Zuri couldn't believe his luck. A few days ago he had been wandering aimlessly, bored and alone, and now he was actually headed somewhere. On top of that, with a beautiful and charming lady! He grinned thinking about it, looking ahead to where said lady was leading them on their trek to the sea.

He trotted forward and nudged her shoulder with his. "How far do you think it is to the sea, Ianthe?"

Not that he minded. It could take months and months and he would be happy to follow the lavender dog there.

Ianthe, at this tiem, had managed to find herself a wonderful flower to wear behind her ear. It pleased her so much to have one, and praced around all the time with it. She knew it would die eventually, but for now, she would love it's beauty.

Her ears popped up as she heard Zuri speaking to her. She puased and turned to him, a bright smile on her face. "Ummm," she said, somehow brightly. "I hope it's not too far, I can't wait to see it! I was told that the air starts to smell different once you get near it though..."

Zuri smiled at her, admiring the flower. He hadn't noticed it before. He liked it. He would have to find her another one when that one wilted.

Shaking his head, he chuckled at her answer. "Perhaps we should ask the next creature we meet if they know the way?" he suggested, tilting his head.

A different smell, hm..? Well, that made some sense at least. After all, water did have a certain scent...

Ianthe bobbed her head vigerously as she completly agreed with Zuri. "Yes we should! I really can't wait to get there...." she looked off towards the east, where she thought that the sea was. For some reason, though, she always seemed to get just a bit off course, and would nearly have to start over again. Maybe with Zuri at her side, she would keep herself in a straight line and actually make it there someday.

"Do you think it's far, Zuri?" She turned to him, hopeful in his answer, as if she really needed him to reassure her that they were going the right way. She was leading the way, after all.

Zuri shook his head thoughtfully, looking up at the clear sky, as if it would point the way. "I'm sure it won't take long once we know which way we need to go!" He said cheerfully, leaping up onto a large rock and gazing across the horizon for any clues.

A speck coming towards them made him grin a doggy grin, and he hopped back down to Ianthe, nudging her cheek with his nose. "Think that bird knows the way?" He asked jokingly, tail wagging.

A bird? The pink-eyed dog quickly glanced up to the sky, trying to catch the sight of what Zuri had mentioned to her. Oh, there it was! Her ears swiveled forward as she saw the bird seem to come a bit closer to the ground, but not quite landing anywhere. She barked at the bird, hoping it would notice and swing back down there way.

"Hey! Hey!" she called out, her head craned upwards to the sky, not quite paying attention to where she was going. Her tail bobbed behind her as she pranced around in a circle, still hoping to catch the attention of the high-flyer.

Zuri had been joking, but as he watched Ianthe, he realized there was no good reason why they couldn't ask the bird... provided it was willing to talk to them.

It circled the two dogs curiously for a moment, then dipped lower to loop over their heads, still a little too suspicious to land.

"Whatchoo want, barkydogs?" it chirped, flicking its tailfeathers teasingly.

Ianthe grinned at the greeting, not realizing that it was something that better-thinking Wild Dogs might take to be a bit offensively. SHe, in her little mind, decided that it was a super duper nice bird, if just for the fact that it had noticed her and decided to investigate further, instead of flying away.

"Do you know the way to the ocean, pretty bird?" she replied, giving the bird a comment. Most beings liked a compliment, all being a bit vain in their own right. Probably the only thing Ianthe ever learned from trying to ask others for favors of all kinds.

Zuri wasn't as amused by the bird's greeting as Ianthe appeared to be, and he showed it. He lifted an eyebrow and gave the bird a sharp look as it circled lower, but let Ianthe do the talking. After all, he didn't want to scare it away!

The bird fluffed its feathers up and landed a few feet away on a rock, tilting its head at Ianthe and looking smug. "The ocean?" it repeated, clicking its beak. "Maybe. What does the barkydog give us if it wants to know, hmm?" it asked, hopping from foot to foot and eying Ianthe. "Pretty flower, maybe?"

"Hey!" Zuri growled, glaring at the bird. He then fell silent again, deferring to Ianthe, but inwardly fuming. Nasty little creature, demanding payment for a simple question!

"Flower?" she repeated slowly, wondering if...the bird wanted her flower? Sure, she wore flowers all the time, but to actually give one up?

She paused for a moment, the little war going on in her mind taking up all of her energy. Oh, they were her flowers though, why did the bird want one of those? She would have bitten the bottom of her lip if she could of, full of indecision and anxiety filling her chest.

"Oh...oh, alright," she replied, agreeing to the terms. While she horribly loved her flowers, and took the best care of them she could while they were still pretty, her real one dream was to see the ocean. Sometimes you had to give something up to gain something else.

The bird ruffled its feathers smugly, hopping forward to pluck the feather from behind Ianthe's ear with a tiny claw, then quickly hopped back out of reach of Zuri, who was glaring at it. "Well, you've been going the right way, for the most part." The bird chirped, standing on one foot so it could hold the flower up to examine it with the other. "I expect it would be easier for me to show you the way, rather than tell you." Its beady eyes flicked to Zuri cautiously. "Which I would be happy to do, provided you can ensure my.. safety." Zuri swallowed a growl, and nodded his head. "We won't harm you." He told it, looking sideways at Ianthe and hoping she would be cheered by the prospect of having a guide.

Ianthe's ears flicked backwards as she felt the flower leave it's normal place on her skull, but they soon swiveled back forward as she listenend intently at the bird. So they had been going the right direction. It almost felt like a waste, but if it would ensure that she and Zuri would make it to the sea, well, it was worth it.

She was a bit confused on this 'saftey' thing, since she never had any ill will against the bird, she was just a bit upset on loosing her flower, but perhaps she could find another one later. "Nope, Ianthe wouldn't ever do that!" she exclaimed. "We just want to make it to the ocean!"

The bird had hummed happily to itself, giving a few flaps of it's wings as a warning before it flew off, leaving the pair of wild dogs to trot after the small bird. It'd be a long journey, and they'd just have to keep their faith that the little bird would guide them!
