Dead Beat
Paranormal investigations are Harry Dresden's business, and Chicago is his beat as he tries to bring law and order to a world of wizards and monsters that exists alongside everyday life. And though most inhabitants of the Windy City don't believe in magic, the Special Investigations department of the Chicago PD knows better.
Karrin Murphy is the head of SI and Harry's good friend. So when a killer vampire threatens to destroy Murphy's reputation unless Harry does her bidding, he has no choice. The vampire wants the Word of Kemmler (whatever that is) and all the power that comes with it. Now Harry is in a race against time --- and six merciless necromancers --- to find the Word before Chicago experiences a Halloween night to wake the dead...

"Anyone who lets me ride their dinosaur can call me Carlos." Freaking necormancing that T-rex had to have been the coolest peice of magic, EVER. Freaking AWESOME. That is my favoriate part in the entire series. This was also Lash's first appearence which was cool too. She was a great character.
Harry kissing her though was really kind of creepy/wrong. sweatdrop

Hah, yeah. I was just like 0_o; to his 'romance'. I loved it when she almost got him to run out of the window of the building. That part was nicely done. ^^
Dude, I LOVE SUE. Like, when I first realized what Harry was about to do, I literally put the book down for a moment and was like 'Oh my GOD! THAT'S SO COOL!' And then continued to read. biggrin

Carlos is so young, significantly younger than harry anyways, and yet he has a ton of skill, even if a lot less raw power than Harry. What the heck is up with that? I like his cool little green blasts though.

When I went to Chicago last year for a wedding, I made sure to stop by the Field Museum and see Sue. Because of this book. (The Field Museum was really cool though)

This book was lots of fun. It was sort of like Harry meets "Night at the Museum" in some ways, and everyone was in top form. This one ranks up there as my favorite after "Summer Knight".
