Hey! In honor of my new Ipod, I think I should totally get some new stuff on there. So I was hoping that some of you could give me some recommendations.
I'll start off by saying I like J-pop, and rock/ska type bands. My favorite artist is Utada Hikaru, with bands like 311, Sublime, Streetlight Manifesto, The Fratellis, and Reel Big Fish comming after that.
I don't like heavy metal stuff, or rap(unless its really good.)
I LOVE good voices. So if they can't sing well, I probably won't like it.

Edit 2/25/08:
I loveee Michael Buble(a lot.) and Christina Aguilera's newer album Back to Basics. If that helps. wink
Though telling me to go to listen to Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Harry Connick Jr., Michael Feinstein, ect won't help much, because they're already on my mp3 player : D

In the J-Pop section:
My favorite is Utada Hikaru by a long shot, but some of my other loves are Rurutia, Koda Kumi, and Kanako Hoshino.
I don't care much for Ayumi, sorry : (

So, anyone think they've got anything good for me?

Well, I'm not a big fan of J-Pop, so I can't help you there. I'm not sure if the songs I like are to your taste, but I'll give it a shot anyway.

Death Cab for Cutie
Jets to Brazil
Ted Leo & the Pharmacists

...And if you don't have The Beatles, I pity you! (Just kidding ._.)

Those are all Indie...

Well, as of now I'm listening to Go Big Casino. I forgot they were in my iPod (hand-me-down iPod from my brother).

I also love musicals, so I have a bunch of songs from different musicals.

If you don't like them, I don't blame you XD.

Don't worry, I love the Beatles.
I like a couple of Death Cab For Cutie songs, but not too many...

But I could try out some of the other ones you listed and see what I think.

And I loveloveloveloveLOVE musicals! smile

I don't even have anything from that.

As a reference to [.TwilightRain.]'s statement, get "The Internet is for Porn". It's blood brilliant. >o<

I'm not quite sure what rock/ska sounds like but I'll give it a shot, a long with some J-Pop.

If you love musicals, have you checked out the HAIR soundtrack? (Not to be confused with Hairspray, this is the one about hippies and the Vietnam war. It's got an excellent soundtrack, and you've probably heard the song "Age of Aquarius" before.)

If you like Ska... how about Sublime?

I also suggest Postal Service if you liked Death Cab for Cutie. (Same front man, before he joined DCfC.)

And, of course...
Pink Floyd and Bob Seger should always be tried.

I've neve heard anything from Hair, but I'll sure try it.

Yeah, I'm already a Sublime fan : )

And I've heard some Postal Service songs, and theres really only one I like. I don't really like Death Cab For Cutie too much anyway.

And Pink Floyd has been tried, and again, only like some songs. Just not a band I'm thrilled about.

I should add I loveee Michael Buble to this, but then I'd know what suggestions I'd get, which I probably already listen to. rofl

Try these songs:
Savin' Me by Nickelback
Far Away by Nickelback

Kind of romanctic kind of songs and that's the best of their songs that aren't metal. Sorry.

Thanks to another Gaia user, I've recently gotten hooked on The Aquabats. They're a peppy-fun sort of rock band and typically dress in a superhero-costume-style blue outfit with masks and a logo (fun stuff). A lot of their songs are pretty sarcastic, and others are just plain fun. My favorites of theirs so far are "Fashion Zombies (hilarious, especially if you watch the music video on Youtube)," "Cold Raw Gold, (Might be a little heavy for you, but I love the frantic pace of it)" and "Mucho Gusto (also funny)."

If you like J-pop and J-rock, you simply have to find some X-Japan songs. It was the first Japanese rock band music I'd ever heard, and it's still my favorite. They have everything from hard songs like "Kill You" (it's literally called either that or "I'll Kill You") to slower, heart-wrenching ballads like "Crucify My Love" and "Endless Rain."

I've always loved Matchbox Twenty's music, and Rob Thomas's voice is good, too.

Genesis is a fun 80s pop-ish, maybe slightly rock band (they were around in the 70s, too, but I haven't been exposed to much of hteir older stuff). You'll probably recognize the voice of the lead singer right away. It's Phil Colins (think the Disney Tarzan and Brother Bear soundtracks or the song "In the Air Tonight"). "Invisible Touch," "I Can't Dance" and "Mama" are three of my favorites. "Mama" is definitely creepy though. Not sure if you'd like that. The other two are fun.

Another great 80s musician is Meatloaf. His singing is just awesome, and his songs are a blast. "Bat out of Hell," "Cry Over Me," and "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights" are some of his classics and my favorites.

Thabnks! Yeah, my best friend really likes the aquabats! I never really listened to their stuff though, so I'll probably have to give them a try. rofl

Thanks, I'll have to try X-Japan. I've listened to a couple of J-Rock bands, and the only one I still like is The Pillows. : ) Hopefully this will be good!

I think i've heard quite a few genesis songs, i can't remember if i liked them or not though xD

Thanks for all the reccomendations!
