How do you write a paper when you have no clue what you are typing to say?
I am writing a character analysis and i don't know how i want to desribe the character. It's supposed to be 3-5 pages long double spaced. Im worried i will hardly make it over two pages. I am really bad at paper writing. We had to take this big state-wide writing test and you needed a 3 to pass....i just barely passed with a 3.5 so that just shows you that i am horrible at this. I might just start writing and see what i get but i know that it wont be good quality and it will be hard. Oh and on top of that im a horrible procrastinator and saved it for the last day, the rough draft is due tomorrow. gonk

When it came to English, I waited to do it at lunch before English. But what's the character analysis about? Are you allowed to open the paper with a story? If not I have no idea. sweatdrop

Well i have lunch in the middle of English, my school is kinda messed up, so that won't work. The character analysis is of Helena in a midsummer nights dream.
And you i think i can start the paper however i want, i need an attention getter and a thesis. I also need to have at least three body paragraphs. I cant seem to decide what i think of the character though, sometimes she seems strong and loyal and then i think of another time when she seems weak and when she seems disloyal to Hermia. So i just don't know what i want to say about her. Also reading manga is sooooo much more interesting and its hard to concentrate. >.> sweatdrop

>o< Tehee. I did that in class, the book and movie. I'm trying to remember what one is Helena though. Your attention getter could be a small story about her. Or use one of her quotes as an intro? I'm not good with thinking of a thesis.

Well Helena is the one who was in love with Demetrius and he didn't return her love. For my thesis i just have to say Helena is blah blah blah (whatever i say in my 3 body paragraphs summarized) and the attention getter i think i could use a quote. The problem is that i just cant seem to get started because I'm afraid it will go nowhere.

Oh ok, I remember her.

And that's the bad part about papers, starting them. But once you get the intro done I'm sure you'll get it done smoothly. cool

But i cant start with the intro because in the intro i have to summarize the whole paper. So i think i have to write the body first. Dang manga is so good i cant stop reading. sweatdrop

A trick for ya, but don't go overboard with it, or the teacher will... not be happy... if he/she can tell you did it...

1st, write as much as you can... just try... when you think you can't write any more, go back and "fluff" everything up with details, english teachers LOVE that...

2nd (in ms word, and prolly every other word processing program out there) go to (at the top of the screen, on the menu bar) "format" and click "font"... then go to the "character spacing" tab, click on the "spacing" option and select "expanded"... now, 1pt expanded is prolly gonna be too much, but *probably* anything .5pt and under should be ok... if you don't have enough to make the 3 page limit, then you need to write more... and you don't wanna go too much over the minimum, it reduces the chances the teacher will catch it...

Now, remember, the teacher will be looking at your paper with the others, and if it looks *too* different, then they might say something, but if it's not too noticeable, then they probably won't notice/care... and it works when they specify which font and what size they want... ^_^

One way to make a character analysis paper longer is to always start out with "There are many sides to the characters of

Then by doing that you can write how the same character while strong and whatever is weak at the same time becuase that would kind of be the theme of the paper. At the same time it'll be filled with the kind of BS that english teachers love because it looks like an indepth character analysis but is really just putting in every side of the character to take up space.

Q's Guide to Bullshitting:

1.) Use lots of quotes, and use them well. Works Cited page doesn't count toward page count (usually), but citing and quoting adds beef to papers you don't want to write. And when it's not a requirement to use outside sources, you get smartpoints.

Level of Unneeded Effort Applied: 4/5

2.) Use larger than normal font. The lrisk evel of this one is high and most teachers can tell what you did. But you may just luck out anyway.

Level of unneeded effort applied: 1/5

3.) Use big words, and make sentences longer. "I took the dog for a walk" can turn into "Today, I decided to go on a leisurely stroll with my german shepard. He and I love walking."

Level of unneeded effort: 3/5

4.) Most papers you have to write in third person. Use it to your advantage! There are plenty of words you can just throw around in the english language. Throw them around. (However, that which, moreover, coincidentally, in conclusion, preceeding this, predating that, moving on...)

Level of unneeded effort: 2/5

5.) My personal favorite, make periods 2 - 3 points larger than your normal font. This period is normal size. This period is size 15.
Notice a difference? No? Neither will your teacher. wink Introducing different sizes of periods vs. normal font may seem like it's not doing anything, but it affects character spacing and it will actually allow you ot have less words on a page. cool

level of unneeded effort: 3/5, but well worth it.

Thus concludes Q's top 5 methods for slacking off and Bullshitting. Have a good day!

12.5 is usually undetectable and a ******** life saver. >.>

Wow... I never thought of changing the font size of the periods... o_o

Oh well, seeing as how I'm pretty much done PERMANENTLY with english classes... I will hopefully never need to use that... ^_^

well thanks to everyone for the help
i didnt get the points for my roughdraft
i havnt written it yet, but im going to have pixie help me this weekend
i dont think i will vchange the font size because if the teacher is looking at it with the others it will be noticable
and i really should be able to write 3 pages double spaced and if i cant then that just proves more that i fail at writing papers
it is supposed to be three to five
i want to at least try to hit the minimum without changing font stuff and all that.
Thanks everyone for all the good ideas
i love the period thing XD

(Oh man, those ppers are one reason why I hated American school...)

Anyways, my advice is that you describe everything. In detail. Write these insanely long sentences that look good but actually don't really have that much info.
