I'm still kind of here -- not that anyone cares. I saw HistoryWak's arena post, and it sucks that he didn't get top 10. Props to a great design, though.
Well, by last Saturday I completed Halo 3 and Metroid Prime 3, and here are my thoughts...
Halo 3: Not been able to play multiplayer yet, but the controls work. I'd say there are three general designs for good controls, and Halo 3 hit one (the others being PC and MP3). The campaign seemed short, but seeing as Halo can't really have things like boss battles or completion bonuses, I'm not bothered by it. Normal was pretty easy, but I can imagine that Legendary would be a nice challenge even with 4 people -- trying soon biggrin . The ending was the best ending, and moreso the ONLY possible ending, and unless you skipped the credits, you should agree.
Metroid Prim 3: MP2 was a great game, but it didn't have a certain spark that made it a true heir to MP1. This game had it. I loved the controls. It worked not only for a FPAdventure, but would probably make a great general design for all FPSs. Metroid is partially about items as well, so the controls dealt into this stuff, but the overall ingenuity was very good. Story-wise it was sad, but very good. The ending seemed a little easy for the final bosses and such, but I can see where a lot og gamers might be freaked out and die just out of fear of dying. It just added a new type of way to end a game, and it did work.
I just had tyo give my update on the world of games with major props to Nintendo and Bungie.

One minor gripe: I wish people would stop saying that MP3's controls would "work well" for FPSs. They wouldn't. No strafing and a lock-on feature? They work brilliantly for MP3, but I wouldn't want to play any FPS that had those shortcomings.

Secondly, the lock on isn't so much a lock on as it is providing circle strafing, where you can aim anywhere on the locked target.

All I'm saying is that I don't think it's possible for a traditional FPS like Halo to work with MP3 controls. It's a far-too-restrictive set up for any traditional FPS.

Well if you want to go traditional, we're a long way from Goldeneye, and even then I think that Doom pretty much has the "traditional" feel. As for lack of dual analog, the aim works fine, and has SOOOOOMME similarity to a mouse. Maybe not exactly the same as dual analog or a mouse, but ir works quite intuitively, and so long as the game was developed with this right-side-aim design, the ability would work great. I do note that keeping the development in mind is important. Serenata was always saying that Resistance needed a keyboard/mouse for the twitch, as the game was pretty much a melee as it was. A Wii shooter could add some nunchuk controls for melee attacks or use the Z-button for sniper zooms. Not what everyone is used to, but if nothing more, there is plenty of potential to make Wii a shooter system.

I don't know, maybe the MP3 control sheme could work well for an FPS. I'll wait and see if it happens.
