Ok somewhere I heard people are not to have more than a set of earrings in their ears. What do you guys think?

The prophet has asked us not to get more than one pair of earrings. I think if the prophet has told us that, then we should listen. Hinckley: Quote: I submit that it is an uncomely thing, and yet a common thing, to see young men with ears pierced for earrings, not for one pair only, but for several. They have no respect for their appearance. Do they think it clever or attractive to so adorn themselves? I submit it is not adornment. It is making ugly that which was attractive. Not only are ears pierced, but other parts of the body as well, even the tongue. It is absurd. We—the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve—have taken the position, and I quote, that “the Church discourages tattoos. It also discourages the piercing of the body for other than medical purposes, although it takes no position on the minimal piercing of the ears by women for one pair of earrings.”

I am proud to say that I have no piercings. I do have a freckle on my ear and in the MTC I used to tell people I had my ear pierced as a joke. Some believed me. It was pretty funny because almost everyone else knew I was joking. I later told the guys who fell for it that I was kidding.
I remember listening to the Prophet whe he spoke about girls not having any more that one set of piercings. There were a few women who were a bit uncomfortable because they had many. There were no men there that had any piecings (that I knew of) but when talking about it later, I remember one guy who said he was going to let his piercing "close-up?" Is that possible? I don't know much about piercing. If you don't use it again, does it go away?

I got my ears pierced a long time ago. Snaksie, they do close up after a while. I don't really wear earrings anymore... but I put some in every once in a while to keep them from closing up incase I want to wear some when I maybe turn into a "lady". XD But more than one piercing... I wonder why we're aloud to have one and not more... and for just women. Well I guess why can't girls wear suits and ties to church instead of dresses? And guys don't really wear dresses at all...

It probably has to do with what is acceptable in the times we live in. I used to be a veil worker in the Los Angeles Temple. I had a goatee. Then all of the sudden, they said you can't have any facial hair if you work in the temple. I wondered why. Jesus had facial hair. Most of our early prophets looked like ZZTop band members. So, why couldn't we. The answer I got was that as the times change, standards do as well. So, having facial hair is now considered "not-conservative" and they want everyone to look as proper as possible.
I believe women having one set of piercings is still considered in good taste, but more than one is perhaps extreme. And men with piercings are considered, perhaps, more worldly. This is just what I think based on the information I've been given. I have no trouble with it. I don't want to get any piercings and I think women look better with only one set.

Yes, I've been thinking a bit about this topic as of late. I only have one set of earrings, and I got them when I was only three months old, so I had no say. sweatdrop But I agree. We girls only look good with a single pair IN OUR EARS.

It's to keep us modest. One pair of earings looks simple yet elegant, and nice. Any more becomes gaudy and flashy, as if the person was trying to attract attention to themselves. Well they do and not the right kind. It's the same thing with clothes and modesty. Guys don't wear them because it looks outrageous on our frame. Like Snaksie said, societies perspectives change over time and we're supposed to keep ourselves on a higher plane. In the world but not of it. Priviledged because of our knowledge, yet humble in our thoughts, actions, and words.
