A hotel unlike any other around. This hotel houses some of the biggest names in the financial world and is home to many of the students who don't wish to return home. With the same decadence as the school, the hotel is designed to cater to the wealthy students every whim. No matter if they reside there for one night or a hundred, they are treated as if they are the most important person. So those in need of a place to stay... come to the Ouran Marriott and reserve a room. Just make certain your gold card can handle the price.

((This place is made for those students who need a place to stay. If someone wishes a day away from their rich homes, come by and get a hotel room. Is currently the home of Kaoru Hitachiin, so that way we don't have to explain Hikaru's absence. Come visit him... for he'd love the company.))

Kaoru walked through the door as the doorman held it open for him. He bowed his head once in thanks before making his way across the grand entrance hall and over to the elevator. He pulled out a key card and slipped it into the reader once he was inside, sending the lift on its merry way up to the top floor, and the penthouse suite he was in.

With a soft ding, the door slipped open and Kaoru walked out into the room. It was huge and reminded him a lot of the suit of rooms that he and his brother shared back when they had been together in the family home. Even now, as he moved over to the couch and sink into its soft cushions, he closed his eyes and recalled what had started them on their downward spiral.

~FLASHBACK~

Almost there… just had to get the last strap on him. Slowly. Careful. Hikaru winked at his brother as the pair knelt over the sleeping form of their lord, Tamaki, who lay like a mummy wrapped in black, leather linens. The brothers had alternated between eachother for each strap – Hikaru insisting that Kaoru be the first. And now he was finishing the knot on the very last strap… carefully, gently….

A phone rang suddenly. Everything happened at once, the lord sat up right, pulling the straps off as if they were tissue paper, eyes glowing red at Hikaru. The boy, himself, leapt in front of his younger twin – “Take me, Lord. Please… please take me!” He cried out as he thrashed around the bed, Kaoru’s cell phone ringing on the nightstand on his side.

Kaoru awoke at his brothers thrashing, shifting on the bed and turning to face him. Their parents had been trying to get them to sleep in separate rooms for the last week now. Those attempts had been thwarted every time, due to Hikaru coming into the room and moving to share the bed with him. Kaoru didn't mind it at all. He wanted his brother in the room. It was more soothing when they were in the same bed. Looking over at his brother, he leaned over him, shaking him gently. "Hikaru... wake up! You're having a nightmare," he called.

It took a minute for Hikaru to come awake and open his eyes. Another minute for him to see that the person shaking him wasn’t Tamaki (who’d been shaking/choking him a second ago) but rather… it was like looking into a far better dream. “Ah… Kaoru. I’m sorry, did I wake you?” He asked, gently pushing a few strand of hair from his brother’s face. Then the phone rang again. Hikaru blinked, eyebrows raising and turned his head toward the sound. He frowned – “If that’s mother or father again, calling to check that we’re in separate rooms…” He started, leaving the sentence for either his twin to finish out loud or mentally; either was fine with Hikaru. They were one in the same mind. The Hitachiin brothers to the end!

"Then we're going to be yelled at again," Kaoru finished for his brother, even as he reached over to pick up his phone, recognizing his mothers phone number on the caller ID. "And you didn't wake me. Mother did first," he replied, watching his older twin for a second before returning the affectionate caress. All the while, the phone continued to ring, Kaoru reluctant to answer it.

He sighed deeply, recognizing the distress in Kaoru’s face. His poor little Kaoru… Gently, Hikaru took the phone from his brother, looking at the ID for a moment himself, before flipping it open and put the receiver part to his ear. “Ya… Mom?” He said in a drowsy, bored tone – really, their parents were so dull. It could make him sick.

“No… Gah! Mom, stop yelling!” Wincing, Hikaru pulled the phone away from his ear a little as a tinny woman’s voice screeched over it. Ignoring the annoyance for a moment, the boy looked up at his brother and smiled.

“She thought it was you answering. Sounded relieved until she asked if I was still asleep. Took her to that to figure it out.” He rolled his eyes and put the phone back to his ear. “Eh?” Hikaru sat up suddenly, face changed from bored to severe. He listened a moment longer then looked at Kaoru. “Do you want to talk to her? She is asking for you now…”

Kaoru sighed, realizing that if their mother hadn't figured out that they were indeed sharing a bed, this had just been the last bit of proof she'd need. Knowing she wouldn't stand for him lying to her, he nodded and took the phone from him. "Yes mother," he said into the phone, listening to her yell and rant. "I know that, but we don't want seperate rooms." Again the yelling passed through the earpiece before Kaoru flinched slightly. "All right. I'll try it tomorrow. Night mother." With that finished, he hung up, a small frown slowly forming on his lips.

Hikaru saw his brother’s face falling and felt his own going with it. With a little growl, he took the phone from his twin’s limp hand and set it the nightstand on his side – wondering if his phone had rung first… his was still in the other room. His light brown eyes caught those of Kaoru’s, his gaze a little too harsh but it was because of the frustration and pressure, not Kaoru himself. “You shouldn’t let her bully you.” Or maybe Hikaru, himself, shouldn’t her bully the younger twin. Ah well, details could be decided later.

“What did she say to make you frown so?” He asked, cupping his hand over Kaoru’s cheek.

Kaoru couldn't help but glance away, his brown eyes not wanting to meet his brothers. "Tomorrow night, we sleep in seperate rooms. If we don't, mother's going to seperate us perminantly by sending one of us to Grandmothers place," he answered, his voice just barely above a whisper. Their grandmother lived on the other side of Japan. If they figured a bedroom apart was too hard, then the whole span of Japan would be impossible.

"I don't want us to have to part, Hikaru, but if we don't do something soon, we'll be living too far away from one another to do anything, let alone see one another."

There was a sudden flush in Hikaru’s face. He felt a white hot surge of anger and in a swift movement, he had flung the bed covers back and leapt out of the bed. “Who is she to decide something like that?” Didn’t she know… couldn’t she understand? Neither one of the twins could go a full nights sleep without the other. The comfort of knowing that even if dreams went bad, Kaoru would be there to save him, just as he had a moment ago. And the strength Hikaru felt, knowing he could save his younger twin… there simply were no words to describe.

He paused suddenly, turning to look at his brother who still knelt in the bed. “And what do you mean, ‘We sleep in separate rooms’? You aren’t … Kaoru. You aren’t going to let her win, are you?”

Kaoru closed his eyes, swallowing thickly in worry. "Hikaru, we have no other choice. Either we only get seperated the length of a room or it will become the length of Japan. I would rather have you near me that away from me," Kaoru answered, even as he sat back on his heels, watching his brother with a nervous expression on his lips. After all he didn't want to lose his brother. Not to a distance he could get to.

Hikaru softened for a moment, looking into his brother’s sad eyes. It was true, what Kaoru said; the distance from one room to another could be crossed… Japan could not. Reluctantly, Hikaru nodded, sitting down on the edge of the bed and reaching for his twin’s hand. “Tomorrow night, we sleep in separate rooms. Kaoru… how will we bare it?” Hikaru sighed, squeezing the other’s hand gently – as he saw, like a photograph, two tiny boys holding hands as they sat on a park bench, watching the other children; those who were ‘not us’; laugh and play in the snow.

Kaoru nodded, remaining there with his hand in his, even as he shifted a little closer to him. "We spend our last night together here, in this room. We'll worry about what to do when we're alone in our own rooms when the time comes. Perhaps... teddy bears would help, if we held them at night," he said, even as he didn't want this any more than he was certain his twin did. It would hurt to be seperated, but they would have to endure it.

~END FLASHBACK~

That had been the beginning of the end for the twins. Things had gone down hill. Now, Kaoru was in a hotel room, further seperated from his twin while Hikaru was at home, with their parents. Kaoru had been seen as the more responsible so they had set him up here at the Ouran Marriott Hotel. Kaoru endured it, but he wanted more than anything to see Hikaru again. He wanted to be with his brother.

Once more he picked up his cell phone and pulled up Hikaru's number. Once more he merely started at the numbers. What could he do? Without his brother breaking first and either calling or talking to him, he wouldn't be able to do anything. Closing the phone, he sat back, wondering if things would ever be corrected again.

((This was done with our new Hikaru's help, so that we could bring out the fight that broke them up and work on getting the twins back together.))

“K-Kaoru…” There was a note of longing in the tense voice of the young master Hitachiin, sitting with his back to the edge of the window frame, one leg dangling while the other propped his arms and head up so he could look out the window. He was still in pajama pants with his torso bare, despite the lateness of the morning – he’d been awake for sometime now, just sitting at his window, staring into oblivion. Reddish-brown hair fell over his eyes, giving his view of the world outside the window a red tint. Fitting really, for the anger he felt deep within his gut. The sweet name passed his lips once more, muffled against his arm.

Hikaru Hitachiin, the elder brother in a set of twin – the Hitachiin Brothers. Notorious bandits, troublemakers, little devil types… they were a pair of hula gains with almost angelic faces (it was only ‘almost’ because of Hunni’s cherubim-like appearance). And together they had helped in the making of an odd little club, The Ouran Highschool Host Club, with four other boys. Good times. Much better compared to life before the Host Club… and life now.

“Kaoru…” How hard was it to say he was sorry? Sorry for getting angry so easy, for forcing him out into the world outside their own? Hikaru had broken the padlock on their lives to force away… what? His better half? But they were each a separate entity, weren’t they? So he must have a better half within himself, surly? And yet… his eyes moved from the window to scan the large bedroom. Things torn. Things broken. Things tossed about willy-nilly. A mess. A shambles. Representation of his current life.

The life without Kaoru – his better half.

~~~
Several hours later, the same morose boy stood with hands shoved deep into his pockets and head tilted back to gaze up the side of the Ouran Marriott Hotel. His hair was still disheveled, as if he'd just got out of bed, and there was a tired air about his sagging shoulders. In the crook of one arm, there was a little package in the rough shape of a ball, though there were parts sticking out.
'"Get out!"'
Hikaru flinched as his own voice echoed in his head. He could only imagine what such a harsh tone had done to Kaoru. So that first step towards the hotel was hard, his foot felt as if it was made of lead, but once that was over the boy found himself making his way smoothly into the lobby of the hotel. Hikaru hoped to god that his mother had told the truth about where his twin was staying - he could almost see her popping out from behind one of the pillars to say she fooled him, ha!
Kaoru sat up as he heard the buzz of the phone. Picking it up, it was room service, asking if he'd like to have dinner sent up. Thinking over the hectic day he'd had and the brooding thoughts he'd had mere moments ago, he wasn't really hungry. He also knew that if he didn't eat, then he'd end up sick. Or even worse, in the hospital.
He agreed to have dinner brought and looked over at his cell phone. While he wanted to call him, he once more ignored the impulse.
Hikaru made his slow, deliberate way up to the front desk; head bowed beneath the folds of his hood, as if he were hiding from everyone. And in ways, he really was. Should any of the Host members be here, see him AND have heard the story… well, the boy wasn’t in any mood to get a chewing out. There was one thing; one thing, only, on his mind and he had to follow through with this.
Because if he didn’t break the long (3 day) silence – it would continue until he did.
Kaoru knew his twin, probably better than Hikaru knew himself. The better half. Always Calm. Always Cool. Always Collected. Of the pair, the younger twin had been the voice of reason and logic where he, Hikaru, had been the instigator; the blunt one who usual spoke first. But that was little nothings compared to his most important purpose… Hikaru protected Kaoru… his dear Kaoru.
The boy grimaced slightly in the shadow of the hood, teeth clenching almost painfully. Then he was at the desk, ringing the little bell for the attendant. Hikaru didn’t have to wait long… A portly man dressed in a sharp, fractionally too small, red suit came out from the back room; there was a slight frown on his thin lips. "Can I... help you?" Such a smug tone, the boy could have laughed. Tossing his head back to throw off the hood, the young master of the Hitachiin house revealed his face, wide brown eyes rolling slightly at the changed expression on the man’s face.
“Ah! Master… Hitachiin. I didn’t see…”
Hikaru leaned back on his left leg, tilting his head and smirking. It wasn't even worth what little energy he had left to explain that he was Kaoru's twin; that the Hitachiin boy this man knew was still up in the pent house - though Hikaru, himself, didn't know his brother was so close. “Don’t worry about it. Here…” He pulled the little bundle from under his arm and held it out to the attendant, who took the little package into his porky hands with the utmost care – as if it were made of glass which, for all he knew, it could be. “Make sure this gets up to Hitachiin Kaoru’s room immediately.” Hikaru shoved his hand back into his pocket.
“Yes yes! Very good, sir. In fact, Master Hitachiin, your meal has just come up from the kitchens. I’ll see to it personally that this goes up with it.” And quickly the man turned away and went back through the door behind the desk from whence he came. This left the young teen to wander back across the lobby until he stopped at one of the tall marble pillars and kicked it lightly with the toe of his shoe.
So – Kaoru was here.
And he was eating.
That was good, he thought. His brother was a little too skinny anyway; if he got much thinner, people would be able to tell than apart easy because he’d be standing next to a skeleton. Hikaru sighed, bowing his head and leaning forward until skull and marble met with a dull thud.
But then…
At least, they would have been matching skeletons.
Kaoru stood up and began to pace the floor, cell phone clutched in his hands. Why couldn't he call? It was just a simple process. He wanted to call him. Even if he hung up on him, or didn't even answer, then he'd hear his twins voice and be comforted by that small factor. Yet he couldn't bring himself to dial the number.
Soon, his tormented brooding was brought to a temporary stop as a knock sounded at the penthouse door. He moved to answer it. The bell hop who came in was the same who always tended to him. His eyes were a little wide as he stared at the younger Hitachiin. "Sir... you sure move quickly," he murmured, even as he moved to set the plates onto the dinner table that was already set for one. "Why, I could have sworn you was just downstairs when I headed up this way. Had the Manager all in a huff asking him to bring something up to yourself."
Kaoru perked up instantly, his brown eyes wide. "I... I did what? What did I want delivered?" he asked.
"Oh, just this," the bell boy said, handing over the package. Once he was done he bowed and accepted the tip the boy gave him, before turning and leaving. With shaking hands, Kaoru ripped open the wrapping and noticed a small teddy bear. It wasn't much, but it was the same color as their hair and reminded him very much of his brother. Without pausing, bear in hand, he raced for the elevator, waiting the precious minutes it took for it to come back up, and then took it down to the lobby, rushing out, hoping he'd see his brother... even in just a passing glance.
Hikaru had stayed in that position, with his forehead pressed to the pillar, mulling things over until he heard the chime of the elevator as it arrived on the main floor. Nervously, he turned his head, opening his eyes, to see who came off it. His shoulders relaxed; he started breathing again… it was only the bell-hop pushing his little food cart off as gently as he could. With a heavy sigh, the young man lifted his head, backing away from the white marble column, and watched as the door slid closed once more. And then, the numbers that indicated what floor the lift was on began to increase. Taking a slight interest, Hikau drifted toward the elevator with his head still tilted back and eyes narrowed as he watched each number illuminate as the lift passed each one…
“Ah! M-Master Kaoru…” It was the bell hop, a note of irritation and amazement shaking the man's voice. Level 8.
“Yes… what is it?” Pure irritation in Hikaru's own voice.
“I’m sorry, Sir. It’s just… Well, how did you…” The lit numbers had reached the teens and were still rising.
“Bungee jumping. You should try it sometime.” There was a tautness to his jaw that made the words almost hiss through his teeth and not once did he look away from the little, half circle dial of numbers on the wall above the lift doors. Hikaru heard the rustle of the cart and knew the man had taken the hint from his tone to shut up and go away. All the time, the numbers kept up their slow steady pattern of lighting up, going dark, staying dark, lighting up, going dark, staying dark, lighting up; it was torture.
Pent House.
Hikaru’s eyes widened when the two words flashed and his fists clenched more tightly in his pockets – he bowed his head, feeling a sort of flimsy, numbness in his legs. Kaoru was coming down. Slowly, the brown eyed boy walked over to the wall to the right of the elevator doors and turned to lean back against it as he had with the pillar. This was it, another 3 or so minutes and he would see his younger twin; Hikaru felt his pulse skipping as if it were playing hop-scotch, bouncing up into his throat than falling to somewhere around his stomach. Apology after apology ran through his mind as he tried to make sense of what he’d say when Kaoru stepped off the elevator… but, when the younger twin actually came running out from the sliding doors; Hikaru couldn’t remember a thing.
“K-Kaoru!” Was the only word he could remember as he reached for his brother.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 07, 2008 7:56 pm
"H... Hikaru," Kaoru whispered even as he closed his eyes and threw himself into his brothers arms. The instant feeling of oneness that washed over him when he felt his brother against him made him feel content in the first time since they parted ways. "Why... don't you come upstairs. We can talk up there," he murmured, reluctantly pulling back.
Brown eyes looked over his twin and saw the same thing that he was certain his twin saw. They were both a little less healthy from lack of eating for the last few days. He missed him so much and even though looking in a mirror would be like seeing his twin, it wasn't the same as the real thing standing in front of him. Even now, he didn't want him to leave. He'd try his hardest to keep him here, for as long as he could.
Months ago, their friend Kyouya had started publishing a series of magazines that centered around each member of the Host Club. Hikaru and Kaoru had shared on such magazine which bore the title, ‘Brotherly Love’. And even before that… girls that had come to be there customers had mentioned how enchanting it was to see such love between brothers; from their mirrored appearances, to the way the started and finished each other’s thoughts… and all the little caresses and nuances in their words to one another. They could see it. They could love it. They might even be able to appreciate it…
But they could never understand the depths and bonds that connected these two. That was something solely Hitachiin. Brothers around the globe might respect, care for and love one another; but for these twins, love was even too weak a word.
Hikaru felt himself really smile for the first time in days as he looked into the brown pools of Kaoru’s eyes, then slowly, he nodded. “And I can have you all to myself... Kaoru.” He stepped forward a little, closing the distance between them and lifted his brother’s hand to his own heart. It was as if nothing had happened between them; they were… ‘us’… again.
---
From the door frame behind the desk, the bell hop and the porky desk attendant exchanged a wide-eyed glance then looked back to the scene unfolding before them.
“I’m seeing double, Sir.” The bell hop whispered.
“Perhaps… we should lay off the saké when on duty, Eh?”
PostPosted: Thu Feb 07, 2008 8:56 pm
Kaoru flushed just the faintest bit at those words. It wasn't that he was perverted or was actually 'in love' with his twin like they portrayed at the host club, but there was something about his brother that tended to make his cheeks heat with color at the simplest of words. There was also something else. Kaoru wasn't certain how to word it, what to name it, or even if there was a word for the emotion he felt. He just liked being with his brother. He was the one person he felt the most comfortable with.
"I think I want you all to myself as well. We've... been apart for far too long in my book," Kaoru replied, even as he took his twins hand and lead him over to the elevator, the teddy bear still in his other hand. "Oh, thank you for this," he remarked, holding up the plush. "I'm glad you remembered." With a chime, the elevator arrived, the doors sliding open. With the ease he'd acquired in the last three days, he pulled his key card from his back pocket and slid it through the key card reader on the elevator.
Hikaru laughed softly, leaning back on his left leg and looking toward his brother as the lift doors slowly slid together. “Of course I remembered… I treasure every word that passes your lips.” With a quiet thud, the doors were fitted and the lift shook slightly as it began its long assent. Hikaru squeezed his brother’s hand – seeing that snowy day again from their kindergarten year – before he looked down, turning his head away slightly.
“You haven’t been eating enough.”
He started quietly, then he chanced another look at his brother, relaxing slightly. Hikaru couldn’t help another smile – just the mere sight of his brother exhilarated him passed all weakness or pain; it was Kaoru that made him strong. “What say we enjoy that little feast you just had brought up and then…then…” His throat caught and the smile failed. Turning away, Hikaru released his twin’s hand and covered his face to hid the shame in his eyes. Thoughts of their first fight.
Their first REAL fight.
For once, Kaoru was grateful for the large amount of food his parents made sure was sent up every evening. With a small nod, he looked at his brother. "Yes, there is much we have to talk about, Hikaru," he said in a low, soft tone.
The fight had originally been planned to be a fake fight, in order to make their parents relax on their need to seperate them. Yet, it hadn't worked out correctly. The fight had escolated into an actual, real, honest to god fight between the twins and had ended with Hikaru's hateful words.
'Get out!'
Kaoru had got out, at their parents urging and Hikaru's threat of running away. After all, Kaoru was the more serious one, the responsible one. Too bad he hadn't thought about all that when they had first began their little plan. "Come on, I've always got plenty of food."
The tone in Kaoru’s voice held no blame or anger against his rash elder twin. It was the same calm, reassuring tone that he always used with Hikaru and it made the elder boy relax as the elevator came to the pent house floor with its usual chime. He looked up, letting his hands down to his sides and smiled at Kaoru, motioning him off the lift first then moved in to follow close behind.
“Mom has it sent up doesn’t she?” Hikaru asked quietly as he stepped into the room behind his brother. It was about the size of the bedroom back home with an impressive view of Ouran through the large living room windows. But unlike the room at the mansion where Hikaru had spent the last three days; this room was still rather orderly… it even had a stale-ish air as though Kaoru had not used it much since he’d been here.
Then there was the food. Hikaru glanced over at his twin then smiled. “Shall we?”
((Sorry to interrupt, you guys, but we're having a Valentines Day event! More info in a thread in the main forum.
Um... so, like, I figure Kaoru's fine to post, but Mortality.... Should probably have an avatar that looks more like Hikaru. I'm not sure, do what you think is right, but we need hosts in there.))
Kaoru couldn't help but smile softly at his brother. "Yes, she made certain that I had no choice other than what was sent up." Kaoru watched his brother for a moment before moving to take a seat at the table, across from his brother. "I'm just really glad that you're here. I've missed you. I wanted to talk to you a lot the whole time we were seperated, but I figured you were still mad at me. So I just never said anything."
Kaoru turned his eyes on his brother, never looking away from him. He just could look away. It was important to him to take in every little thing of his brother, just in case he decided he didn't want to forgive him and once more separated from his side.
