Far out in the vast, softly rolling hills of the countryside, much farther than most bother to venture, sits an old and broken town. The wide river cutting across the valley leaves a wide bridge as the only entrance, though the wooden planks are dusty and sun-bleached, and the ornate bronze railing upon the sides are worn down and broken in a few places. The city itself is worn down and broken, the old cobblestone roads paved throughout laced with a web work of cracks. An unbroken window is difficult to locate among all the tall buildings made of dark, angular slopes following an Art Deco style. All the houses and buildings are empty, and appear to have been empty for many years. The old-fashion streetlamps remain unlit, making the full moon the only source of light in the empty city.
In the center of the town lies the church. At each corner of the roof are broken gargoyles peering down, and in the center the bell tower sits devoid of a bell. The stained glass windows standing in tall rows on each side are all broken, though the dusty shards that remain can give some clue of which saints they once displayed.
A figure drops lightly onto the church roof just beside the empty belltower. The creature appears to be a young woman around the age of twenty, save for the expansive garnet wings protruding from each shoulder. The appendages fold slowly against her back, the smooth outer surfaces reflecting the moon like red water. Her fair complexion looks washed out in the silver lighting, but her emerald eyes shine out past the dark. Her light brown hair is about the length of her chin with her bangs swept to the side. Her clothes are a simple grey skirt tied into a knot at her hip and a grey cut-off shirt with a strap tying up around her neck.
The color then began to drain from her wings, leaving it the normal flesh color. She reached back to undo part of her shirt, leaving the rest of her back open. The appendages were then free to melt back against her body, shrinking into a large hulk upon her back and eventually smoothing back to normal. She shrugged her shoulders, working the kinks out of her muscles before fixing her shirt. With that the creature sat back against the rusted metal tower and whispered a faint spell, grinning as thick coal-colored clouds rolled across the sky to release thick sheets of icy rain.

The first of the icy droplets strikes a pair of orange shades first before all else as though the first of many was drawn directly to the man whom gazes from behind the tinted glass. His left eye clamped shut as his right refocused in an attempt to see what had landed upon his shades with the alternating bands of orange and green that ringed his pupil extending to reduce the amount of light entering his eye. He twitched briefly as he moved to wipe the single spot from his shades but found it a moot point as the clouds above grew to dominate the skies and unleash a downpour upon the forgotten city. He only took a moment to regard the skies before his stride continued to carry him deeper into the forsaken town without a single thought beyond the first dedicated to the rain.
In his wake the young man left a deluge of rain and sleet he had trapped just above him in a rather simple inversion of the natural pull of gravity centered around him no more than ten feet from the ground. Occasionally a single drop would pass through and strike his long black trench coat and stream to the ground but none would ever come to touch the mess of orange hair hanging down to completely conceal his ears and mingle between the collar of his black shirt without being truly long enough to hang over the back of his coat or down his back on the inside. What had once been a pair of rugged black cargo pants now ends in tatters with every last pocket torn free with only but a few strands of thread still clinging to the fabric where they had once been. As he glances about the derelict city his visage holds both a hint of sorrow and a strange conviction as though he were trying to convince himself that not all ends are unjust or unfair.
It was then that his eyes fell upon something not left to crumble to dust but a living being perched atop the roof of what could only have been a church. The rain dancing above his head began to pile up as more and more flooded into the section of altered gravity and entered a chaotic swirl of rain and frustration. Tac's gaze locked upon the young woman as he began to move forward once again which allowed the rain piling to slosh down and finally reach the earth it so longed for in its fall from the heavens. His mind reeled as he looked upon her with thoughts of those he knew clouding his thoughts alongside images of faces he had never put a name to in the first place. The jumbled mess left him utterly confused in the aftermath of recent events such that he could not truly remember whether or not he knew the young lass. The only face he knew for sure these days wasn't even his own anymore and he doubted he'd ever get it back.

The woman-like creature giggled as the drops soaked her, making her hair and clothes several shades darker. She stretched her legs out, the chilly bite of the charm-induced weather having little effect on her. The woman decided that the church would make a suitable place to sleep and got to her feet. It wasn't until she approached the edge of the roof until she noticed the other figure in the distance.
'Hmm, it appears this creature doesn't like the rain,' she thought with a smirk. She couldn't say whether or not he was familiar, because she knew better than most how easily an appearance is changed. It was a fifty-percent chance that he was foe rather than friend, because even though he was obviously not human he could end up being a territorial demon or something like that.
She shook her head, a spray of water from her hair splashing a gargole whose head long ago crumbled off. The woman held one foot over the edge as if testing it. A thin current of wind, invisible in the lashing rain, began swirling about her foot. It grew stronger, whipping the drops in several directions. When she felt it was strong enough, she hopped off the edge. The current of air whirled about her legs as she fell freely. The speed at which she fell suggested that it was a suicidal gesture, but before she hit the ground the whirlwind burst beneath her, making a cushion of air on which she landed lightly, as if she had only hopped off the crumbling stairs a few feet away.

Fire flickered within his left eye as a surge of emerald light washed out from the pupil of his right to coat his entire eye for a moment before fading away. His face twisted up for a half a moment before his head shook vigorously to one side with the accompaniment of a loud sneeze. The alternating bands of his eyes shifted in a one quarter turn clockwise as he studied the woman now on the ground before him. His eyes flicked up to the windows of the church and then to the buildings all around as though he were analyzing a battlefield. When finally his eyes came to rest upon the strange woman once more his eyes seemed to be quite a bit less spectacular, as though the light had gone from them.
A flicker of light danced about his shoulders. The light had indeed gone from his eyes but instead of residing within his body the source as now hiding behind his back as if fearful of the being before him. A single glimpse revealed what looked to be a pixie in the likeness of a tall slender woman with long fairy wings several times larger than what were truly necessary. The strangest thing would have to have been the simple idea that she was not just clad in green but looked to be built entirely of dark green light. And this sprite was not alone, but her counterpart was much less shy about his presence about Tac's body. Standing at an impressive two inches tall an absolute fury of a man stood composed of little more than surges of orange and black light in the shape of a man in sandals with a black scarf of some sort and long flowing hair down his back. The rest of the details were blurred. He cared little for the woman or even Tac and the green sprite for he was much too busy firing off mini fireballs at the drops of rain that tried to fall through. The puffs of steam seemed to delight the small figure to no end.
With a slight sigh Tac strode forward while leaving a deluge in his wake with eyes set upon this woman. At this point he was almost sure he did not know her but in this realm in this day and age he had lost all certainties. Through the sound of the rain he rose his voice ever so slightly to float to her, "I had not expected to find anyone in this relic of ages past, and I assume you are similarly surprised by a visitor." His eyes flicked to the skies, "These parts aren't known for rain. Your doing, I assume?"

The young woman blinked and then giggled, bring her hands up to her face in a childlike gesture. Her eyes flashed as she looked him up and down, as if reflecting her interest. The color melted quickly from green to blue, violet and then put forth rings of orange to perfectly mimick the strangers, if only for the briefest moment.
"I have to say, you're better than I expected," she said with a grin as her eyes slid back to green. "I was afraid I'd have to kill you in exchange for a peaceful night's sleep, but one such as you would probably kill me." She leaned to one side then, curiously examining the tiny creatures the stranger had brought along.
"Should I make it stop?" she offered, raising her arms as if to embrace the rain.

He quirked a brow and leaned over to one side and twisted so that he might look behind him before leaning the other way and twisting around to look back from the other side. During this the orange one continued blasting away at rain droplets as they increased in frequency while the green hung onto his back for dear life. He looked back to her with a confused look, "The hell are you looking at?" He resisted the urge to turn around and look once more as he was relatively sure if he did that the irony of the universe would drop a Mortivore or a Tarmaghoyf just to spite him. Though it occurred to him that he didn't really know what either of those are and could not actually place where those names had come from.
Though he still seemed uneasy about the idea of something behind him he couldn't know or couldn't see he strode forward so he wouldn't have to raise his voice. His gaze flicked up to her eyes and narrowed slightly, "If you do so prefer the rain and it is built by your doing there is not much I can do to stop it, now is there? It is not my place to disrupt the harmless whims of the individual. Unless, of course, you create a flood and destroy whatever history might be left within the ruins of this city." His eyes flicked back up to the church, "But that does not tell me why you are here." He made no mention of killing her or even combat directly, though whether he did so purposefully or not is unclear.

The woman did her best to stifle further laughter. Apparently he wasn't aware of his own summoning. She was able to read the subtle challenge, but still she was not the least bit threatened. After all, why would someone with such a large vocabulary want to kill her when no threat was issued?
"I'd never flood something so beautiful," the woman replied. "I'm just staying the night, and rain helps me sleep." She raised her hand to shake his, but again was distracted by the small beings. The little orange one was cute, but she was worried about the green one.
The woman slid her foot to the side, and with a speed only relic races could follow, moved close behind the stranger. Just as fast, though with delicate care, she gathered the green creature into her cupped palms and moved in front of the newcomer once more.
"Friend of yours?" she inquired sweetly, holding it up for his inspection.

His eyes followed her as though he was watching her move even before she did so but he did not interfere with her movement. When Cari was scooped up from Tac's back her wings disappeared in a puff of green smoke and she curled up into a ball. She was certainly not cold and not cowering in fear as these were unknown to her, but if nothing else she was shy beyond what many beings many times her size could understand. Even curled up as she was the bright green lines that defined her shape could be seen through her translucent skin and clothing. At her heart there burned the emerald brilliance that made up the core of her being with the pale green leotard and forest green flesh simply projections of her self-perceived appearance. Her hair was absolutely perfect, framing her face with the short strands while also remaining utterly stationary but retaining a lifelike quality despite its stillness. Around her waist several pinpoints of light defined a utility belt of sorts with her feet and wrists encased in what seemed to be a luminescent representation of steel with her fingers wrapped in gloves of the same white as her leotard. In all she looked less like a pixie when closely inspected but a scaled down version of a futuristic woman.
Tacitus had to stop himself from reaching out and taking her back immediately, with force if necessary. It showed in the twitch in his face and the restrained movements of his limbs before he shoved his hands in his coat pockets to stop himself. When she was presented to him he glanced to her and his abnormally slow breathing caught for a moment, "Y- yes. Her name is Caritas. S-she's shy around people whom she does not know." He held out his gloved hand with a visible shake to it, "C-can I have her back?" By this time the orange one, Orcus, was very nearly unleashing wave upon wave of flame at the ever increasing number of rain droplets slipping through Tac's rather unique umbrella. Oddly enough, despite how many times he had hit Tac's hair or other portions of the man's body nothing ever caught on fire.
Well, not for long anyway. Not Like Tac noticed it.

"Nice to meet you, Caritas," she said softly, tilting her head to one side with a kind smile. She placed the pixie gently on Tac's shoulder and said, "I'm Sylenne. You're very pretty." Sylenne then put her hands together, rubbing her palms in circles for a few moments before opening them again. Fluttering about in her hands were three tiny butterflies, glowing faintly the same translucent blue as the moon. It was only a manipulation of light, but they were the perfect size for Caritas. Sylenne let them flutter up to the pixie, circling around the creature in greeting.

He visibly relaxed as Sylenne placed Caritas upon his shoulders whereby her wings slowly unfolded from her back. She quickly shuffled out of sight to hide within strands of Tac's hair from which she peeked out to watch the diminutive butterflies with a sense of wonderment. Orcus, on the other hand, took note of the butterflies and began throwing fireballs at them with even more fury than he had directed towards the rain. At this offense by the psychotic little man Cari slipped from Tac's hair wielding a hammer many times her size and subsequently flattened Orcus rather completely. Tac had taken no notice of this aside from a one quarter clockwise turn of the bands of his irises, "Thank you. As I said, she's shy around those she does not know well, and I worry for her."

As Sylenne watched this odd display, her widened eyes had changed to a deep ruby color. She blinked twice and returned her attention back to Tacitus, seemingly unaware that her irises were now blending constantly from one color to another. She grinned and held out her hand.
"You seem very nice," she said happily. "I'm Sylenne. Want to get out of the rain? Even without windows the church is quite lovely."

((XD This vest and the two like it have a description that claims they are GPD standard issue. XD))
Tac indeed did not notice the changing of her eyes to the point where it seemed he did not or could not notice the change. He took her hand to shake it with a gloved hand that showed signs of being incredibly rough and weathered as though it had aged terribly. He nodded briefly, "A pleasure to meet you, Sylenne, I am Tacitus Nusradai. Don't mind the demon." His eyes flicked up to the church, "Aye, I'm no fan of the rain in most circumstances. Its mostly about getting my gloves wet, they're heavy enough as it is."

"Tacitus," she repeated thoughtfully. "Tass, Tack... I like it." Sylenne smiled again and turned around, skipping up the steps with a faery-like grace. With a bit of difficulty she pushed the tall doors open, which emitted a loud, weary groan. Once inside she headed up the spacious aisle past the rows of pews with faded red cushions. At the front was the stage set with the usual alter and tables full of half-melted candles, and an impossible tall organ with pipes filled with years of God knew what.
Sylenne went to a tall brass candelabra with dusty wax hardened to each of the three prongs. There was just enough left of the red candles to last an hour or so. She held out her first finger as if she wanted to poke it, and within a blink the tip was ignited. Soon she was only a blur as she dashed about lighting each of the candles left over from a forgotten life. By the time Tacitus would have entered, the room was filled with a soft warm glow.
Turning back towards the entrance, Sylenne held one arm up in a 'viola' sort of pose. She giggled at herself and combed her fingers through her soaked hair in an embarrassed sort of way, and a light blush dusted across her cheeks.
"It's nice to have company," she said softly, eyes falling to her wringing hands. "Even if just for a night. I haven't met any of our kind for some while, let alone my own species..."
