(( If you've specified interest in plotting with Yen Ha via my interest thread then please feel welcome to post here. If you want to RP here but haven't posted interest in the plot thread then go do so now xD ))

Yen Ha was growing up. He was still small and weedy and he probably always would be. Compared to some of his brothers and sisters he truly looked like a runt, but now, early signs of his mane was growing in as tufts between his ears and he couldn't help but feel rather proud of it.

He wasn't a cub anymore!

It was strange to think that a simple thing as longer fur was considered to be something amazing, but as every lion knew, a full mane meant adulthood. It meant wisdom and experience, everything that Yen Ha craved. He wanted to know everything about everything, he wanted to learn about deserts and jungles, about rodents and antelope. He wanted to learn about life and death, about the stars and the moon. He wanted to stretch horizons with the power of his mind.

Yes, he found nothing more enjoyable than learning and so this little one was always full of questions.

He lay now in the grass, his back slightly arched and his head down. Both ears were pinned forwards, clearly focused on something. Beneath his forepaws wriggled a mouse. It was a fat, beady-eyed, little mouse which nipped at the lion's paw with it's teeth. Yen Ha didn't seem to notice. He waved his tail merrily and watched it squirm.

He wondered, why would a mouse fight against a lion?

Surely such a battle was a pointless effort. What chance did the little mouse have after all? He wasn't a big or strong lion but even he held the capacity to outwit a mouse. Why didn't it just give in? Did it know that this was just an experiment? Was it wise enough to realise that actually, Yen Ha didn't have any ill intentions towards it.

The mouse sank it's teeth into the sensitive flesh between his toes and Yen Ha decided it was time to finish the experiment. He raised his paws and watched the creature dart off into the grass.

"Maybe they're smart after all." Yen Ha declared, curling his tail high.

It was the one thing Mzuza could not figure out. No matter how much she stared, glared, leered, or looked at it any other way, she couldn't get the rock to move. It was actually more like a pebble, smooth and flat, and rather light. She had had it since shortly after her first trip out of the den, refusing to let anybody else touch it. For the most part, it lived up in Pride Rock, where she had found a good place to hide it, but there were days when she would take it out and try to work her magic.

But it never worked, and though she never really gave up trying she had come close to it a few times. Most days, nothing would happen, but where were times when she could swear she had seen the pebble twiggle. Of course, that didn't mean in any way that others believed her any more, but it was good enough for her.

She decided she had tried enough for the day, and gently moved the rock and hid it under a shade - nobody touch that - and wandered on. The brown princess had recently become a juvenile. She was just about to fall into a state of contemplating the progression of life when movement caught her eye. The gray-brown form of a terrified little mouse darted by, not a pace from where her paws were. Mzuza tilted her head and followed its route back. A white juvenile was lying in the grass, watching the mouse. Well that was weird.

"Aren't you supposed to eat the mice you catch?"

Yen Ha was perhaps more startled to see another than he let on. His green eyes widened and his head arched up to face her. A young female. He scented the air to try and pick up any familiarities but couldn't place it. He had yet to meet any of the royal family. Slowly both ears tipped forwards and he blinked, coming out of his trance.

Yes, he was sure, another one was here.

"I'm not hungry." He replied finally, swishing his tail from side to side. "Besides I was running an experiment." He smiled. Maybe he could experiment on this one! He tried to think of way to pounce her as he had done the mouse, but somehow she looked stronger than him. No...he should stick to mice for now, much less likely to get attacked himself.

He stood, arched his back into a leisurely stretch and then glanced towards her again. "I was taught not to waste food." He eyed her suspiciously. "Do I know you?" Had she been spying on him? Had she been looking in on his experiments! That knowledge was his as far as he was concerned and he didn't want any strangers looming over him to take a peek.

Mzuza blinked. Experimenting on mice? It was so different from what she was used to hearing from her siblings, and from what she had expected he would say. Perhaps just the 'I'm not hungry,' or something else lame like 'I didn't want to eat it,' but not anything about an experiment. So far as she knew, other lions her age didn't do anything as sophisticated as experiments. But now, of course, he had proven her wrong. "What... kind of experiment?" She asked, almost suspiciously. It didn't seem like he was lying, but she could never be sure.

The copper juvenile shrugged and shook her head. "I don't know a lot of lions." She said somewhat airily. She stopped with the tone. "I don't think I've seen you around before, so I'd go with... no?" She smiled and batted her eyes with mock coyness. Seeing his panicked expression, she giggled and rolled her eyes. "Relax, its not like I've been spying on your experiments or anything." His expression was easy enough to read that she had been able to pick up what he was thinking about. It wasn't as if she was really any good at it. She needed really obvious signs to really be able to read another's body language.

((sorry for the wait hon, didn't notice that you replied @_@ ))

"I wanted to...well it's none of your business." He stamped a little paw and wrinkled his nose. It wasn't that he was a bad or mean lion. He just had no idea how to socialise with other lions, he had been alone for so long that he'd never learnt how to be around anyone other than his mother and father. He didn't see much of them nowadays either.

"Me either." He replied slowly. "I keep to myself...mostly."

Luckily for her, Yen Ha was one of those easy to read people. He was getting nervous now. He wasn't sure what to say or do so he shifted from paw to paw, his bran whirring with an idea. What could he say? He dropped his ears and looked at her with smoky green eyes, the eyes that had blessed him with his name. Ah ha, name!

"I'm Yen Ha." He spoke proudly. "Who are you, girly?"

((Oh, it's okay! I never got the chance to go round to all my RPs and post that I'd be gone for a few days, so xD))

Mzuza shrugged. "Fine, have it your way." She was quick to forget undesirable clashes between herself and others, so she quickly did away with any curiosity she had for his experiments. If he didn't want to tell her, she was okay with that, and she wouldn't keep on asking. It was one of many things that perplexed her siblings and most that she met, her ability to so swiftly let something go. But she had never been the nagging kind. She thought it distasteful and extremely annoying. For the most part, she realized that if she didn't annoy others, they would generally follow her example and leave her alone when she so desired.

She nodded a little, sensing his discomfort. She was just wondering what she could say to break the uneasy silence when he spoke up. "Don't call me 'girly!' I'm a-" She stopped. Crap, she had almost done it. She had always made a point of not pulling rank around others, and she was glad she had cut herself off in time. "I'm Mzuza." She said, correcting herself.

He swished his tail high. "Sorry." But the apology didn't sound exactly heartfelt. "Mzuza. I'll just call you Zuzu." He smiled at her, a smile of a cheeky, mischievious boy. It was a grin that held traces of enjoyment in it. He did like to tease others, though not so much that they'd want to beat him up. Yen Ha was afraid of physical contests though he quite liked the verbal fight.

Not that he liked fighting at all really.

He raised a scrawny paw and then the other in turn and glanced around him. "You have Pridelander fur." It wasn't a question or even a very important statement, it was just a fact that he liked to throw around. "Does that make you a good huntress?" He had never hunted in his life and never really intended to. What was the point when you had pride lionesses to hunt for you? His mother would be dissapointed with him, but it was the truth.

"Females are supposed to be."

"Pah, if your name didn't already sound so laughable, I'd have come up with something better." She said with mock disdain, though her eyes twinkled with the laughter she held back. So that was the way he did things. It was new, being around others that didn't constantly just want to play, play, and play even more. It was like coming up for a breath of fresh air.

"Yea... I have Pridelander fur." She replied. Well, that was obvious wasn't it? She glanced down at her copper and tan fur. She had never really thought of it as 'Pridelander fur' before, but it made sense enough that she wasn't going to dispute it.

She blinked. Did fur make her a good huntress? She thought quickly before replying. "Well, you have... weird... fur. Does that make you a good fighter, then?" It was much easier to turn the question around than answering. She really didn't know - was she a good huntress? She had practiced on little creatures before and had been successful enough, but she had yet to learn how to go after the big game. No, she wouldn't truly know for a while yet.

His mouth dropped with astonishment. The comment on his name had been so unexpected, so out of the blue! His face was a picture of unguarded shock. He noted the mischievious glint in her eyes. She was teasing him! Him! He stamped his little paw again and raised his head higher. He was really quite a sensitive soul, though he would try his best to hide it.

"Yen Ha is a good name." He muttered, sticking his tongue out at her. "So stop being jealous." Oh wow, what a come back. He mentally berated himself. Wasn't he supposed to be the smart one? Couldn't he think of some smart a** words to throw back at her? Apparently not.

"And my fur isn't weird. I have my father's fur. He's white as white can be. White is a good colour." Then, not realising she hadn't answered his own question, Yen Ha, being too eager to show off his own intelligence replied.

"No, white fur makes you an intelligent lion. White isn't a brute colour." He wrinkled his nose. "See, your fur is brown, it matches the grass and the dirt so you can chew on an antelope's throat." He nodded as if his theory had been proved correctly with that single phrase. "Besides girls are always better at hunting, mother told me so." Though what the males had to do scared Yen Ha. He couldn't protect anyone or anything, not with his weedy frame.

"Girls have to hunt for boys." He nodded, his eyes shining.

Mzuza almost laughed, shaking her head in her amusement. "Yes, yes, I'm jealous of your name." She agreed, rolling her eyes with a smile. That should end that then. She hadn't been looking for any sort of argument, and she was keen to keep the conversation away from any hard feelings.

"Okay... then what is a brute color?" She prompted. She had never really though of colors that way, of them being able to give lions a certain look or a certain label.

She wrinkled her nose along with him. "So girls are better at hunting, sure. And yea with the fur. But it's not like I hunted antelope before, so I wouldn't really know, now would I?" It wasn't like her to live on pride. She hardly ever felt the need to have to show anything off. It was always good enough for her to know herself what she was. Who cared what others knew or didn't?

"Well, boys have to protect girls." She shrugged and countered, gazing at him expectantly for any sort of reply.

"A brute colour is...well all sorts of colours. Usually big bright and bold. Black is an untrustworthy colour, see? They like to slink in shadows and stalk unsuspecting cubs. But brute colours and intimidating. Red is a brute colour." He nodded. For supposedly being smart Yen Ha sure was quick at throwing lions into their stereotypical boxes.

"See, you have brown-gold fur. It means your a down to earth sort." He nodded and gave her a look that dared her to even attempt disagreeing. "When you get bigger you'll be allowed to join the proper hunts. Then you'll find out and I can yell out; I told you so!" He laughed but the sound was cut off by her last words.

His ears drooped. "N-not all boys." He cleared his throat. "Only big, muscley boys. Boys like me have to think up good theories and tell everyone about them, see?" He was pretty sure he could never protect anyone.

"Anyway, what would you know? Girls grow up big and strong too, they could protect themselves if they weren't so lazy."

((Sorry it took so long. >.> I was so busy this week))

Mzuza smiled, amused. "Sure..." She took a seat and listened as he rattled off the color stereotypes. Some of them, perhaps, did make sense. The one with the brown pelt. That made sense, it was only natural. But somehow, though she could associate the colors to the words, she didn't see how simply being black could make a lion untrustworthy. "But I don't think just being red would make you a brute." She said with a small, contemplative frown.

"Huh, well, who's to say you're not going to be all big and muscley when you grow up? Then you'd have to protect everyone. Besides, what's wrong with helping to protect the pride? You get to protect the little cubs too, you know. That's kind of the whole point - you protect the adults and you protect the cubs so they can grow up and continue the pride." Plus, it couldn't be that hard. Even lionesses who didn't have Pridelander fur, or didn't run as fast, still got to join in with the hunts. She didn't see why lions that weren't quite as strong or muscley couldn't protect the pride as well.

"Well how do you suppose rogue lionesses do it? They protect themselves. But isn't a Pride supposed to be one of those win-win situations? It's set up like this so nobody has to do everything, right?"

(( s'okay hon <3 no worries ))

Yen Ha, though he thought himself wise, was simply throwing out his own theories. He loved coming up with them and though he was a little on the aint-social side he did love to watch others. He carefully and shrewdly observed their behaviour and matched it up to their fur patterning. Soon he came to the conclusion that he was right, though he'd probably be proved wrong at some point.

"Well I'll let you judge that for yourself when you come across a red lion." Yen Ha yawned and stretched, pretending he couldn't care less, though admittedly he was a little upset that his theories had been scattered so quickly.

At her reply he blinked and then looked down at his spindly little legs? "I say." He replied. "For one thing, I don't want to waste time hunting when others can do it for me. Hunting is female work. I won't have cubs so I won't have babies to protect and what other lion's cubs are up to is none of my business." He replied smugly. "I'm going to be an advisor of some sort when I grow up." He smirked.

(( omg how did Yen Ha turn into such a b*****d @_@ girls are so gonna kick his a**. ))
PostPosted: Mon Oct 29, 2007 3:53 am

She chose to stay silent in light of his comment. Maybe he was right for the most part, but she found it hard to believe that all lions of red color were brutish creatures. She could understand if they were somehow related to an ancient ancestor with a brutal temperament and a coat of scarlet, then it wouldn't be a surprise if such temper had been genetically transferred down the line. But there had to be some misfits out there that had come out brighter than the sun that weren't all kill-happy losers.

She countered with a returning smirk. "In an ideal world." She said. "But okay, say you do become an advisor. You're just not going to have cubs and not know any lionesses and not fall in love?" That was a strange thought for her. Yen Ha was definitely something else. She wasn't used to others that had anything but play on their minds.

"Maybe you'll change your mind someday," She said after a moment's thought, smiling.

(( I don't know what happens with this RP, I seem to keep losing it amongst all the others! *needs to do somethign to make the title stand out* xD ))

"I don't think I will." Yen Ha replied. He seemed confident with this and the air he spoke of was defiant, as if Mzuza's words were some sort of challenge. "Lionesses are just a pain and cubs...well they just..." Well Yen Ha couldn't really answer that one. He was pretty much still a cub himself and he certainly thought he had turned out well.

"Just no." He ended, flicking his tail as if that made everything okay. "Love makes the mind fuzzy, that's what I've gathered from watching overs. If I fall in love I'll be a terrible advisor."

Then, something clicked in Yen Ha, a deep urge to tussle with this female, to show her that he was right. He had played with his siblings when he had first opened his eyes and knew nothing of knowledge, but he had supressed the urge since wandering into the world. However, whether it was to defend his name, or release something hidden deep in his young heart, Yen Ha sprang, laughing in delight at the surprise he would cause.
