well, it's really hard to change what the general public has assumed what emo is. honestly, emo is not being depressed or being sad. That ideology of emo-ness made the scene to be the most discriminated youth sub-culture of today. okey, first of all, this is not to bash the emo kids out there. this is meant to be helpful.

here is the thing, emo is short for emotive hardcore or emotional hardcore, not just "emotional". if you come to realize, almost all songs that are written has an emotions on it. emo is a subgenre of Hardcore which is meant to be emotive yet chaotic. It didnt came from punk after all.

the word "emo" was BASTARDIZED by MTV and magazines to label music popularized by the following bands: MCR, TBS, The Used, Chiodos, Dashboard Confessional etch.
MTV and those magazines are so perfectionists that they didnt research the meaning of the emo.

the revelation: MCR, The Used, Chiodos and all that is seen in MTV is not emo. I say that those bands are good and catchy. but hey, they're not emo. dont claim them emo, for Love's sake. I LOVE listening to those bands and I used to cover their songs, I really wish that people wont label them wrong. coz It's like claiming a flower to be a bee.

the real emo bands or the original emo bands are: Indian Summer, Pg. 99, Cities of caterpillar, Envy and a lot more.

phew. it's hard to explain in brief. I made it brief for the people out there who are lazy to read. but anyway, free to ask me anything about it.

hahah, hell yeah! i cant help but laugh at it. well, because of false assumtions the emo scene become something that I dont like. I really HATE the eletists who doesnt wanna share or bothered to explain what emo really is. now the scene turned gay. I also hate the try hard eletists claiming circa survive is emo.

You still haven't said why they are discriminated against.

1. Hardcore kids wants to educate emo kids about the real "emo" but emo kids wont listen so they resort to bashing.
2. Ignorant people hated the emo scene because they thought MCR is emo.
3. And all the assumptions that leads to destruction.

It shouldnt have been a trend. It's just a music subculture until the mainstream got in the way. A trend is just superficial. And like I said, emo is not just lonelines, Sadness, depression and all the things related to emo this days. so if you hate emo because you think it's a trend, then you only knew the surface and know nothing whatsoever about emo.
