out of hundreds of HIM fans i've come across, only a fraction of them have actually agreed that since love metal, the music has taken a serious dive. love metal seemed to be the last good album as far as i'm concerned. dark light was a flop, and at least venus doom seems to be better, but it's just not...HIM. after 10 years of absolutely glorious music, ville decided to take alcoholism to the next level, get bloated, and shut off on music. (although i'm happy to see him having gone through rehab.) this isn't a bash to the fans or even the band, cause i love them dearly, but i just wanted to throw it out. heart

I'm not sure. Although it will always be a tie between Love Metal and Razorblade Romance for my favorite album, I'm actually a huge fan of Dark Light. Maybe it's just me personally, because that was the album that orginally got me into HIM. *shrugs* By the way, I'm not a poser. I'm just young. XD But anyways, in my personal opinion, Venus Doom was a bit of a let down. It's good, but it's not AMAZING. And I agree with you on the aspect that's it's just...well, not HIM. =/

Yeah, I definately agree with you there. Love Metal was a fantastic album. Then we had what? Dark Light, that album was complete and utter bollocks. Sure, there was the Uneasy Listening CDs, but those tracks are available on the internet or the Singles Collection. I must admit, I haven't bought Venus Doom yet, or even heard any of the new songs, so hopefully it'll be some improvement on the last.

I personally hate Dark Light. With a passion. I love all their old albums, but I think Venus Doom was very very good. Almost like they've taken the metal element to the next level. Maybe it's just me, but I like them even more now. And anyways, you can't expect them to always write the same stuff. Then we'd probably get bored and say it should be different. The grass is always greener on the other side.

I love Darklight, with a passion. I love Venus Doom I think It's one of the best albums out. All their albums are different. I don't think they've gone downhill at all. Considering I'm pretty sure they are selling more albums than ever before..
Complaining is going to make it change. :/ So yeah shuddup. xD

i disagree i think all of HIM's music is great. Love Metal was a Fantastic album. but everythings gunna look bad in comparison with that. i mean thats like comparing blink 182's work with their last CD of course its going to look worse then the original but its still really amazing music. the same is true for HIM.

Nothing stays the same. No matter how much you want it to. If HIM were to just put out Love Metal 5 times under a different name, how do you think that would feel to their creativity? They're musicians. Not just a bunch of guys rocking out a tune. They'd be miserable & feel like they were selling themselves sort. But you're right. They probably have gone down hill a litte. They're not pure anymore. Once a band has success, they can never get back the state of mind they had before hand. It's sad, but there's nothing you can do about it.

Personally Dark Light didn't do it for me and while Venus Doom was a bit of a dissapoint (they said it would be the darkest yet, not quite) it still had some really good songs. I love Bleed Well. As far as the older music goes, true it does sound better and the lyrics seem to have a bit more depth, but I'll always love HIM for introducing me to a new type of music and reality.

Dark Light was a step down most definatly from their previous work. I've only heard a song or two from Venus Doom and those songs were a lot more guitar driven than any of their older stuff, though I can't tell anything really about the cd in general.

HIM is definitely in a downward spiral, except that i believe it began with This is Only the Beggining. Or in other words, when mikko stopped helping VV write songs.
Case in point: best two HIM songs are Serpent Ride, and Our Diabolikal Rapture, which were written by both Mikko and VV, and after that point every album was progressively worse.

Well, that's a really specific thing to try to argue.
Anyway. As freakin' lame as this sounds, I didnt like Dark Light either...but for a selfish reason. I felt like Dark Light was too public. To me, it went from interesting to cheesy. I felt the music just couldn't reach me, y'know? ;P

I dont know what to say. i dont think the any of their songs or albums where let-downs just different. and yall have to put all kinds of things into aspect like HIM is a finnish band and now theyve been somewhat americanized by the fact theyve been here for 10 years. and that they have aspects in their life that effects their music. so unless they lie under a rock and dont listen to anything but their own music they will never stay the same. and i think the reason so many ppl disliked dark light was because it was broadcasted so much. (i personaly hate when ppl go i love the band but never heard any songs of theirs besides wings of a butterfly)
