Do we even have a TTC thread for those of us wanna-be-mommies? Personally, I'd like some input from other mommies who know what they did and didn't do during the pre-baby time. There's noone better to teach me what not to do or what to do before I get pregnant, so that when the time comes I'm ready for it... or as ready as I can be.

I dunno what TTC stands for, but if you wanna start up a thread, you're more than welcome to ^_^.

I'm sure you'd get LOTS of input on that subject.

Loki....
TTC = Trying to Concieve.

Kyoki, you might want to change the topic title, because if we get women who are trying to concieve but are new to parenting forums they too might not know the acronym.

Aaaaahhhhh... thanks ^_^

Well, on the subject, both my pregnancies were suprise ones, so I didn't really *do* anything to prepare. I am generally a healthy person as is my hubby. I eat pretty well and such and am not a drinker, so I didn't really have to alter/change anything much around conception time.

Some good advice I have heard/read though, is to NOT stress or pressure yourself to concieve. That'll only make it more difficult and more depressing everytime you don't concieve. Try and relax about it. See if you can't time your ovulation, so you know when the best times to have sex are (when you're most fertile).

Do some research online regarding the "Billings method" - this is a contraceptive method involving an intimate knowledge of a womans fertility cycle- but it's also very useful for knowing when you are most likely to fall pregnant!
Plenty of research has been done on the subject and it is used often by Family Planning centers. Some people adapt to it so well they can even have a pretty good handle on the sex of their children- I know a woman who has five children, and she planned the sex of each!

I'm after information about things like-... you know, what to expect. We've had "scares" before, unexpected stuff, but this time we'd love to plan a little better.

You'd be suprised how many pregnancies are planned and its not a lot. I wish I planned mine but such is life. I'm happy none the less whee heart

The docs always say to pump yourself up with Folic Acid 3nodding it all comes in tablet form but Baked Beans are also practically made of it (if youre on the UK or if you can stomach the stuff xp ). Its good to take before and after conception for a healthy baby. Thats one tip from me. Hope that helped whee

Good luck!

As we say in our house, Orophin, Thanks Captain Obvious! xd

I'd say just really enjoy the process of doing it, be careful not to become more the tracking and paperwork that some women do to get pregnant! There's several methods but a lot of them are crackpot ones out there!!

So, although my son was unplanned, enjoy yourself! blaugh

I think that it is a bit more complicated than that for some. Sure there are several people who happen to have "surprises." However, several couples do have trouble.

There are factors that can help:
1. Positions do help, but the main thing is to allow for time for the sperm to make a little distance before you get up.
2. Know your cycle. Ovulation usually occurs around day 14. There is usually a 5 day window that is your most fertile time. Look up natural family planning. It kind of takes the fun out of it, but it is good to know.
3. Take Orophin's advice. Having sex about every three days gets rid of the older sperm. During your fertile time, once a day is good. From what I've seen more than that doesn't give any more benifit.
4. Eat healthy. Having a reasonably balanced chemical environment helps bio-processes.
5. Get lots of exercise. You body is designed to perform at its peak condition. The further you are away from that, the harder it is for you body to carry on normal activities and processes.

Anyway, hope this helps.

Sorry Orophin. I didn't mean to jump down your throat. You're a great guy.

Oro: XD Thanks for the advice. I'll take that, for sure.

Tetravus: It's not easy to know my fertile time because I'm not regular. Thats why I was hoping someone would have some advice- I don't ovulate on a regular basis. It runs in my family and noone else had trouble, so I'm not -too- worried, but I am still a little... nervous. ^^;

(Coming out of lurking. I'm Tet's wife, btw.)

KM, natural family planning (NFP) actually doesn't rely on the 14 day rule. You don't have to have a regular cycle to use it. It does require alot of work though. You have to take your temperature at the same time every morning, first thing when you wake up, and you have to watch your mucus secretions. Lots of fun!

ok it's not a given but have a drink (alcohol) before having a try ... my fiance and I managed to get pregnant after months of trying the only thing I can say that differed was that we had each had a pint of beer that night ?!?! I really don't know what else to suggest ... OH FOLIC ACID !!!

We don't drink, but I've heard that alcohol actually diminishes sperm count and stuff... is that really safe?

Thats with the basal thermometer, right? I have to look into that.

Has anyone bothered with those ovulator things they sell? Are they worth it?
