Me, with my penchant for melodrama, came to a slightly different idea... or two blaugh

Perhaps the woman and Edmund are related - would explain the family closeness, And that she was married to Vlad first - making Durem her and Edmund's home town (explaining Edmund's extreme dislike of the Von Helsons and why his shop is right next to their manor). So when she and Vlad split, he encouraged her to get with his friend Jonny K who'd keep her safe (explaining why Edmund isn't on Gambino island yet Gambino himself shops at his store).

Edmund and Jonny best friends since school, both fell in love with the woman; she chose Gambino for his wealth, had a fling with Vlad who started to abuse her - she runs to Edmund, trusting him to keep her safe and take her home - hence his massive guilt!


I'm also still working on my pet theory that Edmund is a Buffy Style Watcher - I mean, he looks like Giles, he fights like Giles, dresses like Giles and has a store called H.R Wesley - Wesley is another watcher... LOL
