A soft breeze blew along the river, casting the leaves of autumn onto the surface to be pulled away by the current. Other leaves escaped the water, only to be dashed against trees or tangled in the waving grasses of the shore, but others still managed to survive to continue their dance through the air.
One such leaf continued down the river for over a mile, twirling and dancing, before it finally stopped, catching in the long dark curls of Zaphiro's mane as the stallion stood, lost in thought, staring out at the water.
Today, Zaphiro was out on his own. Though he deeply loved his family, there were times when he still wished to just go out and roam, and now that the children were fully grown he'd once again started to take time to just walk. Hienna, wonderful mare that she was, understood this unspoken deisre and never said a word about his ramblings, only greeting him with love when he came back to their cavesite. She was a gem alright...
"Master Zaphiro, are you aware that there is a leaf in your mane?"
The solemn voice cut in on Zaphiro's musings, drawing the stallion out of his thoughtful reverie to glance at the speaker, his familiar, Zaris. "No, I can't say that I am. Is there any problem with that?"
"No, of course not. I just wanted to mention it." Ruffling his feathers a bit importantly, Zaris shuffled his feet a bit so that his talons were more firmly but less sharply gripped Zaphiro's shoulder as he stood perched on his master's back, his sharp eyes constantly on the lookout for anything that might pose a threat to Zaphiro's safety. So far, the leaf was the only thing even worth note, but the hawk was fine with that. "Just in case you wished for me to remove it."

The small ebony mare was delighted, she was enthralled and completely inamoured with the colors of the leaves. She always was...she loved fall. The scent of dried leaves were her favorite and the large pumpkins that had been grown in the gardens of the two leggers. All of it.
Her azure feathers were put in her mane, but in her tail she had had Itzpapalotl intertwine red and orange leaves into it. Stunning against the dark color of it.
She had a smile upon that gentle face, and sparkling emerald orbs. For the little femme was well to put it bluntly. In love. She knew, she had liked him...but he hadn't expected it to come back full circle.
She liked the feeling of someone caring for her in that way. He was the protector of her heart and he did it well. And she would stand by his side and do the same. Her coffee colored muzzle led her into directions that were known and unknown...she was just going to get some air. Go for a much needed walk.

Accepting that Zaphiro had no issues with the leaf, Zaris humphed again back in his throat, then looked around the riverscape in his never-ending desire to see what was going on. This time, though, there was something different; another Soquili.
Shifting a bit, Zaris narrowed his eyes, studying the dark figure for a few moments. Small and dainty; looked like a mare, and not an exceptionally threatening looking one at that. Almost a pity...
Leaning forward, the hawk cleared his throat, once again attempting to get his master's attention. "Master Zaphiro? It looks like we have company."
His attention once more brought back from his musings, it took Zaphiro only moments to understand what Zaris was saying. "Oh really? Well, I suppose that it would behoove us to be polite, then." As he spoke, the dark stallion turned slightly, intending to identifty and greet their new companion; however, once he perceived who it was his expression changed to one of obvious surprise. "Cynara?"

The female turned her head, completely oblivious she was in the prescence of a former friend let alone anyone. Thoughts in day dreams again...Her orbs widened in suprise. "Zaphiro!" she gasped. She trotted closer, "Is it really you?" she laughed softly, in that same meliodic tone. "Of course it's you."
She remembered those golden eyes and those long curled locks. Hard to forget. "How've you been?" she smiled, delighted to see him.
She noticed the hawk as well...that was new. Her ears flickered forward. She wondered who the bird was. Her tail waved behind her in constant motion. So she didn't feel like she was sitting still for tooo long. Though it was a pleasantry to see such an old friend.

At the query as to whether or not he was himself, Zaphiro allowed himself to chuckle, her own clarification making further comment by him pointless. An interesting greeting, that, but then it had been a long time since they'd last seen each other; a long time indeed.
So he was able to smile and even chuckle slightly at the question, nodding acknowledgement of his identity. "Yes, it's just the same old me, probably still looking the same way as I used to. And I've been well; there's been a lot going on in my life since we last saw each other, but enough about me; how have you been? Has everything been alright for you?"
The last time they'd met, she'd been in a vicious arguement with that white stallion adn Zaphiro had been honestly afraid for her. She looked well, though, so hopefully things had worked out positively.

"I'm...outstandingly good." she replied. She had reason to, life was good to her in these days and she couldn't think of anything negative to drag it down at the moment. The teepee and it's inhabitants were growing, Ares seemed to be in love, she was in love, her brother had foals, and she seemed to be meeting up with her old friends. What could be better?
"No, no really...what's been going on in your life. I'd say my life has been bland but it really hasn't. But I'm positive you have stories to tell, no?" her soft eyes gazed to his. She did love listening to him, he was quite the intriguing one. He could entertain anyone, according to her standards.
She hadn't remembered the last time they met was the fight with Ares...thank god that was over.

What had he done, indeed. At the question, Zaphiro couldn't help the soft, loving smile that crossed his face at the thought of that which was most important to him, the acquisition of his mate and the birth of his children. There had been some dark moments mixed in with the light ones, but ultimately he knew he had more to be thankful with than otherwise.
Thinking on this, it was easy for him to answer Cynara. "Well, I settled down with a wondeful mare, and we've welcomed five children, though it pains me to say that only three are living." He couldn't hide the flicker of pain that passed over his face as he mentioned the terrible loss that had struck himself and Hienna when their first litter, two daughters, had been born stillborn. Yet their deaths hadn't lessened their import, and the two still regarded themselves as the parents of five. "The three are all grown and on their own now, but they all make a point of coming to see us often. But what have you been up to?"
After all, he'd had enough time to start a family; she probably had pulled off a lot since then as well. "And how is your father doing?"

"Same old, same old. Roaming and fretting," she smiled. "Though I met a stallion, haven't settled down with 2.5 foals and a dog yet but its been good. We're happy."
"Good for you!" she replied, she was happy for him. It was exciting he had gotten so far, though it didn't make her feel less of herself which was suprising. "I am sorry for your losses." she frowned, that would be hard. She sighed softly, trying not to dwell on the fact.
"Cyrus?" she laughed. "He's doing good, he has learned to distance himself from since I am with Blais. His little girl finally grew up and I think he realizes it now." she watched him. "I love him the same."
