http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/I like Halo 3 and all (the music in the trailer is amazing), but for those who love storyline, thinking, humor, clever scripting, and (sometimes) gorgeous art, try Adventure Game Studio games!!
These games are handcrafted (more like hand-written, composed, and drawn) by some of the most talented home-brew game makers I have ever seen. Ever hear of Trilby, the cat burgler? Nick Bounty ring a bell? At least you know Ben Jordan, paranormal investigator? Or Mortia the ghoul and Spooks the goldfish?
If not, then I seriously recommend you check these games out.
Recommendations (these are addictive and super-cool!!):

http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/games.htm (5 Days a Stranger, 7 Days a Skeptic, Trilby's Notes, 6 Days a Sacrifice - play them in this order) These games are seriously creepy and have an amazing plot!!
Trilby is a cat burgler who breaks into the Defoe mansion, only to be entangled in a supernatural, macabre fate.
- http://www.herculeaneffort.com/ (Apprentice 1, 2) These are... AMAZING!!!! Every aspect of the game is superb - the graphics, voice acting, music, story, humor, everything!!! These are truly... herculean efforts! Join Pib, an apprentice sorceror, in a (semi) dangerous world of medieval fantasy!

http://www.gregames.net/games/jessica/overview/index.php (Jessica Plunkenstein and the Dusseldorf Conspiracy) Join Jessica in a hilarious adventure on a quest to reluctantly save Broadway! I absolutely adore the voice acting in this game, even the dreadful graphics (intended) are cute too!

http://new.bigbluecup.com/games.php?action=detail&id=688 (Spooks) A little ghoul named Mortia wins a little goldfish named Spooks at the Carnageval in the Underworld one day. Join this sharp-tongued ghoul in a witty adventure to find out what it really means to be "alive".

http://new.bigbluecup.com/games.php?action=detail&id=860 (Nelly Cootalot: Spoonbeaks Ahoy!) This game is UBER cute!!! With adorable graphics, hilarious dialogue, and most of all, pirates, this game is up in the tops of the AGS games! I recommend this to all pirate lovers.

http://www.grundislavgames.com/benjordan/ (Ben Jordan Cases) These games have hit it big with the AGS community, and I'm sure they will with you, too! Ben Jordan, a poor college student with a passion for the paranormal, embarks on perilous cases investigating strange happenings. Experience different countries like Japan, Greece, and Britain, all wonderfully formed. Humorous scenes and wonderful incorporation of mythology and the paranormal, Ben Jordan cases are a great try for AGS-gamers.

http://www.pinheadgames.com/ (Nick Bounty cases, Brain Hotel) These are about the funniest scripted games I've ever played!! Voice acting is great, and the storyline (especially for Goat in the Grey Fedora) is superb!
Oh man, there's so many more!!! Here's a list so you can find them on the AGS website:
- Duty and Beyond (A pizza delivery and time travel!?)
- Cedric and the Revolution (An adorable story with elves and (helpful) demons in bathtubs!)
- Tale of Two Kingdoms (Difficult but well worth the quality!)
- Emily Enough: Imprisoned (Very, very creepy stuff! But stil, great!)
- Da New Guys (Too funny!! A game about wrestlers - no wrestling involved!)
- King's Quest Remakes (A classic adventure game... very difficult but amazing!)
Goodness, there are so many amazing ones, I can't possibly list them in one sitting!!
I hope at least someone will try these games, as they are works of fabulous effort!!
