((This is a private RP for Kanoa's bonding to kami. o.o Should be just me an' Sosi unless she says otherwise.))

It was going on day three now since Kami decided to leave Gaia with Kanoa but some nagging thought in the back of her mind kept holding her from it. Instead she rented a small room for what she assured the lease owner would be 'temporary', but as the days progressed, it was becoming more and more comfortable. In any case, she couldn't just leave. There was still alot she didn't know about Kanoa or his kind. She'd head toward the headquarters later and try to speak with someone again, her last two atemps thwarted by random means. For now, they were partaking in the quant little cafe just below their flat.

"Uhtdoh!" Kanoa chimed as the stack of roleplay dice he was playing with fell over.

He clapped gleefully as the multicolored blocks skittered across the tabletop. As he clambered about to gather them up, he picked up a clear diamond shaped die and glanced at the glass of water sitting before his newfound guardian and toddled over. The concept was simple, It looked like the other clear boxes in her cup so that's where it should be. Standing on his toes, he hefted the die over the lip of the cup and watched as it sank in among the cubes of ice looking rather natural. As natural as an icecube with numbers COULD look anyway.

He seemed to take this in proudly as Kami reached down retrieving the glass from the table, not taking a moment to look up from her paper and rose the glass taking a hearty drink. At first she didn't react at all, then suddenly she chuffed a mouthful of water back into the glass. Trying to set the glass down before she began to hack and choke. With a disgusting hack, the die plopped from her mouth and bounced delightfully on the cobble stones of the patio. Kanoa giggled and squealed with joy as he watched from is table side seat, gasping as he watched his die roll away.

"Uhtdoh!! Uhtdoh!!" He cried pointing after it in worry. She rose from her chair and fetched the die, returing to the table to gather the others in a small gunny sack. Kanoa giggled and tried to grab at her fingers making a game of it.

"OOoh y' lil tricky thing, trying t' kill me are y'?" She chuckled, a bit of water still caught in her though as she coughed. "Or is that your way of tellin' me to get a move on, eh?" She cooed holding out her hands to him. The tiny boy hunkered down and gave a hearty leap into her waiting palms, his wings carrying him a bit steadier this time around. "Good boy! Okay then, carpe diem and all that." She cooed leaving the pay for her meal and gathering her gear heading into town.

Pushing open the wooden door of the Headquarters, Kami's large ears pitched forward as she peeked inside. Kanoa tried to imitate her peeking over the edge of her finger tips as far as he could into the building. The rather cheerful layout of the place looking that much more alien to her now that she got to get a decent look at it.

"Hellooo...?" She called into the barren room.

"Hedoooo...ooo..!" Kanoa chirped in chorus making her giggle softly.

"Yes, hello." She chuckled down at him as she stepped inside fully. She was never fond of still places the mixing of scents in the room throwing off her sense of smell also making her slightly on guard.

"Yehedo!" He tried to repeat back to her, happy enough with it to yell it out as merily as he pleased. "Yeeeeeehhhedooooooo~~~~!!!" She winced as his tiny but shrill voice reverberated into her sensitive ears. If that didn't get anyone's attention, Kami wasn't sure what would.

For a moment, there was nothing.

Then, suddenly, a small, agitated-looking... fairy?... appeared in front of them, pressing one finger to her lips urgently. "Shhhhhhh, oh, shhhh, the Lady is sleeping. Noisy things!" the fairy tittered, kicking her feet back and forth in mid-air.

The almost pregnant silence that followed the joyous roar almost bathed the building in an uncomfortable air that was before,

"Shhhhhhh, oh, shhhh, the Lady is sleeping. Noisy things!"

Had she not said anything, Kami would have coined it up to a moth disturbed by the child's voice. Kanoa squealed delightfully at the display of colors and movement before him as the fairy appeared chastizing them both for their loudness. Reaching for her as best he could, wings flapping awkwardly. Her ownfluttering wings brought to mind one familiar thing in his memory and he jerked a finger at her. "Burd! Burdburd!!"

Kami cupped a hand to hover over his head hissing softly through pursed lips. "Be calm, darling. She's not a bird." She cast curious eyes on the agitated creature leaning in as far as she'd allow to sniff at the air before it. "Though.. Ah can't say Ah've seen a pixie for quite some time. We didn't mean to disturb your lady." Standing back upright, Kanoa having hopped to grab her hand, gnawing bitterly upon the webbing between her finger and thumb spitting out a mouthful of fur.

The fairy deftly dodged Kanoa's fingers and shook her finger at him scoldingly, then turned to Kami. "He is unconnected, yes, we see, we see, you want to see the Lady and fix him, hmm?" She cocked her head at Kami, then flitted to the door that led away from the common areas of HQ. "For her children's sake, she will see you, come, come, come. QUIET," she added, giving Kanoa a frown.

Unconnected? This phrase brought even more questions than answers as the broken reply cut off all her attempts to speak. She had to breathe a puff of air into her bangs to bite her tongue and follow behind the fairy toward the door. She was unaware that there may be something wrong with Kanoa that required fixing, Maybe she shouldn't have taken him from Kit's house, she was still unsure of these people's ways, and swallowed the lump of immenent dread forming in her throat.

Kanoa was the very picture of innocence, staring up at the fairy in rare silence. This was short lived, at least for innocence sake as he began to scuffle about in Kami's hand again climbing up her arm and across her chest to get under her chin. He jutted his chin out in an indignant pout from his little hovel in her shirt collar.

The fairy stopped in front of a door, and nodded. "Lady, lady, lady, the little flibbertygibbet is here!" Then she vanished, motes of light drifting around Kami and Kanoa.

"Come in," said a soft voice from within the darkened room.

"Sorry we disturbed your nap." Kami stated trying to seek out the origin of the voice before moving any further. Her search was fruitless however and she found that she was forced to enter the room anyway.

Kami peered into the darkness, stepping gingerly into the frame of the door as she let her eyes adjust. Kanoa shifting in hier perch at her throat, doeish eyes finding the darkness to be quite comfortable from the cheerfully brightness outside.

The room was dark, with curtains drawn tightly over the open windows. Occasionally, light would peek in as the curtains were stirred by a faint breeze, only to fall back again and dip the room back into shadow. There were only a few pieces of furniture, but in the far back of the room furthest from the door was a divan couch with a pale figure laying on it. Whenever a ray of light happened to fall upon her, it became obvious that she was fading, her skin pale and translucent, with the fabric of the divan flickeringly visible underneath.

"A young one, so young... you are so young for this," the figure whispered, holding out one hand towards Kanoa. "So young to have your bond severed. It is good to come so soon. Perhaps he will not even remember this trembling time. The fading is barely there," she said, opening her eyes. They were bright blue, surprisingly so.

Stepping closer to the figure, the multitude of questions seemed to rattle off in her mind but she didn't say a word. All that she could muster was a half choked grunt as she felt the weight lift off her chest. Kanoa, as he was known to do, sprung from his nest for the open hand of the figure. His little wings letting him glide most of the way in his awkward desent to her palm.

The fur along the back of Kami's neck rose in apprehension as she watched Kanoa seemingly just miss her hand and thump softly to the floor just before her. Something in those eyes made her take a step back instinctively. The toddler didn't seem phased at all from the bumpy ride and sat up waiting patiently to be retrieved by the stranger.

"I..didn't mean any harm..." the girl said finally, her own voice now sounding quite alien in her own ears.

"I do not blame you," the figure said, shifting slightly, so that the blanket that covered her legs slipped a bit to rest near Kanoa. "Come, little one - I cannot come down to see you, so you must climb to see me..." Her gaze shifted back to Kami. "I am Airi," she said, softly. "I am never sought without a reason, and yours is clear to me. The little one, where is his proper Guardian?"

Ears canted outward, the girl gave Airi a look of confusion, for it was the first time she was refered to directly by this nearly ghostly figure.

Seeming to understand what was requested of him, Kanoa obediently brought himself to his feet and stepped into the cloth. Tiny claws catching hold in the fabric as he made the steady spider-like ascent up to where the figure lay. His large round ears wobbling high over the crown of black hair as he tried to study her features, a hiccup of sonar giving very little information as most of the sound wafted through her.

Kami thought to give her own name, her mouth falling open a milimeter then drawing shut tightly as the question was asked. She felt her cheeks burn lightly as pale glowing eyes cast down at the floor, "She's not coming back." she stated, looking back to Airi to further explain. "Ah don' know where she is, but she left a note."

"Ah..." Airi held out one hand towards Kanoa, much easier now that he was at her level. "So young for such things. And you are?" Her sharp blue eyes focused on Kami's with sudden intensity. "How are you connected to this little child?"

She felt rooted in place by those eyes, a dry lump rising in her throat as she formulated her answer having to lower her eyes to keep her wits about her. It wasn't often that she felt intimidated and her instincts were battling with her wits. Her tail curling under her legs as her ears folded back against her skull.

"Ah..was called upon by Kit to help babysit as she worked during th' day." There wasn't much else she could say, or rather could say without her voice rattling as it came from her. Ignoring her want to take the child and make a run for it.

All of this was lost on Kanoa however, the small boy giggling contently as he hoisted himself into her hand, grinning as he lie belly flat against her palm. This stranger's hand was much different from the hands of people he'd sat in before. It seemed to give a little more, more like a pillow and it was soft! He mouthed absently at her exploring more.

"N'sof.." He cooed petting at her hand with tiny fingers. Smiling up at Kami. "Sof sof!"

Kami's gaze drifted from the floor and again were caught in the blue ones staring at her so fiercely. She didn't see it before but it was a look she knew well. While still rather unsettled, she felt her tension ease. This was a look of one mother to another, whether or not she was the child's true mother was unknown to the Chetorian, but their maternal concern for the young fa'e was mutually felt.

"So you are caring for the child... but then the Guardian left?" Airi raised one eyebrow, waiting for confirmation that this was right. Then she glanced down and smiled faintly at Kanoa. "You are strong yet. No, I do not think you will remember what it is to fade, if you even feel it, little one."

"Trust me, Ah don't understand it either." Kami shruged lifting her hands defensively. "She called me to visit but didn't tell me why until Ah got there, then asked if Ah could babysit for her as she went to work. This went on for at least two months Ah'd say." She paused to sit down cross legged on the floor, "Then, three days ago, Ah put th' lil guy down for a nap an' wake up with this note laying next t' me."

Kanoa replied to the compliment with a broad smile. His ears flopping happily atop his head as he sat himself upright.

There was that fading term again, Kami cocked her head curiously, "Ah.. Ah'm sorry, but what do you mean t' fade? Is it a natural thing for..Fa'e to do?"

((had to go back into my other posts and give Kami back her accent XD; sorry))
