Soaring up, up, up into the sky Aureate whinnied joyously. The sun was warm and golden on his black form, the wind whipping his mane and tail and singing joyously over his feathers. He folded his wings and dove, dropping toward the expanse of sea beneath him. Closer. Closer. Closer. NOW!
He snapped his wings open and caught the sea breeze back up, soaring back into the sky, laughing. This was the life! As a foal he had so longed to soar, as a Stallion it was all he knew and loved.
With an angle of his wings, he turned toward the woods, soaring over the tops of trees and letting his hooves dance against the emerald leaves. He pranced over the treetops, curling his hooves as he spiraled down to a clearing and landed with a flourish.
"What to do today?" He mused, folding his wings to his back, pleased with his aerial display.

 Dahlia was exploring through the forest, picking idly at some leaves, munching them lazily. A shadow passed over her quickly, and she looked up wondering what it was. Through the canopy of leaves she saw a form, a wind soquili dashing through the air. She smiled, catching only a few mysterious glimpses through the branches. She turned and followed his path until he landed in a clearing.
"Hello~" she called with a flick of her tail, peeking a bit shyly out from behind the treeline.

Spinning about with a flare of his wings and the wind tugging his mane all around him, Aureate blinked wide blue eyes at the sudden appearance of a mare. She peeked a delicate face around the trees, smiling faintly at him. Her greeting was offered in a sweet voice, and he smiled instantly.
"Greetings Fair Lady of the Forest." He replied in his usual smooth rumble, bowing and sweeping his wings wide. "I apologize if I have interrupted your musings, or invaded your home, it was not my intention."

The mare giggled shyly and stepped out towards him. "I don't live here," she said, "I live in the mountains. Just explorin.'" She looked over the stallion from mane to tail. "You have pretty wings."
She flipped her tail and looked up in the sky. "It must be nice to be able to fly. One of my daddies has wings like you." It suddenly occurred to her that she hadn't introduced herelf yet. "Oh!," she said, looking alittle embarrassed, "My name is Dahlia, by the way."

Aureate smiled and straightened, watching the lovely figure slowly revealed as she stepped away from the trees. She had markings like feathers and wings on her coat, but did not actually have wings. Her compliment made him smile.
"I thank you, Lovely lady... You are quite beautiful, if it is not too bold of me to say..." He tilts his head, considering her words. "Dahlia? Well met, Dahlia of the mountains. I too enjoy exploring..."
He tossed her a roguish smile. "What fortune is mine then, hmm? A pleasure to meet a fellow explorer..."

Dahlia's ears turned a deep pink at his compliment, but her smiled and almost indistinguishable nod was her answer to if she 'minded' the compliment or not. She cleared her throat after a moment and rolled her shoulders. "So, what's your name fellow explorer?"

Pretending not to notice her blush, Aureate smiled kindly. It was nice to make a new acquaintence... But.. He hadn't introduced himself!? Idiot!
Sweeping his wings wide, Aureate rumbled. "How rude of me! I apologize Lady Dahlia, I am Aureate, Son of Erik and Sekhmet... I am most sorry for not introducing myself earlier..."

The young mare bowed her head in response. "Nice to meet you, Aureate. My parents are Xandir and Sequoyah, they live in the mountains with me." She shook out her mane and twitched impatiently. "Know any fun places around here?"

Xandir? Sequoyah? Neither name was known to him, but Aureate filed them away in the back of his memory, fairly sure that Sibalto would know who they were. After all, the Silver Stalion went everywhere and met all sorts of people. If he didn't know the Soquili personally, he probably knew someone who did...
"Around here?" He asked. "Well, what do you consider fun?"
There were some great cliffs nearby, which he dove off of when he wanted to ride the thermals... And the sea wasn't too far, which was great if Pukka was up for a game of splash-tag... The forest where he often found Eponine and Nene was close...
But what did she consider fun?
"Do you like racing or exploring or walking in caves or swimming...?" He listed a few of his past adventures, tilting his head and considering her.

Dahlia found herself giggling, even though Aureate hadn't said anything particuarly funny. How curious. "I've never done either," she said, stepping a bit closer, "Unless you consider running away from your daddies 'racing,'" She giggled again at her own wit. "But I've never been in caves, are there caves around here?" Her eyes took on a more genuine interest. "That sounds like fun to me, I love to explore!"

Aureate smiled. "There are a few where the forest reaches towards the foot of the mountains.. If you'd like to explore, we can go there and see if we can find a cave..."
He chuckled. "I haven't been since I was a foal, but I'm sure there's one or two an adult could wind through, if you'd like to try..."

"I'm still small," Dahlia insisted, and it was somewhat true. Though she was no filly anymore, she was still very young and had not yet completely grown into her long legs. "I live in the mountains, but I've never gone looking for caves, it definitely sounds like fun. What's inside? Is it dark? Creepy?" Her questions weren't those of hesitation but excited speculation. "Well, you know better me, so I'm following you." She nudged him, her excitement turning into giddiness by the second.
A small part of her brain reminded her that her fathers would worry if she was late coming home, and she’s already been out for several hours. But she was enjoying Aureate’s company immensely, and the lure of a new adventure was too seductive to resist.

Aureate laughed and fanned his dark wings, resting one over her back as he stepped forward, gently urging her along. "Come on then.. And though you are quite dainty, my Lady... A stallion of my phisique-"
He flapped his wing gently against her back. "Finds it somewhat difficult to maneuver in small spaces.. However, since you are so interested, I shall do my best... And yes, it is often dark in caves... But I think it is rather nice, not creepy..."

Dahlia felt the inside of her ears burning again as he laid his wings gently over her back, though the girlish elation was tainted by the faint undercurrent of a deep-rooted jealousy. She yearned for wings of her own, but despite her fur having the appearance and even texture of feathers, she had no wings, so flight would never be an option for her.
“Dark is nice,” she said after a moment, hoping conversation would quell her young and confusing emotions. “I like the night time almost as much as the day, maybe it’s something like that… but no stars.” She followed alongside him eagerly.

Aureate nuzzled her cheek, laughing softly. She was a very pretty thing, and he had no trouble at all spending time with her.
"Ahhh, But you underestimate me fair lady..." He murmured. "Would I give such a prize a night without stars? Nay! I would bring them to you with every song in me... I think I know just the place to show you, if you will but follow and trust in me..."
He rumbled another laugh, winking at her. "Do you trust me, Lovely Dahlia?"
He rolled her name in his mouth like it was made of music, making every letter part of a song.
