wear, you know, we wouldn't have dress standards if it didn't matter. Through personal pray, scripture study, and all of that, we can find out the reasons why we have these standards.

I have "Goth" and "Metalhead" friends, too. I like the way they look (except when the guys wear eyeliner). But sometimes they wear clothes that make me think "that's a bit much..." or "that doesn't even look comfortable". Some people think black is a bad color... I don't know... But I think the clothes are too extreme when you can hear the chains on their pants jingling from all the way down the hall. And when they walk funny because their pants are too tight. XD That's so funny.
But seriously, I wear chains or paper clips or rubberbands around my wrists and I don't think that's bad. And black itsn't a bad color.

...but i love those things...thats the point. I want to be like them, ok so I am one of them.

but at church I take those off and wear appropriate clothes for church.

There is a part in a talk by Curtis Jacobs called What Girls Wish Guys Knew and Visa Versa that I think applies to this.

Curtis Jacobs:
Quote:
One day a young man who had been in his class for a couple of years who had always kinda dressed kinda slopily, kinda the way of the world, unkept hair kinda look, sloppy just cause it looked cool got his mission call. Well the young man came in to his seminary teacher and had gotten the "missionary look."

He came in and he said, "Brother So-and-so, I want you to know that I am so excited that I got my mission call!"

And the seminary teacher said, "That's great! But what happend to your face?"

And the kid goes, "You didn't hear me? I just told you I just got my mission call!"

And the teacher goes, "I heard you. I heard you. But what happend to you, you look so different?"

And the kid goes, "You're not getting it are you? I just got my mission call. For the next two years I get to represent the Lord! In the mission field! Don't you get it?"

The seminary teacher says, "Yeah I get it. My question is who did you represent before you got your mission call?"

Although you are not going on a mission, I think the same things we see here apply to you. You call yourself a "Mormon." Every Sunday you take the sacrament and take the Lord's name upon yourself. You are representing Christ.

If I went you your school or where ever it is that you hang out with your friends and I saw you I wouldn't believe that you were a representative of Christ.

I'm not saying Goths are bad. In high school I had Goth friends too. But the thing is that I acted/talked/dressed in a way to let my friends know who I stood for. If those friends didn't accept me because I didn't dress like them, or talked like them, or smoked or drinked with them then they weren't that great of friends to begin with. I had friends that liked me for me and they knew who I stood for and my standards.

To me it seems that you, Nasoma Kuron, have two faces. One you show to your friends and the other you show at church. If those kinds of clothes aren't appropriate at church then they shouldn't be appropriate at all.

I'm sorry if this offends you or anyone else who reads this but this is just the way I feel about representing out Lord and Savior.

ok well which is better me coming into church with chains,skulls...etc.

or would you like to see me represent christ by doing my hair, (just overal looking nice)

people at church see the music i like, they know i dispise(preps) they know i have "goth" friends and they know im still true to the church. and for cryin out loud! I am the Mia-Maid president! and they respect that, but i know many people at my church who do the same thing, but dress in a way where it would be "distracting" so do you get ehere im coming from?

Nicely put! I feel the same way. I dress at school in a way that, if we didn't have to wear skirts and dresses, would be suitable in church. I look the same everywhere I go. Makeup seems pointless to me, and really, you shouldn't care what everyone else thinks. Dress in ways that someone walking down through the halls could see you and know who and what you stand for. No one is perfect, but we can try to be.

^-^ Huzzah! It's good to not let other people's opinions change who you are. Be unique! Be different! But...!
Don't go against church standards. Or your standards. Whichever one is higher.
Don't be someone you can't love, or else what's the point? If you're someone you hate then change.
My speech is over. surprised *flies away*

Well, it seems as if you are looking for permission to be goth.

Personally, I don't think there is any problem with it. I always tell people I'm a "closet-goth". Bauhaus has always been one of my favorite bands. I saw the Cure live in 1989 at Dadger Stadium. They played with Love And Rockets and the Pixies. It was a great show. When I was a school psych at a high school in Chino Hills, I was friends with most of the goth kids there. I didn't judge them or think they were evil or anything like that. Some were a little mixed-up, like kids in any group can be. I like a wide range of music, but I tend to lean more towards groups like the ones I mentioned above (Cure, Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, Gene Loves Jezebel, The Church, Tones On Tail, Jesus And Mary Chain, Love And Rockets, Daniel Ash, etc...) I think it is fine to be any type of personality you want as long as you are not living in self-denial. If you believe one way and act another, there are always going to be problems. If the way you dress goes against the way you know you should dress, you will not be able to be at peace. ANYONE who goes against what they know to be right will NEVER be able to have peace in their life.

Quote:
"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? . . . The temple of God is holy, which temple ye are" (1 Corintians 3:16-17).

Your body is God's sacred creation. Respect it as a gift from God, and do not defile it in any way. Through your dress and appearance, you can show the Lord that you know how precious your body is. You can show that you are a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Prophets of God have always counseled His children to dress modestly. The way you dress is a reflection of what you are on the inside. Your dress and grooming send messages about you to others and influence the way you and others act. When you are well groomed and modestly dressed, you invite the companionship of the Spirit and can exercise a good influence on those around you.

Never lower your dress standards for any occasion. Doing so sends the message that you are using your body to get attention and approval and that modesty is important only when it is convenient.

Immodest clothing includes short shorts and skirts, tight clothing, shirts that do not cover the stomach, and other revealing attire. Young women should wear clothing that covers the shoulder and avoid clothing that is low-cut in the front or the back or revealing in any other manner. Young men should also maintain modesty in their appearance. All should avoid extremes in clothing, appearance, and hairstyle. Always be neat and clean and avoid being sloppy or inappropriately casual in dress, grooming, and manners. Ask yourself, "Would I feel comfortable with my appearance if I were in the Lord's presence?"

Someday you will receive your endowment in the temple. Your dress and behavior should help you prepare for that sacred time.

Do not disfigure yourself with tattoos or body piercings. If girls or women desire to have their ears pierced, they are encouraged to wear only one pair of modest earrings.

Show respect for the Lord and for yourself by dressing appropriately for Church meetings and activities whether on Sunday or during the week. If you are not sure what is appropriate, ask your parents or leaders for help.

"And they did impart of their substance, every man according to that which he had, to the poor, and the needy, and the sick, and the aflicted; and they did not wear costly apparel, yet the were neat and comely. (Alma 1:27).

well I think its fine to wear these, because I Am Nasoma Kuron, I see these and what I think about the clothing is at least it isn't tempting guys, so no skin. and my style covers alot legs, arms, etc. If I lived in India that would not be ok because I'm not wearing their traditional dresses.
But I view it to be "just clothing" I don't see it as satanic, haha ha no.
No satin in anything I do. I know one of you will "point out" that I would be giving into temptation. Ok, riddle me this why is an LDS woman writing a story of vampires? Is she satanic? Does this make us Satanic? No is the answer. She is doing what she enjoys.
