I see lots of dress', black with white lace, or ruffle. But to me they often look very maid like. Does anyone else feel this way? I'm making a black jumperskirt, cause i only have enough black material but before I start anything I'd like know your opinions with blackxWhite : < I know I can make an all black JSK but I cant get my hands on any black lace ... or can i...
pictures please?

I think it really depends on how the white trim is used. I prefer black and white loli clothing, I've made a black with white jsk this is the reference pic and it doesn't look maid like at all.

I love black and white together, personally. It's so classy, and that fits well with Lolita. The maid thing depends a lot on style and, as Naps pointed out, use of trim/lace.
In fact, I rarely wear colors other than red, black, and white in daily life.

I like sailor-style, so my favorite colors combinations are blackxwhite and navyxwhite generally. <_<;
Depends on the quality of the lace, the cut of the garments involved, and the accessories worn. I mean, if you have an apron on over your whole outfit and a headdress rather than an alice bow and solid jumper or op, yeah. You're going to be rather maidish.

I usually wear black, white, but then sometimes i wear very bright colours : )

I've always found that large amounts of black with stark white trim looks rather strange, but that more evenly balanced-- say, white blouse, black JSK, white stockings-- can look rally good. But that's just me and my odd aesthetic. sweatdrop

I somethimes feel the same way, it can go horrably wrong if the white is too bright in my opinion. Use a suttle white fabric, mabey a bit off white.

It really just depends on the style of the dress and what you wear with it. If you don't want to look "French Maid-ish" then step away from items of clothing like aprons and maid-like headpieces.

Yeah, I think it depends on the style as well. BABY's Blackxwhite dresses usually looks pretty good, I think.

Actually I kind of agree with you except for some rare circumstances. The whole black/white does seem a little maid-ish to me.
Also I generally try to stay away from it because its soooooo over done sometimes, so many Lolita, especially beginning Roris seem to think that black and white are the ONLY combination, so I really prefer to use and see other colors.
Just my opinion though 3nodding

@ Fiara Do you have a an example of the off white trim on black?
Yes, And it especially looks cosplayish if it has the lace up in the front. But i personally like the look on anything and it makes me sad cause I dont know an alternative for the front : [

I really like black and white because it looks so clean and I just like the way it looks. I also like all black and alot of plaids as well though. There are times when Black and white can look maid ish but as long as you don't stick and apron with it ever you should be fine.
lol the title of this made me remember that my friend got a really aweful black and white dress from Bodyline, it looks good on no one. I have no idea why she ever thought it would look good but *shrug* There are instances where black and white are bad but generally I think it looks good.

The only real way I ever wear Gusso stuff is when I mix an all black jsk with a white blouse because the dresses sometimes tend to look really maid-ish when its all on one article of clothing. A good example of a brand line that combines the colors well is Baby: Ex. 1Ex. 2Ex. 3And there's many more but you can just look at them yourself off of their site.

BABY and IW have really cute bxw combos... but neither brand is 'gothic', ya?
Maid-ish bxw combos tend to be seen a LOT on noobs and cosplayers, but there's a lot of really nice black and white outfits out there.

Le Black Lace It really just depends on the style of the dress and what you wear with it. If you don't want to look "French Maid-ish" then step away from items of clothing like aprons and maid-like headpieces. That's the reason why I don't dress in gothic style. I always feel maidish. This sometimes go for sweet lolita. I can't wear all pinks even though I think it's cute. Maybe it's because I'm a little older and I'd feel a little weird. I usually stick to classic, casual, or punk lolita
