The gray sky overhead reflected Donner’s mood perfectly: dour, unpleasant, and constant. Not even the slightest patch of sunlight glinted through that thick veil of clouds, just as nothing pleasant came from Donner at the moment. The bull reindeer was NOT happy… Anlach was coming, which made him moodier than normal, but his grim temper came from more than just the fact that he still didn’t have any cows in his harem. Partly, he was angry with Dasher for being such a fool and allowing himself to be seen by the nearby red deer herd. But, mostly, he was just angry with himself for actually meeting one of those deer. Fool…
He briefly rubbed his antlers against a young sapling with far more force than was necessary, splitting the wood on it. This did nothing to lighten his mood, since he was now itchy and annoyed. This was all that stag’s fault! There was no doubt in Donner’s mind that, one day, that meeting would come back to bite him and his herd right on the tail. And it would bite hard. Donner’s tail flicked slightly as he nibbled on some grass, trying to make himself feel better with food. It wasn’t a healthy response, perhaps, but it was the only thing he could think of doing. The herd wasn’t going to completely gather for a few days, so the only other deer he could talk to was Dasher.
And he did NOT want to talk to Dasher right now. Maybe Blitzen was around… she would understand the danger of letting the red deer know where they were. The bells on his neck jingled merrily, clashing harshly with his snort. Wait… he sniffed the air a couple more times, smelling a familiar cow, one who could easily lighten his spirits. Sesilida. Donner smiled a little, and set off in that direction, hoping to talk to her alone again.

It had been a while since the herd had been together, and Sesilída had not yet heard the news of the red deer meeting Donner and Dasher. She did, however, have something else on her mind: Anlach was coming again. Didn't they all have this on their minds?
This year her thoughts were different, though... Last Anlach her concerns were centered around being left alone by Glosoli, and this year she had the suggestion of Donner and the more recent suggestion of Dasher hovering in the back of her mind. Or the front of her mind, either way.
The cloudy day didn't make a whole lot of difference to her; all she knew was that she didn't feel any warmth on her fur from the sun, so she allowed her eyes to remain open without fear of burning them. She stood grazing, ears alert and swiveling, periodically lifting her head to sniff the air.
A jingling in the distance was the first thing to catch her notice, but she didn't react. Someone from her herd was nearby. When it got louder she nosed the air for a few moments until she recognized the scent of Donner coming her way. Immediately she lowered her head to the ground, not wanting to seem like she was anticipating his arrival. Why was this? She couldn't say. It was always less awkward if she let the others know that she could sense who they were, but still she waited for him to say something first.
