My town and my farm land is getting COVERED in big boulders and tree stumps. I was told the only way to get rid of these are with and upgraded tool. Is that true?
And to upgrade a tool you need to get ore. And to get ore you need to dig it up in a mine, not the digsite. And you need to unlock the mine.
So my question is how do you unlock/get the mine?

HMDS, I'm presuming, since you're talking about unlocking the mines?
Equip the hammer, and go to the dig site after 8 (9?) PM. There will be a short scene where you open the mine. After you get to the bottom, repeat the process. There's a total of 4 mines to unlock.

Is there a specific day of the week or weather needed to trigger it? I got it in my first game, but that one glitched and now I can't get the event to trigger for the mine.

As far as I know, the dig site just has to be empty. Weather doesn't have anything to do with it, and all days are (should be) good (except festivals, obviously). So late at night, or first thing in the morning (maybe), if you have the teleport stone.
Also, make sure your hammer is equipped. It will not trigger if it isn't. To unlock the 2nd, you have to have defeated the creature at the bottom of the first, beat the 2nd to unlock the 3rd, etc. The first is your only freebie. mrgreen

Thanks. I had the hammer equipped. It might be that I also had an accessorie equipped because once I removed it the event triggered.
