okay.. xana wants everyone dead and seems to be really ticked off most of the time right?
in class today i learned a new word, xenophobia.
xenophobia means a fear of foreign things.
"things" includes humans.
the conclusion i am drawing is that the name xana came from xenophobia.

Eh... that's a strectch. Here's what I have.
Code Lyoko's original concept was derived from a three minute animated pilot called "Garage Kids" (don't ask). It had Ulrich, Odd, Yumi, Jeremy (no Aelita insterestingly enough), and it also had the factory, scanners, and the virtual world. However, this virtual world was called "Xanadu", after the legendary utopian society. So, when they made Code Lyoko, and changed the name of the virtual world, they derived the name of the antagonist from Xanadu, resulting in Xana.
Furthermore, there is of course my theory, as stated in Code ANGEL.
X enocidal Adaptable N etwork A I
Xenocidal is derived as a conjugation of the prefix Xeno, and the word genocide, which is self explanatory. Since humans are foregin to Xana, this thus resulted in his desire to destory them.

...I always thought he was like that because of one of those the-creation-got-smarter-than-the-creator situations. Xana developed actual brain power and with it a superiority complex. I like your abbreviation, Zaber.

The theory I have is that Hopper originally created Xana to be this intelligent... but to be good. But, as shown in Code ANGEL, Xana was infected with a virus that made it evil. While I know that wouldn't really work in programming things, but...
"often... random segments of code... can join together to form... unexpected protocools. These radicals engender questions of thought... imgaination... free will... what we might call, a soul."
- rough quotation from the film "I-Robot".

I was thinking of XANA as of more a Dorothy from Galerians: Rion just without the ability to create superhumans.

Sort of a cop-out answer, but...
Remember when Jeremie made the clone of himself and it got an ego? Jeremie said it was an emergent quality.
And the William clone's poor understanding of phrases? Another emergent quality.
The William clone (my forum nicknamed him Muffin II but I forgot why) had his AI made from scraps of data used to create XANA.
So what if XANA had an emergent quality... that made him want to create monsters and send them after people?

I dont think even the developers of the show put that much thought into it.
Xanadu means pleasure, because Xanadu was suposed to be a pleasure-filled utopia.
XANA was a name taken from Xanadu, not for the meaning but because Xana was a cool name.
Xenophobia IS the fear of foreign things. In latin, xeno- means foreign and of couse phobia means irrational fear.
just so you all know, xanadu is not latin, so the translation correlation cannot be made.
